C284 A Story For Another Day
Sarah laughed even harder. "Husband..." "Do you really think Samantha would do something like that?" Chris looked out of the window. "I don't know." "Maybe." Sarah shook her head helplessly. "You really refuse to let the past go." Chris remained quiet for several seconds before speaking again. "I accepted her apology." He paused. "But that doesn't mean I've forgiven her."
His voice became much calmer. "For six months..." "My brother lived like a completely different person." "He blamed himself every single day." "He wanted answers." "He wanted to know what he had done wrong." "He kept hoping Samantha would explain everything." Sarah quietly listened. Chris continued. "You keep saying Ben forced everything." "Fine." "I believe that." "But Samantha still chose to attend that party." "And after everything happened..." "Why didn't she simply explain the truth?" "Why send Mike a breakup message?"
He sighed deeply. "That message destroyed the last bit of hope my brother still had." The car became silent. Sarah kept her eyes on the road. After a while, she finally spoke softly. "Then..." "Should you also hate me?" Chris turned toward her. She smiled faintly. "Ben is my brother." "Samantha is my sister." "If you're angry with them..." "Shouldn't you also be angry with me?" She hesitated before adding shyly, "Or..." "Is it because we've shared the same bed..." "...that you can't stay angry with me?"
Chris's eyes widened. His mouth opened slightly. For the first time that day... He had absolutely no answer. Sarah secretly smiled to herself. She had finally won one of their playful arguments. Realizing he was losing, Chris immediately changed the subject. "I've decided something." Sarah glanced at him. "What is it?" "I want to buy a car." Sarah blinked. "A car?" Chris nodded confidently. "Yes." She looked genuinely surprised. "Wait..." "You actually have a driver's licence?"
Chris stared at her in disbelief. "What?" "You thought I rode a bicycle because I didn't know how to drive?" Sarah nodded innocently. "I honestly did." Chris laughed helplessly. "Wife..." "Have you forgotten who my parents are?" "My mother is one of the best nurses in the country." "My father is a university professor." "It's not like I couldn't afford a car." Sarah thought for a moment. "Then..." "What stopped you from buying one?" Chris became unusually quiet. After a few moments, he smiled. "It was because of Mike."
Sarah looked at him curiously. "My brother rode a bicycle every day." "If I bought myself a nice car while he couldn't..." "It wouldn't have felt right." "I couldn't leave him behind." "So..." "I simply rode with him." Sarah smiled gently. "You really care about your brother." She narrowed her eyes teasingly. "In fact..." "I've started wondering if there's something more." Chris looked confused. "What do you mean?" Sarah smiled mischievously. "Tell me honestly..." "Are you straight?" She winked.
Chris stared at her for a second before bursting into laughter. "You really enjoy provoking me, don't you?" Sarah nodded proudly. "I do." Chris shook his head. "There's nothing to answer." "I only love one woman." He looked at her warmly. "My wife." "But that doesn't mean I'll stop caring about my brother." "He's suffered enough already." Sarah's cheeks turned slightly red. She smiled softly. "I love you too..." "Husband." Chris froze. "...What?"
Then something suddenly came back to him. "Wait." "Yesterday you asked whether you'd be living with my family." Sarah nodded. "Yes." Chris rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Now that I think about it..." "My wife has never visited my room." "You've never even made tea for my parents." Sarah almost choked. "W-What?" "I didn't mean it like that." Chris laughed. "Still..." "You should come inside sometime." Sarah immediately shook her head. "Not today." "I still have too many things to organize." "I have tomorrow's schedule to plan."
She looked at him accusingly. "You wanted to meet your brother." "But somehow..." "You made it sound like the whole idea came from me." "So now I have to organize everything." Chris laughed loudly. "Do women always like planning everything?" Sarah frowned. "What do you mean?" Chris smiled as memories surfaced. "Before you came into our lives..." "Alicia was exactly the same." Sarah became interested. "Really?" Chris nodded. "Whenever we planned to go somewhere..." "She arranged everything." "Picnics..." "Kite flying..."
He chuckled. "She even secretly planned how Mike was supposed to confess his feelings to Laura." Sarah's eyes widened. "Wait..." She interrupted him. "What do you mean Alicia planned everything?" Chris nodded naturally. "She was the mastermind." Sarah blinked repeatedly. "Then..." "How did Mike end up marrying Alicia instead?" "And another thing..." "If Laura already knows Mike is happily married..." "Why is she still trying so hard to become friends with all of you?"
Chris smiled mysteriously. "That's..." "A story for another day." Before Sarah could protest... The car slowly came to a stop outside the Chambers residence. Chris unfastened his seatbelt before smiling at her. "But..." "If you come inside..." "I'll tell you the whole story." Sarah looked toward the house. She really wanted to know. Especially now that she had already invited Laura and Bright to join them at the mall. But she was exhausted. She still needed to prepare tomorrow's schedule.
Finally she smiled. "Husband..." "Tell your parents I'll visit tomorrow." "And..." "You'll tell me everything tomorrow." Chris's face immediately brightened. "You'll stay overnight?" Sarah couldn't help smiling at his excitement. "Yes." "But..." She pointed a finger at him. "Remember..." "I'm pregnant." "So don't even think about anything naughty." Chris placed a hand over his chest dramatically. "Am I really that naughty?" Sarah laughed softly. "I honestly don't know."
She started the engine again. "Oh..." "And tell your parents not to cook dinner." Chris looked surprised. "Why?" Sarah smiled sheepishly. "I'm not a very good cook." "So..." "I'll just order dinner for everyone." Chris's smile became even brighter. "Deal!" He quickly climbed out of the car, waving excitedly before disappearing through the front gate. Sarah watched him leave with a gentle smile before driving away.
At the Wood Residence... Ben had been lying quietly on his bed, trying unsuccessfully to rest. His thoughts refused to settle. Suddenly... His phone began vibrating continuously. Buzz... Buzz... Buzz... Frowning, he picked it up. A breaking headline immediately caught his attention. "Former Vice Director's Wife Finally Avenges Her Husband's Betrayal!" Confused, Ben quickly opened the article. Several photographs filled the screen.
The first showed Chris climbing into Samantha's car outside Wood IT Company. Another captured Samantha walking beside him. Ben's eyes widened. He sat upright immediately. "...What?" He quickly scrolled through the rest of the article, his expression growing more and more stunned.
