C339 A Secret No More

At Wood IT Company, the moment Chris stepped out of his car, he immediately noticed the curious looks directed at him. He already knew what was coming. Ever since Sarah had announced that he was her husband, there was no way he could walk through the company without becoming the centre of attention. Chris sighed and shook his head. This is exactly what I didn't want. He forced a grin onto his face and walked toward the company entrance.

Before he could even reach his office, he noticed several familiar faces waiting outside. His former department was gathered there. Even Amanda was among them. Chris stopped and looked at everyone. “You all came to confirm it yourselves?” Tricia smiled. “So the Director was your wife this whole time, and you kept it a secret from us?” Several others immediately joined in. “How could you keep such a big secret from us?” “We were practically your family!” “You worked with us for so long!”

Chris laughed helplessly. Then, almost simultaneously, everyone turned toward Amanda. “Amanda, you knew all along?” “You knew Chris was married to the Director?” “You watched us make fools of ourselves while you knew the truth?” Amanda simply smiled. “A secret is a secret.” Everyone burst out laughing. Tricia pointed at Chris. “So that really is the confirmation.” Chris shook his head. “Come on, guys. What would people have said if they found out that I was working in the Administration Department while my wife was the Director?” Everyone laughed.

One of the employees raised his hand jokingly. “What is wrong with the Administration Department? Is it that bad?” Chris immediately shook his head. “No, that's not what I meant.” He looked around at them. “You people gossip too much. If I had told you the truth back then, the entire company would have known within five minutes.” Everyone laughed again. Before Chris could say anything else, a familiar voice came from behind them. “What is wrong with them knowing?” Everyone immediately turned around. Sarah was standing there.

Chris froze. Sarah smiled as she looked at the group. “Why are all of you suddenly so serious?” She walked closer. “Yes, my husband is Chris.” She pointed at him. “This big-headed guy who is always annoying. I'm sure by now everyone already knows how annoying he is.” The employees burst into laughter. Chris stared at them in disbelief. “She just called me annoying and none of you are going to defend me?” Nobody answered. Chris turned toward Sarah. “And who exactly is big-headed?”

Sarah simply smiled as she walked past him. “By now, you should have gotten used to that name.” Chris stood there speechless. “My name is Chris! Christopher Chambers!” Sarah didn't even turn around. Everyone laughed again. Chris could only shake his head. As the group began returning to the Administration Department, several employees congratulated him. “Congratulations, Boss!” “We wish you and the Director a happy marriage.” Chris grinned. “How can I be happy when she spends every day provoking me?” Everyone laughed again.

Elsewhere in the company, Josh sat quietly in his office. He looked troubled. The news about Sarah and Chris had finally become public, and Josh couldn't help thinking about the past. He leaned back in his chair and sighed. “So it's really confirmed. The Director and Chris are married.” He shook his head. “And she's even pregnant.” Josh remained silent for a moment. “I should probably go and apologize to her before she decides to fire me.” He frowned. “But I already apologized to them back then. Why would I need to apologize again?” He fell silent.

After thinking about it for a while, he sighed. “Still... it wouldn't hurt to apologize properly.” Just then, the door suddenly opened. Bright walked in without even greeting him. “Father-in-law, we have a big problem...” Bright stopped. He stared at Josh. Josh stared back at him. For a few seconds, neither of them said anything. Bright finally realized that he had walked into his office at the wrong time. “Team Manager.” Josh snapped out of his thoughts. “Bright, I'll be right back.” He quickly stood up and left the office.

Bright remained standing there, completely confused. “What just happened?” He slowly closed the door and returned to his own office. Josh walked through the quiet corridors toward the Director's office. With every step, his doubts grew. "Should I really do this?" He almost turned around several times. But eventually, he found himself standing in front of Sarah's office. He took a deep breath. Then he knocked. “Come in.” Josh opened the door. He stepped inside and immediately bowed. “Good morning, Director.” Sarah looked up from her desk. “Good morning, Mr. Tryon. How can I help you?”

Josh remained bowed. “Director, I came to apologize.” Sarah frowned slightly. “Apologize for what?” Josh took a breath. “Mr. Tryon, you can stand up. You don't have to bow.” But Josh remained in the same position. “I know you're married to Vice Director Chambers.” Sarah remained silent. Josh continued. “Before you became the Director, when Mike and Alicia were still working here, I made a mistake that eventually resulted in Laura marrying Bright. I'm sure you know about it.” Sarah nodded slightly.

Josh continued. “After I found out that Mike, who was working under me at the time, was dating my daughter, I couldn't accept it as a father. I thought he was using my daughter to get closer to me.” He lowered his head further. “Your brother and I made many decisions back then because of that misunderstanding.” Josh paused. “But today, I wanted to humble myself and apologize to you properly.” He finally raised his head slightly. “I already apologized to Mike and Alicia back then, but I wanted you to hear it from me as well.”

Sarah looked at him for a moment. Then she smiled. “Mr. Tryon, your daughter is my friend. Besides, I wouldn't punish you for things you did to my husband and his friends before I was even the Director.” Josh slowly lifted his head. “You're not angry?” Sarah shook her head. “You don't have to worry about the past anymore.” Josh finally relaxed. “Thank you, Director.” Sarah smiled. “I appreciate the apology. Now go and get yourself busy.” Josh nodded. “I promise I won't make the same mistake again.”

Sarah laughed lightly. “Good. Now go.” Josh turned toward the door. He opened it, but before leaving, he looked back. “Thank you, Director.” Then he finally left. Sarah watched the door close behind him. For a moment, she simply sat there. Then she shook her head and laughed softly. “What a morning...”
