C4 Single & Sassy

Kayla’s POV

It was a good morning, the streets of Manhattan pulsated with life, teeming with a diverse array of people from all walks of life. I drove vibrantly with such zest and enthusiasm that one might mistake me for a professional race car driver. I couldn't help but chuckle to myself as I realized how much my driver must be enjoying his role. I mean, technically I hired him, but here I was, happily taking the wheel and doing all the driving myself.

It's quite an unconventional arrangement, isn't it?

He gets paid while I get to revel in the joy of being my own chauffeur. Who needs a designated driver when I can be the designated "driver-enjoyer"? It's like having my own personal comedy show on wheels, with me playing the lead role of the driver who doesn't actually drive.

As I arrived at the office, I skillfully parked my car in the designated lot, relishing the fact that I made them build a spot exclusively reserved for yours truly. It felt like my very own VIP parking oasis, a little corner of the world that bore my name alone, Kayla Brown, CEO. Ah, the sweet privilege of having a parking space tailor-made for my glorious presence! It's the small victories in life that make each day a tad more amusing.

As I stepped into the lobby, a familiar sight greeted me—the sight of my employees huddled together, engrossed in their usual morning gossip. I couldn't help but chuckle inwardly.

After all, who could blame them?

I had never been one of those stern and demanding bosses who strikes fear into the hearts of their team. No, that wasn't my style. I preferred to foster a more laid-back and approachable atmosphere. So, I chuckled to myself, silently patting myself on the back for not being one of those notorious "boss monsters" that haunt employee nightmares.

As soon as they caught sight of me, my diligent employees swiftly abandoned their morning chit-chat and scurried off to their respective duty posts. Among them, Olivia gracefully approached, poised and prepared to relieve me of my bag and files, dutifully assisting me on my way to the office.

“Good morning, ma’am.” She greeted me warmly, warmly, a genuine smile adorning her face.

"Morning, Olivia. Don't you worry, I'll take care of things from here," I said with a playful grin, waving my hand to encourage her to return to her duties.

As I stepped into my office, I was greeted by a delightful surprise—a bouquet of flowers, accompanied by a box of candies, a bottle of wine, and a card. My curiosity piqued, I couldn't help but wonder who could have orchestrated such a gesture. It was undoubtedly a kind gesture, but a part of me couldn't help but muse, "Is this supposed to sweep me off my feet?" I mean, where were the bundles of money? Don't get me wrong, I'm already quite wealthy, but if someone truly wants to win my affections, they better come correct. Forget these charming yet amusing gifts; show me the money, and I might just sway your way with ease.

Despite Olivia's desk being in close proximity to mine, my attempt to summon her yielded no response. I had no choice but to call her on phone and fortunately, she picked.

“I want to see you in my office,” I said, making an effort to temper my tone and avoid sounding overly authoritative.

In a swift manner, she promptly arrived, her response filled with a respectful tone, "Yes, ma'am."

Pointing towards the items, I inquired, "Do we have any idea who these things are from?"

"I have no idea, ma'am. The delivery was made by a courier," she explained, her voice carrying a note of uncertainty.

Acknowledging her response, I nodded in understanding and gestured for her to leave, signaling that she was free to go.

Without wasting a moment, I swiftly scanned the card, my eyes landing on a phone number. Curiosity got the best of me, so I decided to dial it and uncover the mystery sender. I figured out that that same number has been trying to reach out to me, sending lots of flirty texts. To my surprise, it turned out to be none other than the scorching-hot guy from the club—the one who left a lasting impression. The mere thought of reliving that steamy banging sent shivers down my spine, but alas, my dear friends, I have a strict policy—I don't do men twice. One sizzling rendezvous is more than enough for this sassy soul.

"Hello, Mr...," I uttered, my mind scrambling to retrieve the name that had slipped from my memory.

"George," he chimed in, as if reading my mind. "I suppose you've received my gift. I hope you like them?" he asked, his voice filled with a mix of anticipation and curiosity.

“Yes, George. They’re nice but this should be the last time,” I declared firmly, ensuring there was no room for misinterpretation.

"Why? Come on, Kayla. I miss you. Ever since that intimate moment we shared, you've been on my mind constantly. I desire you, and I genuinely want to build something meaningful with you. Please, consider it," he pleaded, his words laced with a mix of longing and sincerity.

"Of course, that's nothing new. Once you get a taste of me, it's hard to resist wanting to stay forever. But here's the thing, my dear—this baby girl has zero interest in getting entangled with you or anyone else under the banner of a relationship. And let me make it crystal clear, I have no intention of revisiting the fun we had for a second ride. So, please, do us both a favor and back off!" I ended the call, leaving no room for ambiguity.

Just as I was on the verge of discarding the flowers into the trash can, Stephanie made her entrance, intrigued by the situation.

"Hold on a sec, what's happening here? Looks like someone has a secret admirer," she playfully taunted, a mischievous glimmer in her eyes.

"Secret admirer? That's just silly," I scoffed, rolling my eyes. "It's actually the guy from Luminous Lounge who sent these flowers and gifts. He's audaciously claiming how much he misses me and desires a serious relationship. Can you believe the nerve?" I exclaimed, incredulous at his boldness.

She burst into uncontrollable laughter, her attempts to speak hindered by fits of mirth that consumed her. She found herself so deeply immersed in laughter that she came close to choking, leaving her unable to utter a coherent sentence.

Without hesitation, I swiftly disposed of the card and bouquet, relegating them to the confines of the trash. Then, I turned my attention to the box of candies and wine, grabbed them and headed towards Olivia’s desk. I generously offered them to Olivia. Her face lit up with a wide grin, and she graciously accepted the gifts, expressing her gratitude with heartfelt words.

After finally regaining her composure, Stephanie managed to catch her breath and addressed me playfully. "Madam," she began, "I actually came here because I need you to drive me to the airport. My business trip is scheduled for today."

"Wow, just like that?" I questioned with a hint of sarcasm. Stephanie had a knack for keeping me in suspense by withholding details about her life. She had a habit of leaving me to anticipate every little thing. She could have simply mentioned that her business trip was happening today, but no, she thrived on catching me off guard. It's all part of the grand surprise game with Stephanie, the master of unexpected announcements.

With a mischievous grin, she mouthed the word "Sorry," her playful demeanor evident. Then, raising an eyebrow, she inquired, "But seriously, you're not actually considering accepting him, are you?"

Laughter erupted uncontrollably from within me. Her unexpected question had caught me completely off guard, and my reaction was a testament to that.

Eager to refresh my memory, I inquired playfully, "What was our motto again?"

“Single and mingling, forever dodging those relationship bullets like a pro! Single and Sassy, Friendship Forever Classy!" We chanted in unison, laughing wholeheartedly.

Glancing at her watch, she swiftly realized that time was slipping away, causing a sense of urgency to wash over her. “Kayla, airport, now!”
