C4 Samantha Is Pregnant

After we left the Vice Director’s office, Chris looked completely confused.

“What exactly was he calling us for?” he asked. “He didn’t discuss any work matters. He just spent the whole time criticizing you for nothing.”

I shrugged lightly. “Maybe that’s just his way of welcoming us, brother. Let’s not think too much about it.”

I often called Chris “brother” because over the years we had become incredibly close. Through every difficult moment in my life, he had stood by my side.

We returned to our respective departments and continued working.

Not long afterward, a notification appeared in the Wood’s IT Company group chat. It was a notice regarding workplace rules, dress code and employee conduct.

I quietly read through the entire notice. As expected, several of the examples mentioned seemed suspiciously directed at me. Without saying anything, I locked my phone and continued working.

My department manager was a middle-aged man named Josh Tryon. Unlike some people in the company, Josh was approachable, friendly and treated everyone with respect. He read the notice and looked at me.

A few minutes later, he walked over to my desk. “Did you somehow offend the Vice Director?” he asked with a smile. I looked up from my screen. “What makes you ask that?”

Josh chuckled. “The notice. Most of the examples he used sound exactly like what you’re wearing.” I couldn’t help but laugh slightly. “We were friends once,” I replied. “Don’t mind him.”

Josh studied me for a moment before speaking. “Listen, son. In my department, everyone is treated equally. I don’t care about someone’s family background, social status or personal grudges. If you work hard and contribute to the team, the team will respect you.”

For a moment, I was speechless. I searched his face for signs that he was joking.

There were none. His expression was serious. For the first time that day, I smiled genuinely. “Thank you, Team Manager.”

The rest of the afternoon passed peacefully. As Chris and I were leaving the building, we spotted the same familiar figure we had seen the previous day.

The woman was walking toward us.

This time there was no need to guess. As soon as she came closer, we recognized her. It was Samantha.

Chris froze. His eyes widened so much that I thought they might actually pop out. “Samantha?” he blurted out. “Is that really you?”

She stopped and looked at us. Chris continued before either of us could process what we were seeing. “Where have you been all this time? And… are you pregnant? Yesterday we saw you getting into Ben’s car.”

My entire body stiffened. The moment I looked at Samantha properly, my face turned pale. My breathing became shallow. My heart was pounding so hard that I could hear it.

Samantha looked at us with an expression I had never seen before. “So you two are the new interns?” she asked. Her voice was cold. Almost sarcastic.

She folded her arms. “You should be careful. Calling the Vice Director by his first name is considered disrespectful. People can lose their jobs for that.”

Chris looked completely stunned. The Samantha we knew would never have spoken like that.

Trying to understand what was happening, he asked again. “Samantha… are you close to Vice Director now?” His eyes drifted toward her stomach. “You disappeared for months. Now you’re pregnant?”

Before Samantha could answer, a familiar voice interrupted. “Why are you wasting your time talking to these lowly born people?

Ben walked toward us with his hands in his pockets. His expensive suit and confident expression made him look like a completely different person from the friend I once knew.

When he reached Samantha, he casually wrapped an arm around her. “Honey,” he said softly, “let’s go home and get some rest.”

Honey. That single word hit me harder than anything else. My chest tightened instantly. I coughed several times and grabbed Chris’s shoulder to steady myself.

For a moment, I thought my legs would give out beneath me. I couldn’t speak. Not a single word came out. I simply stood there staring.

The woman I had loved with all my heart. The woman I had spent six months thinking about. The woman I had convinced myself still cared about me.

She was standing beside Ben. Pregnant. Happy. And completely indifferent to my existence.

Questions flooded my mind. Had her parents really locked her away? When did she start seeing Ben? Why didn’t she tell me? Why did she leave without giving me an explanation?

I wanted answers. But the words refused to leave my mouth.

Before leaving, Samantha looked at me one final time. Then she smiled faintly. “See?” she said. “I told you before. We come from different worlds.”

The words shattered whatever hope remained inside me. The world around me suddenly felt distant. My vision blurred. Tears rolled down my cheeks.

I watched silently as Samantha and Ben walked away together and climbed into the same Royce we had seen the previous day. I never asked a single question. I never demanded an explanation. I was too broken to speak.

After the car disappeared, Chris turned toward me. His voice was filled with frustration. “Mike, why didn’t you say anything?” I remained silent. “You just stood there and let them insult us.” Chris shook his head. “You even let her call us lowly born.” I had no answer for Chris. Only tears.

People often say that men are stronger because they know how to hide their emotions. They don’t cry easily. They don’t show weakness. They carry their burdens in silence and keep moving forward.

Maybe that is true for some men. But it wasn’t true for me. Samantha had always been my weakest spot. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t stop the tears from falling.

Maybe it was because I was a nerd. Maybe it was because I loved too deeply. All I knew was that my entire world felt shattered.

How could something so big happen right under my nose? How could the woman I loved disappear for six months, return pregnant and standing beside my best friend? And somehow, I still knew nothing.

I struggled to catch my breath, everything felt heavy, every inch of body hurt.
