C278 Are You Cheating On Me
The atmosphere inside Alicia's office gradually became peaceful again after their playful conversation. I was still staring at my wife with curiosity. "Wife..." She looked up from arranging the documents on her desk. "Yes?" I folded my arms. "You still haven't answered my question." She smiled knowingly. "I know." "Then answer it." Alicia let out a soft laugh before leaning back in her chair. "It isn't as mysterious as you're making it sound." "Oh?"
She nodded. "Since I was little, my father, Grandpa Peter, Grandma Georgia... everyone used to give me money during birthdays, Christmas, and other special occasions." "And?" "I never spent it." I blinked. "You... never spent it?" She shook her head proudly. "I liked saving money more than buying things." I couldn't help laughing. "You've been acting like a little banker since childhood." She laughed together with me. "My father always teased me for that."
She paused before continuing more softly. "Then, before my mother passed away..." Her voice became gentler. "...my father once told me that my mother had left all her personal savings for me." I stared at her. "Wait..." "So your mother was rich too?" Alicia froze for a moment then nodded slowly. "I think so." I scratched my head. "Then she married into another wealthy family..." She became quiet. Her eyes slowly drifted toward the window. For a long moment she didn't answer. Finally, she smiled faintly. "I honestly don't know anything about my mother."
There was something lonely hidden behind that smile. I immediately realized I had touched a painful topic. Instead of asking another question, I simply smiled. "Then let's work hard so our child becomes richer than both of us." That finally made her laugh again. "I like that goal." She stood up and straightened the documents on her desk. "Now let's stop talking about money." "Lunch will be here before we know it." I nodded. "You're right." With that, I returned to my respective office.
Meanwhile... At Wood IT Company Headquarters, another small surprise had just arrived. One of the security guards walked through the corridor carrying a neatly wrapped gift box. He stopped outside the Vice Director's office before knocking twice. Knock... knock... Amanda looked up from her desk. "Come in." The guard entered politely. "Good morning, Vice Director." Chris looked away from the report he had been reading. "Morning."
The security guard placed the gift on Chris's desk. "Someone asked me to deliver this to you." Amanda immediately smiled mischievously. "Oh..." She looked between Chris and the gift. "You two argued a little while ago, and now she is already sending you presents?" Chris frowned. "What are you talking about?" Amanda pointed at the box. "Isn't it from your wife?" Chris looked just as confused. He turned toward the guard. "Who gave this to you?"
The security guard scratched his head awkwardly. "I... honestly can't remember." Chris raised an eyebrow. "You forgot?" "It was a young lady." He thought for a moment. "She drove here herself." "I remember that much..." "But I can't remember her name." Chris sighed helplessly. "That doesn't help." Without another word, he stood up, picked up the gift and walked straight toward Sarah's office. Inside the Director's office... Sarah was busy discussing a document over the phone.
Just then. The door burst open. Chris walked in confidently while carrying the wrapped gift. Sarah blinked in surprise. Chris smiled brightly. "So..." He raised the package. "You've become my secret admirer now?" Sarah immediately ended the phone call. "I'm sorry. I'll call you back in a few minutes." She placed the phone down before looking at him. "Husband..." "What happened now?" Chris proudly lifted the gift. "Hearing you tell me you love me would've been enough." He smiled dramatically. "You didn't have to buy me presents."
Sarah rubbed her forehead. "Chris..." "Are you day dreaming?" "Or did you secretly drink alcohol before coming to work?" Chris blinked. "So..." "You really didn't send this?" Sarah crossed her arms. "Why would I?" "I already pay your salary." He shook his head. "Salary is for work." "A gift is completely different." Sarah laughed. "I promise I didn't buy anything." She looked at the package more carefully. Then suddenly her expression changed.
