C58 Rumors Seemed Believable
As I packed my things, Alicia appeared beside my desk. Because the Information Systems and Cybersecurity departments worked closely together, our offices were located near one another.
When we left together, the rumors suddenly seemed far more believable. To anyone watching, it looked as though we had planned to leave together.
What surprised me most was Alicia’s reaction. She looked completely unbothered. Not worried. Not embarrassed. Not even slightly uncomfortable.
Outside the building, Chris was already waiting. The moment he saw Alicia walking beside me, his expression immediately changed.
Before he could say anything, I spoke first. “Alicia, what are we going to do about those rumors?”
I looked at her seriously. “I’m not in a position to start a relationship.” “And honestly, I’m not strong enough to protect anyone if things become complicated.”
As I spoke, the image of Ben’s secretary taking that photograph replayed in my mind. But I kept that information to myself. At least for now.
Alicia listened quietly. Then she smiled. “Brother, I wasn’t born yesterday.” “I’m stronger than I look.” She glanced at both of us. “Besides, I feel comfortable around you two.”
“As for the rumors…” She shrugged. “I’ll ask my father to make them disappear.” Chris raised an eyebrow. “You sound very experienced.” “Has this happened before?”
Alicia sighed dramatically. “Unfortunately, yes.” Then she pointed at herself. “It’s not my fault that I’m so beautiful.”
She looked at Chris. “Some people’s girlfriends aren’t even close to my level.” Chris stared at her. Speechless. Again. I tried not to laugh. Alicia clearly enjoyed provoking him.
