C201 Do You Have Drivers Lisence

Morning arrived far sooner than any of us had hoped. The events of the previous day still lingered in everyone's hearts, yet despite the exhaustion, the Mooney residence was already bustling with activity before sunrise. I had barely slept. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Alicia collapsing in pain. Even though the doctors had assured us she was safe, my heart refused to settle.

After tossing and turning for most of the night, I finally gave up trying to sleep. I got out of bed, took a quick shower, changed into my work clothes, and headed downstairs. To my surprise... The entire family was already awake. The aroma of breakfast filled the house. Georgia stood in the kitchen, calmly directing the maids. "Don't make anything too oily." "Alicia needs light food." "And prepare extra soup."

One of the maids nodded. "Yes, Madam." Another asked, "Should we also prepare fresh fruit?" Georgia smiled warmly. "Of course." "Pregnant women need proper nutrition." Watching everyone fuss over Alicia made me smile. Even though she wasn't at home... The entire household revolved around her. Peter was already seated in the dining room reading the morning newspaper, while Mark adjusted his tie before leaving for work.

When he saw me enter, he smiled. "Morning, Mike." "Did you sleep?" I scratched the back of my head awkwardly. "A little." Peter lowered his newspaper. "Thinking about Alicia?" I nodded honestly. "I couldn't stop worrying." Peter folded the newspaper and smiled knowingly. "That simply means you're already becoming a good husband." Breakfast was served shortly afterward. No one lingered long. Both Mark and I still had work to attend to after visiting Alicia.

As everyone stood to leave, Peter suddenly looked toward me. "Mike." "How are you planning to get to Lucia Goods afterwards?" "I'll take a taxi from the hospital." Peter immediately frowned. "A taxi?" He looked at me seriously. "Do you have your driver's licence?" I nodded. "Yes, Grandpa." His expression immediately softened. "Good." "Then you won't need a taxi." Without another word, he stood up and disappeared toward the study.

A few moments later... He returned holding a familiar set of keys. Hyundai i20. He casually tossed them toward me. I barely caught them. I stared at the keys in disbelief before looking back at him. "Grandpa..." Peter waved his hand dismissively. "You're driving." I blinked several times. "You mean..." "This car?" He nodded as though it were the most natural thing in the world. "I bought it years ago." "It has barely been used." "It'll serve you well."

I stood there speechless. "I..." "I can't accept such an expensive gift." Peter chuckled. "Nonsense." "You're already family." "Besides..." He pointed toward the front door. "If we keep talking..." "Alicia might wake up hungry before we even get there." "Let's go." Everyone laughed. Soon... The garage doors slowly opened. Mark's black Range Rover rolled out first. Behind it came Peter and Georgia in their familiar black sedan.

Finally... I carefully started the blue Hyundai. Even though I had practised driving with Alicia... This was my first time driving alone. I gripped the steering wheel tightly. "Don't panic." "Take it slow." The three vehicles made their way toward City Hospital. Naturally... Mark's Range Rover disappeared far ahead almost immediately. Peter's sedan wasn't far behind. Meanwhile... I drove cautiously, obeying every speed limit and checking every mirror twice.

When I finally approached the hospital... Traffic near the entrance had slowed everyone down. Fortunately... The others had waited. Peter smiled proudly as I parked beside them. "See?" "I told you." "You'll do just fine." I smiled sheepishly. "I still have a long way to go." Together... We entered the hospital. The morning corridors were much livelier than they had been the previous night. Doctors hurried between wards. Nurses pushed medicine carts.

Patients slowly walked through the hallways during their morning exercises. We eventually arrived outside VIP Room 512. Peter gently knocked. No answer. He knocked again. Still nothing. Mark smiled. "She is probably still asleep." Peter carefully turned the handle. The door opened quietly. The scene inside immediately warmed everyone's hearts. Alicia was sleeping peacefully. Beside her bed... Mary had fallen asleep in the chair.

A blanket covered her shoulders. Her head leaned slightly to one side, clearly showing she had spent the entire night watching over Alicia. For several moments... Nobody spoke. Even Peter's expression softened. Only after few seconds did Mary slowly wake. She rubbed her sleepy eyes. "What time is..." "...morning already?" Then she looked toward the entrance. Her eyes widened. "So many people?" "Oh my..." "I didn't even hear you come in."

Alicia also slowly opened her eyes. Still drowsy... She blinked several times before realizing the room was suddenly full. "Grandpa..." "Grandma..." "Dad..." "Mike..." A warm smile spread across her face. Seeing everyone together first thing in the morning... Somehow made the hospital room feel less lonely. Georgia walked over immediately. "Mary..." "When did you come?"

Mary smiled sheepishly. "Last night." "This son of mine didn't tell me anything." "So I came to see my daughter-in-law myself." The moment she finished speaking... Peter and Georgia simultaneously turned toward me. I instantly remembered last night's conversation in the car. "I'll explain everything when I get to Alicia's home." They had even questioned me about those exact words.

Now... Mary's unexpected appearance exposed everything. I scratched the back of my head awkwardly. "Mom..." "I'm sorry." "I really forgot." The room instantly erupted into laughter. Even Alicia laughed so hard that she had to hold her stomach. Peter shook his head while smiling. "You forgot?" "I think worry has completely taken over your brain." "I think so too." Even Mary laughed. "I'll forgive you." "But only this once."

The cheerful atmosphere quickly filled the entire room, making it almost impossible to believe that just yesterday everyone had feared the worst. As Georgia unpacked the breakfast they had brought from the Mooney residence, Peter's eyes drifted toward the bedside cabinet. It was overflowing with fruit. Apples. Oranges. Bananas. Grapes. Pears. Even strawberries. He looked at Mary in surprise. "Mary..." "Did you buy all of these?"