She slowly narrowed her eyes. "Wait..." Chris immediately looked at her. "What?" Sarah pointed at him. "What if..." "...It is from your secret admirer?" Chris almost choked. "What?!" She stepped closer. "Christopher Chambers..." She folded her arms. "Are you cheating on me?" "Cough... cough..." Chris coughed repeatedly. "I would never!" Sarah burst into laughter. "Then open it." "We'll know who it came from." Chris nodded quickly. "Exactly." "There is only one way to find out."
He carefully removed the ribbon before opening the box. The moment the lid lifted... Both of them froze. Inside were two incredibly beautiful luxury watches. Sarah's eyes immediately sparkled. "They're gorgeous!" Without waiting, she picked up the ladies' watch. "It's so beautiful..." She suddenly noticed tiny engraved words. "Mrs. Chambers." Her eyes widened. "Husband!" "Look!" She excitedly showed him. "They engraved 'Mrs. Chambers.'"
Chris smiled before checking the men's watch. Sure enough... "Mr. C. Chambers." He couldn't help smiling. "They even engraved my name." Sarah carefully searched inside the box again. "There seems to be something else." She unfolded the small letter. Then began reading aloud. "Protector. I'm not sure whether you already have a girlfriend or even a wife. I want to apologize once again for everything that happened between Mike and me. Please accept this as a gift of friendship. Laura Tryon."
The office became quiet. Then. Chris suddenly laughed loudly. "Hahaha!" Sarah looked at him. "What?" Chris shook his head. "So..." "She's trying to buy my forgiveness with expensive watches." Sarah smiled while admiring the ladies' watch. "They really are beautiful though." Chris looked at her. "So..." "You like them?" She gave him a strange look. "If I say no..." "...are you planning to give them to someone else?" Chris immediately shook his head. "No!" "I was just asking."
He sighed. "The truth is..." "I still haven't forgiven her." Sarah tilted her head. "Why?" "Didn't everything become clear afterwards?" "Everyone found out Ben forced her." Chris nodded. "I know." "But..." "My brother almost spent the rest of his life in prison." "I trusted her." "When she testified against Mike..." He sighed deeply. "...that hurt." Sarah gently nodded. "I understand." Then she smiled. "But people make mistakes." Chris shrugged. "Maybe." Sarah stretched out her hand. "Give me Laura's number."
Chris stared at her. "Why would I have Laura's number?" This time Sarah became speechless. She blinked twice. "...You don't?" Chris laughed. "No." She sighed dramatically. "Forget it." Chris smiled before placing the men's watch onto his wrist. "So..." "We're keeping them?" Sarah immediately wore hers. "If you don't want yours..." "...don't wear it." She admired the elegant watch happily. "But I love mine." Chris chuckled. "My wife has expensive taste." She smiled proudly. "I certainly do." Still laughing, Chris walked back toward his office wearing the watch.
Meanwhile... At Nova Blaze Jewelry Headquarters... Prince Gomez had finally found a rare moment to rest inside his office. Just as he leaned back in his chair, another knock echoed through the room. "Come in." Albert, one of the senior shareholders, entered carrying several files. "Director." Prince slowly opened his eyes. "Yes?" Albert hesitated before speaking. "I heard our newly released Limited Edition couple watches were sold by chief inspector today."
Prince nodded calmly. "That's correct." Albert looked confused. "But..." "The company hasn't received any payment authorizing their release." Prince simply waved his hand dismissively. "Albert..." "You're worrying too much." He closed his eyes again. "Please let an old man enjoy his rest." Albert looked even more confused than before. "...Yes, Director." Unable to understand why Prince looked so relaxed, he quietly left the office. Inside the Chief Inspector's office, Laura was reviewing several new jewelry designs waiting for her approval.
She carefully examined every detail before placing another file aside. Just then. Her office telephone rang. Ring... Ring... She picked it up. "Chief Inspector speaking." Portia's excited voice came through the receiver. "Chief!" "A message has just arrived!" Laura smiled. "My message?" "Yes, Chief." Laura didn't think much of it. "Alright." "Bring it to my office." She gently placed the receiver back down, completely unaware of the message that was waiting for her.
