C293 Meet Up
Laura acted as though she hadn't heard Bright. She quickly unfastened her seatbelt, unlocked the door, and hurried toward the group. Bright had no choice but to follow after her. The sound of running footsteps made us all turn around. The moment Chris saw Laura, with Bright following close behind, his eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. He turned dramatically toward Sarah. "Hhee... My wife is really testing me. Tell me, what did I do wrong to deserve this punishment? You even want me to spend my weekend with my enemies?"
Alicia and I also turned to look. We had honestly thought Sarah's surprise guest would be Samantha. Instead... It was Laura. Laura walked straight to Alicia and hugged her warmly. "Mrs. Smith! How have you been?" Alicia laughed before glancing at Sarah. "So the surprise guest is Laura?" Laura then turned toward Sarah, hugged her as well, and smiled. "So... you're Mrs. Chambers?" Chris immediately interrupted. "Who gave you permission to hug her?"
By the time Bright reached us, Chris pointed at him dramatically. "And here comes the biggest traitor!" Bright smiled awkwardly. "Well, Chris... we meet again." "Are you still angry?" He then greeted us politely. "Good morning, Alicia. Morning, Mike." Before either of us could reply, his eyes landed on Sarah. He immediately straightened himself before bowing respectfully. "Director." Chris clapped his hands together with satisfaction. "Exactly!" "That's what traitors do." "They bow and repent for their crimes."
Everyone burst into laughter. Chris folded his arms and continued, "Now tell us..." "What crime did you commit?" Sarah simply smiled and nodded politely. "Mr. Gomez." Only then did Bright straighten himself. After hesitating for a moment, he finally asked, "Director..." "Are you Mrs. Chambers?" Chris laughed loudly. "Was that the question both of you prepared?" "First this traitor asked it..." "...and now the biggest traitor asks exactly the same thing!" The laughter erupted once again.
Laura completely ignored Chris's teasing. Instead, her eyes fell on the elegant watch Sarah was wearing. It was the very same limited-edition watch she had personally asked Portia to design. The tiny engraving read, "Mrs. Chambers." Laura suddenly laughed. Without warning, she stepped forward and gently held Sarah's hand. "So..." "You really are Mrs. Chambers." Chris shook his head dramatically. "Laura..." "Where did you suddenly get all this courage?" "Have you been eating ship's liver?"
Laura smiled mischievously. "You keep acting as if you hate me..." "...yet you're wearing the gift I personally made." Chris instinctively glanced at the watch on his wrist before replying, "A gift is a gift." "But wearing it doesn't mean I've forgiven you." "You two should be enjoying your glorious honeymoon." Laura smiled. "And you should be enjoying your secret marriage." She looked at Bright before laughing. "Well..." "My husband knows now, so it won't be a secret anymore."
I couldn't help laughing. Turning toward Bright, I asked, "So..." "Are you still the same Bright who never stops talking?" "And how's Alex?" Bright visibly relaxed. He immediately moved closer to me. "Mike, I've changed." "See? I'm always quiet now." Laura nearly choked on her own laughter. Bright completely ignored her. "Ever since I got married, I go home early every day." "Alex keeps complaining that I leave work too early." He smiled. "Mike... we really miss you." "If only you were still working with us."
Before I could answer, Alicia interrupted. "You want him to go back to work for Sarah..." "...and leave his wife to manage Lucia Goods alone?" Bright smiled sheepishly. "You're strong." "You're smart." "You don't really need anyone helping you." "But as for me..." "I took over Mike's role." "And honestly..." "It's much harder than I expected." "Every day I discover that all the things Mike made look easy..." "...are actually very difficult." He sighed before looking toward Sarah. "And Director wants us to learn foreign languages." "Imagine learning both Spanish and French at the same time."
Alicia and I burst into laughter. Chris looked at Sarah. "Wife..." "I think Bright's promotion came too early." "I should demote him." "How can he discuss private company matters in public?" Sarah laughed. "Bright..." "When we're not at work, just call me Sarah." "And yes..." "I am Mrs. Chambers." She smiled lovingly at Chris. "And this man here..." "...is the father of my unborn baby." I smiled warmly. "Sister-in-law..." "I want my nephew to grow up energetic and talkative just like his father."
Then I looked at Alicia. "Unlike my wife." "She never rests." "She's always thinking ten steps ahead." "I think my daughter is already getting tired because of her." Alicia gently rubbed her small baby bump. "What?" "I'm perfectly fine." "So she should be perfectly fine too." Sarah laughed. "Yes." "My niece will definitely be healthy." "And smart too." She paused playfully. "Well..." "You two are both smart." "So she can simply choose whichever genes she likes." Everyone laughed.
Laura blinked in surprise. "Wait..." "You're both pregnant?" Sarah nodded happily. "Yes." Then she looked at Laura with a mischievous smile. "So..." "Tell your husband to hurry up and do his job." Chris immediately burst into laughter. "Brother!" "Did you hear that?" "Who's starting these conversations today?" "Yesterday they were both acting so innocent." Before I could answer, Alicia snorted. "Yesterday I was tortured because of you, Chris." "So don't bring up that topic again." Everyone laughed even harder.
After the laughter settled, Alicia turned toward Sarah. "So, Sister-in-law..." "What's the first activity you've planned?" Sarah answered without hesitation. "Window shopping." Chris groaned dramatically. "Here we go again..." "Window shopping." Laura looked genuinely confused. "What's wrong with window shopping?" "I actually like it." Chris and I slowly exchanged glances. Then, at exactly the same time... We both turned to look at Bright.
Bright immediately raised both hands in surrender. "Don't look at me like that." "I never said I liked it." "I don't like it at all." I laughed. "It seems only you girls enjoy window shopping." "But we'll accompany you anyway." I paused for a moment before smiling. "But..." "I do have one question."
