C537 Why Did She Take The Blame

Miller looked around the room before finally speaking. "It's a good thing you didn't make this confession in front of Darry." He turned towards Laura, his expression serious but not entirely unkind. "My child, I told you before that I was sorry for what happened to your father, and I meant it. I still regret what happened to him. But what you've just told us troubles me for several reasons." He paused, studying her face. "You said you became involved in this life because you wanted to help Alicia avenge her mother's death. Now, you're confessing to killing my son, Samson, because you want to protect Alicia from Hanna's revenge. That tells me a great deal about you and your loyalty to Alicia." Miller sighed. "However, I cannot decide your punishment right now. We don't know where Hanna is, and we don't even know what she's doing to Alicia. For all we know, Alicia could already be suffering because of what happened to Samson." Victor immediately spoke up. "Thankfully, her life candle is still burning normally. That means she's alive." Miller nodded, although the news did little to ease his concerns. "Then here's what I've decided. Laura, you will remain under house arrest until we find Alicia. Nobody needs to know about your confession for now. If word gets out that you killed Samson, your family could be in danger. We cannot allow that to happen, especially when we don't know how Darry will react."

He turned towards the guards standing nearby and waved his hand. Two guards immediately entered the room. "Take her away," Miller ordered. As the guards approached Laura, Victor suddenly stopped them. "Father, let her stay here in my villa. If she remains with me, my brother won't suspect anything." Miller considered the suggestion for a moment before nodding. "Fine. She can stay here, but make sure she doesn't communicate with anyone without permission. We cannot risk her confession reaching the wrong ears." The guards escorted Laura away. Coincidentally, the room they took her to was the same room Alicia's mother had once occupied. Laura said nothing as she entered. She was exhausted, emotionally drained, and uncertain whether her confession would be enough to save Alicia. For now, she had no choice but to accept the Gupta family's decision. After the guards left, Victor turned towards his father. "What are we going to do, Father? If Hanna harms Alicia, what happens then? We don't even know where she is, and we cannot contact her directly." He paused, considering their limited options. "Should I contact Hammer and his team? They might be able to help us locate Hanna, but they're currently keeping things under control at the border." Miller shook his head. "No. Don't involve them yet." He looked thoughtfully at Victor. "You said Mike called you earlier, didn't you? What exactly did he say? More importantly, how did he sound?"

Victor leaned back, trying to recall the conversation. "I can't say for certain. He sounded calm, much as he usually does. He only asked me to check Alicia's life candle, and when I confirmed that it was still burning, he thanked me and ended the call." He paused before continuing. "But now that Laura has arrived and confessed to killing Samson, I'm beginning to think the situation is far worse than I initially imagined. Mike might have sounded calm because he didn't want to reveal too much over the phone." Miller nodded thoughtfully before asking another question. "What about the tracker inside Gold and Diamond?" Victor immediately checked his phone. After examining the information displayed on the screen, he frowned. "It appears Alicia left it at the Mooney residence. The tracker shows that Gold and Diamond has never left the Mooney villa." Miller sighed. "So that won't help us find her." He stood up and began pacing around the room. "Find a way to locate Hanna. I'll gather my most trusted spies and have them search for her as well. We need to know where she's hiding before she does something we cannot undo." He stopped and looked at Victor. "And we need to find out everything Laura knows about Alicia's abduction. She may have information that could help us understand what happened. Victor nodded. "I'll speak to her." "Not now," Miller interrupted. "Let her rest first. She's been through a great deal today, and it takes courage to confess to something like this, especially when she knows the consequences could be severe."

He lowered his voice. "Besides, she has just admitted to killing my son. Whatever I think of her actions, I cannot ignore what that confession means." Victor studied his father for a moment. "Are you going to kill her?" Miller shook his head. "No. Not until I understand why Alicia took the blame for her." He walked towards the window, his expression growing more serious. "Alicia deliberately accepted responsibility for something Laura did. We still don't understand why. Darry believes Alicia killed Samson, and the First Family believes the same thing. By taking the blame, Alicia placed herself in danger to protect Laura." He turned back towards Victor. "If I kill Laura now, what do you think will happen when Alicia finds out? She'll question me. She may even lose her trust in me completely." Miller paused, remembering Alicia's earlier confrontation with the family. "She already questioned us when she learned that Darry had sent an assassination team after her. She wanted answers about why her own family would allow such a thing to happen. Imagine how she'll react if she discovers that I killed the very person she risked everything to protect." Victor listened quietly, beginning to understand his father's reasoning. Miller continued. "Until Alicia explains why she protected Laura, we cannot make a decision that might destroy whatever trust remains between us. Laura will remain under house arrest, and we will deal with her confession when the time comes." He returned his attention to the problem that mattered most. "Right now, we have a more urgent responsibility. We must find Hanna before she kills Alicia." Victor nodded firmly. "I'll do everything I can." Miller's expression hardened. "Do more than that, Victor. We know what Hanna is capable of, and we know how deeply she wants revenge. We cannot afford to underestimate her." He paused before delivering his final warning. "Find her before it's too late."
