C16 Anger Makes People Distort
"Dad, the professor praised me today."
Zhaoran eagerly showed his father his paper with a proud smile. "Look, this is my analysis of the development of herbal medicine, the entire market, and how to change people's skepticism toward it."
Zhengxin's family business was a pharmaceutical company, primarily focused on modern medicine. However, with the recent growth in herbal remedies, they were considering expanding in that direction. Seeing his son's accomplishments naturally made him happy.
"Not bad."
"Yeah, I've been taking finance management as an elective, and the professor thinks I have a knack for it."
"That's my son."
Xia Lan's previously gloomy mood lifted, a hint of pride in her eyes. She thought to herself that even if Nuange married into the Qin family without the Yu family's support, it wouldn't matter.
Nuange stayed silent, observing how the family's attention was entirely on Zhaoran. A smile slowly spread across her face.
The Yu family, huh?
She doubted Xia Lan and her sons would just watch her marry Baihe and overshadow them. So, she made sure to occasionally make her presence felt, watching their every move. Finally, she noticed something that confirmed her suspicions.
"What are you thinking about?"
In the spacious living room of the villa, with its light-colored fabric sofa and soft wool carpet underfoot, Nuange sat comfortably, savoring the rich aroma of her tea, her eyes contentedly closed.
As she pondered, she heard the man across from her speak.
Today, Qin Baihe was dressed in a light cotton T-shirt and linen-colored casual pants, his hair softly tousled on his head, giving him a gentle and harmless appearance.
"Nothing much, just wondering what my dear stepmother is planning," Nuange said without hesitation.
"And what do you think?"
"Simple, ruin my reputation."
"The best way would be before our wedding, then sell me out and spread the news. By then... even if you don't mind, the rest of the Qin family won't let me in the door." She laughed sardonically, licking her lips and narrowing her eyes. Her red lips looked particularly alluring, exuding an air of mischief and charm, a stark contrast to the previously feigned innocence.
Sly and captivating.
Outside, Assistant Liang furrowed his brow.
"Your people don't trust me."
"Really? They always see me as fragile."
"That's true."
Nuange chuckled, squinting at the man outside. Handsome and charismatic, he exuded a noble and stern aura.
"So, what are you going to do?"
"Fight fire with fire. I'm usually very polite."
"Heh."
The man chuckled softly, without mockery or affirmation, as if it were just casual conversation. This attitude made Nuange narrow her eyes, realizing he was still holding back a bit.
“Is your family involved in herbal medicine?”
“Yeah.”
“Have you ever thought about branching into the cosmetics industry to expand your cultivation?”
“Miss Yu seems quite interested.”
“I’m really interested in cultivation.”
A fleeting nostalgia passed through Nuange’s eyes, and her smile grew warmer, as if she glimpsed something deeply cherished. Yet, this emotion vanished quickly, too swiftly for anyone to notice.
Qin Baihe didn’t say a word, just ‘looked’ at her with those dark eyes.
