C3 Enraged 1
"How's it going?"
"Uh... okay."
Yu Nuange flashed a shy smile, which made her stepmother, Xia Lan, incredibly excited. That guy was quite the charmer, with his only redeeming quality being his knack for sweet-talking girls. He often left them so dizzy with his words that they couldn't tell north from south and followed him blindly. Even someone like Xia Lan, who had seen it all, found his flattery hard to resist.
For someone as inexperienced as Nuange, he would be a breeze.
"Since that's the case, shouldn't we discuss the wedding?" Xia Lan smiled warmly, but beneath her still-attractive face lay deep malice.
"Shouldn't we spend some time together first? After all, this is our first meeting."
"If you think he's a catch, you should hold on tight. You both seem interested. But since you feel that way, I won't push you. Take your time, and I'll let your dad know. This is good news."
Xia Lan happily walked over to the man sitting on the couch, whispered a few words in his ear, and then glanced back at Yu Nuange.
"What are you standing there for? Come over here."
The man, in his forties, exuded the wisdom typical of someone his age and was considered a successful person. However, he wasn't a good father or husband—at least not to his ex-wife. He was quite decent to his gentle and virtuous current wife.
Nuange internally mocked the situation, but outwardly she maintained a sweet demeanor.
“Dad.”
“Your stepmom said you were pleased with this blind date?”
“Yeah.”
Could she change it if she wasn’t pleased? Definitely not. Seeing her stepmom’s face full of wrinkles from smiling, it was clear what kind of match had been arranged. Someone from a nouveau riche family with no real background, and even with a disability—how good could it be?
Being pleased would be the real issue.
She couldn’t understand what had blinded her father to believe everything Xia Lan said without considering his daughter’s feelings. Of course, the current Nuange wouldn’t oppose it, given that the previous Nuange had objected many times without success.
“Well, if you’re satisfied, then get to know him better. If it works out, you can go ahead and get engaged.”
“But...”
“What’s the problem? You’re old enough that your stepmom has to introduce you to someone, and now she’s even helping plan your wedding. What’s there to be dissatisfied with?”
Nuange pressed her lips together and said nothing, just nodded to show she understood.
“Hmph, the older you get, the more unreasonable you become!”
Yu Zhengxin was clearly displeased with her attitude, letting out a cold snort.
“Oh honey, Nuange is still young and beautiful. It’s normal for her to want to meet more people. Besides, while I can vouch for his character, they’ve just met and need time to get to know each other, right? Don’t be upset.”
"Nuange, your dad's just worried about you. Why not apologize? We're family, after all. There's no room for grudges, right?"
If you didn't listen closely, you might actually think he was concerned. But those words only made Yu Zhengxin angrier.
"What's there to be upset about? She's grown, yet all she does is argue with me!"
"Dad, what's going on?"
A cheerful voice cut through the brewing tension in the living room.
"Oh, Qianqian's back. See, the kids are home, so there's no need to stay mad. Nuange, go to your room. It's fine," Xia Lan quickly said as her daughter returned.
Nuange glanced indifferently and headed upstairs.
"You!"
