C19 Your Son Prevented A Major Loss

The next morning, my phone vibrated repeatedly beside my bed. Half asleep, I reached for it and checked the notification.

The moment I saw the bank message, my eyes widened. For a second, I thought I was still dreaming. I checked again. Then a third time.

The amount was still the same. Six thousand dollars. I immediately sat upright. Something was wrong.

My internship contract clearly stated that I would receive three thousand dollars per week. So where did the extra three thousand come from?

My first thought was Chris. Maybe the company had accidentally deposited both salaries into my account. But that didn’t make sense.

We had submitted separate banking details. The company couldn’t possibly make such a mistake.

Then another thought entered my mind. A dangerous one. Could this be Ben’s doing? Was this some kind of trap?

What if he later accused me of stealing company funds using my computer skills? The more I thought about it, the more nervous I became.

I quickly got dressed and headed to the dining room. As always, my parents were already awake.

My mother, Mary, was arranging breakfast while my father sat reading through messages on his phone.

The moment Dad saw my face, he frowned. “What is it, son?” “They didn’t pay you?” My mother immediately became concerned. “Mike, what’s wrong?”

I handed them my phone. “I was supposed to receive three thousand dollars.” I pointed at the screen. “But they deposited six.”

My parents exchanged looks. Dad studied the message carefully.

Then, without hesitation, he picked up his phone. “If you’re worried, let’s ask directly.”

A few moments later the call connected. He set it on speaker. “Boss,” Dad said politely, “sorry to bother you this early.”

Kelvin sounded surprised. “Quinton? Is everything alright?” “Is your son sick?” Dad laughed. “No, nothing like that.”

Then he explained the situation. “He expected three thousand dollars but received six thousand.”

For a brief moment there was silence.

Then Kelvin burst out laughing. His laughter echoed through the phone. Even I was confused. “Boss?” Dad asked. “There’s no misunderstanding,” Kelvin replied. “The extra money is a company reward.”

“Your son helped prevent a major financial loss.” “Our company policy rewards employees who make exceptional contributions.”

Then Kelvin added, “Tell him not to worry.” “And tell him to continue working hard.” The call ended shortly afterward. For a few seconds nobody spoke.

Then my mother’s face lit up with pride. “See?” She smiled warmly. “When people recognize your hard work, rewards follow.” Dad nodded in agreement. “The company has noticed you now.”

I looked down at my phone again. This time the money felt different. It wasn’t just a salary. It was proof that my efforts mattered.

Proof that all those late nights studying, practicing, and teaching myself skills had not been wasted.

For the first time in a very long while, I felt genuinely proud of myse

The breakfast passed in a cheerful atmosphere.

My parents seemed happier than I was. After all, they had spent years sacrificing their own comfort to give me opportunities.

Seeing me succeed made them feel that their struggles had not been in vain.

Soon it was time to leave. I grabbed my bag, said goodbye, and headed toward Wood IT Company.

When I arrived at the company, Chris was already waiting for me at the entrance.

The look on his face said everything before he even spoke. “Brother, we finally got our first income!” he said excitedly. I was happy too but Chris seemed even happier than I was.

While we were talking, Alicia arrived. She looked delighted as well. The three of us stood there for a few minutes celebrating our first salaries. I told them that because of the security threat I had helped stop, the company had given me a bonus.

I deliberately avoided mentioning the amount. Instead, I simply called it a “small bonus.” To celebrate, I offered to buy them lunch.

Both of them immediately refused. Since they had also been paid, they wanted to contribute. But I insisted. After a few minutes of arguing, they finally gave in. Soon we headed inside.

To my surprise, Team Manager Josh already knew about the reward. As I walked past his desk, he smiled and said loudly, “Congratulations on your reward, Mike.”

The office immediately became silent.

Everyone had heard him. As expected, Bright was the first to react. “What reward?” Alex jumped from his chair. “Team Manager, why are you keeping secrets from us?” “We want rewards too!” “If solving company problems earns bonuses, then we’ll work twice as hard!”

Josh immediately looked as though he had developed a headache. He rubbed his forehead before answering. “Our company policy states that employees who prevent major losses or solve significant issues may receive rewards.”

He paused and glanced at me. “Of course, rewards vary depending on the contribution.” “A reward is a reward.” The moment he finished speaking, he quickly walked away before they could ask more questions.

The entire office turned toward me. “Nerd, what did you get?” Alex asked eagerly. Bright and the others were just as curious. I smiled. “I got what women love the most.” The office became silent.

“What does that even mean?” Bright asked. I laughed. “Why don’t you guess?” The confusion on their faces was priceless. Without saying another word, I walked to my desk and sat down.

A few seconds later everyone suddenly sprang into action. Bright and Alex rushed toward the female employees.

“What do women love most?” The women looked equally confused. They also wanted to know. Soon answers started flying around the office.

“Shopping.” “Jewelry.” “Shoes.” “Money.” “Make-up.” “Handbags.” “Clothes.” “Perfume.” “Nails.”

Everyone began debating. “They couldn’t have given him make-up.” “Maybe jewelry?” “No, definitely money.” “What about shoes?”

They even looked down at my shoes trying to see if I was wearing something new.

The entire scene was so ridiculous that Team Manager Josh couldn’t stop laughing from his desk.
