C443 She Had To Find Out

After having a few drinks at Ben’s club, we finally decided it was time to leave. The night had started with tension, but somehow we had managed to end it with laughter. The Lions had agreed to accept the Mayor’s proposition, and I felt like we had a plan. We returned to the Mooney family residence together. The moment we entered the house, Alicia went straight toward her father. “Father,” she said, “my friends agreed. You can tell the Mayor.” Mark's face immediately brightened. “That’s great, my child.” He looked genuinely relieved. “This means I get to keep my job as Police Minister.” Alicia smiled. “That’s what we wanted.” Mark didn't waste any time. He reached for his phone and called the Mayor.

The phone rang a few times before the Mayor answered. “Good evening, Mayor.” “Good evening, Mark.” “My daughter has made her decision,” Mark said. “Tomorrow I will come and tell you everything.” There was a brief silence. “No problem,” the Mayor replied. “I will be free at nine in the morning.” “Thank you, Mayor.” The call ended. Mark lowered his phone and took a deep breath. Some of the pressure seemed to have disappeared from his shoulders. Meanwhile, Alicia was holding Emmanuel. Our little boy had grown amazingly well. He was becoming more active every day, and lately, he had started making funny little sounds that made everyone in the house laugh. His eyes had also developed enough for him to clearly see the people around him. Alicia looked down at him and smiled. “You're growing too quickly.” Emmanuel responded with another strange little sound. I laughed. “He's already trying to have a conversation with you.” Alicia smiled at me. “Maybe he's telling me something.” The house gradually became quiet as everyone prepared for bed.

We had no idea that while we were settling down for the night, someone else had already arrived in the city. Hanna. And Destroyer. Hanna had changed her plans at the last minute. She had originally intended to bring the rest of her team into the city, but she changed her mind. This time, she wanted to keep the mission small. Only Destroyer would accompany her. After arriving in the city, the two of them booked rooms at a hotel. They deliberately chose separate rooms, but they were next to each other. Destroyer's job was simple. Protect his boss. He carried their belongings into their respective rooms and made sure everything was secure. Hanna barely spent any time unpacking. She looked at Destroyer. “Take me to the Kinlore residence.” Destroyer nodded. “Yes, Boss.” A few minutes later, they left the hotel. Destroyer drove through the city while Hanna sat quietly in the passenger seat. Neither of them spoke much. Hanna was thinking about Charlie Kinlore. She had already learned that Charlie was connected to Willy Harris. And after everything that had happened, Hanna believed Charlie might know something useful.

Eventually, they arrived at the Kinlore residence. Inside the house, Charlie was still struggling to accept the death of her uncle. Tears continued to run down her face. She had already visited Willy's estate and seen what remained after the police operation. Now she was sitting quietly, lost in her thoughts. Her husband, John, had been watching her for some time. He was becoming increasingly irritated. Finally, he could no longer remain silent. “Charlie, you're hiding something from me, aren't you?” Charlie looked at him but said nothing. John continued. “When I married you, you told me that you had left your family because of the kind of business they were involved in.” He shook his head. “But now you're sitting here crying as if you were still in contact with them.” Charlie lowered her eyes. More tears fell. John sighed. “And there's something else.” Charlie looked up. “You still haven't told me who those two people were who came to our house that morning.”

Charlie froze. Her mind immediately returned to the couple who had visited her. Director Mooney and Vice Director Smith came asking questions. They threatened her family. Her eyes widened. “Could it be them?” John frowned. “What?” Charlie whispered. “Did they kill my uncle?” Before John could respond, there was a knock at the door. Both of them looked toward the entrance. John stood up. “Stay here.” He walked toward the door and opened it. The moment he saw the two people standing outside, he froze. A woman and a man. Hanna and Destroyer. John stared at them. Then he shook his head. “Another couple?” He sounded irritated. “What is it this time? You came to rob us?” Hanna and Destroyer exchanged a brief glance. Hanna remained calm. She politely looked at him. “Mr. Kinlore, I'm looking for Charlie Kinlore. Is she home?” John pointed toward the living room. “She’s there.” Hanna nodded. “Thank you.” She and Destroyer entered. Charlie looked up. The moment she saw the two strangers walking toward her, she froze.“Who are you?”

Hanna smiled politely. “Mrs. Kinlore, we are very sorry for what happened to your uncle.” Charlie wiped the tears from her face. “How do you know about my uncle?” “We know what happened.” Charlie stared at her. Hanna continued. “We came here because we want to help you.” Charlie frowned. “Help me how?” Hanna looked around the room. “There are some things I would rather discuss privately.” John immediately stepped forward. His irritation returned. “What?” Hanna looked at him. John continued. “She is my wife. Whatever you want to say to her, you can say it here so I can hear it.” Hanna smiled. But there was something cold behind that smile. “Mr. Kinlore, I don't like people interrupting me and questioning me.” Destroyer remained silent behind her. Hanna's eyes stayed fixed on John. “So please speak politely to me, just as I am speaking politely to you.” John didn't respond. Hanna then turned her attention back to Charlie. “Mrs. Kinlore, this is about your uncle's killers.” Charlie immediately became still. “My uncle's killers?”

Hanna nodded. “If you want to know more, come to this hotel tomorrow morning.” She reached into her pocket and handed Charlie a small card. “Come alone.” Charlie stared at the card. Hanna gave her the room number. “I'll be waiting.” Charlie looked up. Hanna smiled once more. “Have a good night.” She turned around. Destroyer followed her toward the door. Neither of them said another word. John watched them leave. The door closed behind them. For several seconds, the house remained silent. Charlie continued staring at the card in her hand. Her mind was racing. Who were these people? How did they know about her uncle's death? And, more importantly, how did they know about his killers? She looked toward the door through which Hanna and Destroyer had disappeared. There had been something strange about the woman. She had been polite. She had spoken calmly. She had even smiled. But Charlie could feel it. That woman was not simple. There was something dangerous hidden behind her calm expression. Charlie slowly slipped the card into her purse. She didn't know whether meeting Hanna the next morning would give her the answers she wanted. But if Hanna really knew who had killed Willy Harris, Charlie knew one thing. She had to find out.
