C179 Amanda Knows Her

Sarah couldn't stop smiling as she watched the scene unfold before her. Amanda stood in the middle of the office, completely speechless. She had tried several times to explain that she genuinely had no idea who Chris's mysterious wife was, but no one believed her. Instead, her colleagues became even more convinced that she was protecting the secret.

Devon Reyneke folded his arms and laughed. "Amanda, our department has always been good at keeping secrets." He leaned closer with a grin. "Come on, just tell us. Who is this mysterious beauty that managed to steal Mr. Chambers' heart?" Another employee joined in. "Exactly! You must know her if Mr. Chambers said himself that you know her." Amanda shook her head helplessly. "I really don't know." "You do!" Everyone laughed. "You just promised Mr. Chambers not to tell us."

Amanda sighed in defeat. The more she denied it, the less anyone believed her. Meanwhile, Chris and Sarah quietly slipped away from the noisy department and walked toward Chris's office. Sarah smiled as she looked around. "So this is where you've been working all these months." Chris nodded proudly. "Not the biggest office in the company, but it has witnessed many important moments in my life."

Sarah smiled warmly. "It brought you to where you are today." Without another word, she rolled up the sleeves of her blouse. "Come on, husband." "Let's pack." Chris chuckled. "Mrs. Chambers is already giving orders?" She looked at him with an amused smile. "We're wasting time." "If the new Vice Director reports late on his first day, everyone will laugh." Chris immediately saluted dramatically. "Yes, Director." Sarah couldn't help laughing.

The two began packing together. Most of Chris's belongings were simple, family photographs, several books, framed certificates, office supplies, and a small cactus that everyone in the department jokingly called his "assistant." Sarah picked up the little plant and smiled. "You've even been taking care of a cactus." Chris scratched the back of his head. "I've had it for three years." "It survived longer than some employees." The two laughed together.

A few moments later Amanda finally managed to escape from her curious colleagues and entered the office carrying an empty cardboard box. "Mr. Chambers..." "I'll help." Chris nodded gratefully. "Thank you, Amanda." The three worked together, carefully packing everything. While placing the framed photographs into the box, Sarah noticed one picture. It showed Chris, Mike and Alicia standing together after completing a major project. "They really are your closest friends." Chris smiled. "They're more than friends." "They're family."

Sarah nodded in understanding. "I hope one day they'll say the same about me." Chris looked at her lovingly. "They already do." Sarah's smile grew even brighter. After packing everything the three of them left the office. In the corridor Sarah noticed Samantha coming in the opposite direction. She still seemed distracted. Her eyes looked tired, as though her mind was somewhere else.

Sarah immediately waved to Chris and Amanda to keep walking as she approached Samantha. "Sister..." "Are you alright?" Samantha forced a smile. "I'm fine." "You don't look fine." Sarah gently held her arm. "What happened?" After a long silence Samantha finally spoke. "I went to visit Ben." "I wanted to tell him that Father had completed the bail procedures." She sighed softly. "But..." "When I arrived..." "He wasn't alone." Sarah frowned. "What do you mean?" "He was with someone." "A young woman." "They were talking happily."

Sarah looked even more confused. "Who?" "His secretary." Sarah widened her eyes slightly. "Natalie?" Samantha nodded. "Yes." Sarah became even more confused. "But why would that upset you?" Samantha smiled bitterly. "It doesn't." "I was the one who told him he was free to find someone else." "I've never been a proper wife to him." "Our marriage only existed on paper." She lowered her eyes. "So seeing another woman care for him..." "I suppose I have no right to complain."

Sarah gently squeezed her sister's hand. "I still don't understand." Samantha smiled sadly. "We'll talk properly during lunch." "You should focus on your own work." She looked toward the end of the corridor, Chris was standing there with Amanda. "Your husband is waiting." Sarah's cheeks immediately turned pink. She nodded. "Alright." "I'll come to your office later." Samantha smiled faintly before quietly walking away. Sarah watched her leave before turning back to Chris.

While standing there, Amanda suddenly asked. "Mr. Chambers..." He looked up. "Yes?" She hesitated before asking, "Who really is your wife?" Chris smiled mysteriously. "You'll know when the time is right." Amanda sighed. "Everyone keeps saying that i know who she is." Chris laughed. "I trust you." "You're someone who can keep a secret." Amanda nodded, although she was even more confused than before. A few minutes later Sarah returned. "This way." She led Chris and Amanda toward the executive floor.

The higher they climbed, the quieter the building became. Unlike the busy administration department, the executive corridor was elegant and peaceful. They finally stopped outside what had once been Ben Wood's office. The old nameplate had been removed. In its place was a brand-new polished silver sign. Vice Director Christopher Chambers. Chris stood frozen for several seconds. He quietly read the words again. Then once more. A smile slowly spread across his face. "I never imagined..." "...I'd one day stand here."

Sarah gently took his hand. "You earned it." He looked at her gratefully before opening the office door. Amanda followed behind them, equally amazed. The office was spacious, modern and beautifully furnished. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the entire city. A large executive desk stood proudly in the center. Nearby was another smaller workstation prepared for the Vice Director's secretary. Amanda slowly walked toward it. "So..." "This is my desk?" Sarah smiled. "Yes." "I hope you'll continue supporting Vice Director Chambers just as faithfully as you always have."

Amanda nodded respectfully. "I won't disappoint either of you." Chris smiled. "I know you won't." For the first time since entering the building that morning, everything finally felt real. A new office. A new responsibility. And... A completely new chapter of life had begun.
