C12 Chapter Twelve -The Truth Between Us

The sun was already slipping behind the trees when Elena stood behind the empty gym, her heart pounding like it was trying to break free. The soft sound of sneakers against concrete echoed closer — first one pair, then another.

She didn’t need to look up to know who they were.

Jayden.

Noah.

The air grew thick with silence, heavy with everything unsaid.

Jayden stopped a few feet away, his hands shoved into his jacket pockets. His hair was still damp from practice, eyes dark and unreadable. Noah stood on the other side, his jaw tight, expression guarded — like someone holding himself together just long enough not to fall apart.

“Elena,” Noah said first, voice low but sharp. “You’ve been avoiding us.”

She swallowed hard. “I just… I needed time.”

“Time for what?” Jayden’s tone was gentler, but his eyes searched her face like he already knew what was coming. “To figure out who you really want?”

Noah’s fists clenched. “You already made a show out of it at the game. You made it clear enough.”

Jayden’s voice hardened. “I didn’t mean for that to happen. It just—”

“Just what?” Noah snapped. “You couldn’t stand that someone else cared about her? You had to make it public so you’d win?”

“Enough!” Elena’s voice broke through them, trembling but strong. “Both of you, stop!”

They froze. She looked between them — the two boys who had somehow become the center of her world, and the reason her heart ached every single day.

Tears welled in her eyes. “You’re both hurting each other because of me, and I can’t stand it.”

Jayden took a small step forward. “Then tell us, Elena. Who do you want?”

The question hung in the air like lightning about to strike.

She looked at Noah first — his eyes full of pain, loyalty, and quiet love. He had always been there. The boy who once shared her childhood laughter, who knew her better than anyone. He deserved someone who could love him the way he loved her.

Then her gaze shifted to Jayden — his messy hair, that stubborn fire in his eyes, the warmth that made her feel alive even when everything else felt cold.

Her lips trembled. “Noah… I care about you. You mean so much to me.”

He looked away, swallowing hard.

“But…” Her voice cracked. “I love Jayden.”

Silence.

Just the sound of the wind, brushing past the trees.

Noah’s eyes widened for a moment before he blinked rapidly, turning away to hide the tears forming there. “I knew,” he said softly. “I just didn’t want to believe it.”

Jayden froze — like he couldn’t breathe. “You… you love me?”

Elena nodded, tears slipping down her cheeks. “I tried not to. I didn’t want to hurt anyone. But when I’m around you, Jayden, everything else fades. You make me feel… seen.”

Jayden’s jaw tightened, emotion flooding his eyes. He stepped closer, slow and careful, like he was afraid to break the moment. “You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to hear that.”

Noah’s voice cracked behind them. “So that’s it then? After everything, it’s him?”

Elena turned, her voice barely above a whisper. “I’m sorry, Noah. You’ll always be important to me. But my heart… it chose him.”

For a moment, no one spoke.

Then Noah gave a broken laugh, running a hand through his hair. “Guess I lost before I even started.” He turned to Jayden, eyes raw with emotion. “Take care of her, Hale. If you hurt her—”

“I won’t,” Jayden said, firm but respectful. “Not ever.”

Noah nodded once, then walked away, shoulders tense but proud — the kind of walk that said he wouldn’t beg, even if his heart was breaking.

When he disappeared around the corner, Elena finally let out the breath she’d been holding. Her hands trembled as Jayden reached for her, fingers brushing away her tears.

“I didn’t mean for things to get this hard,” he whispered. “But I’d rather fight a thousand times than lose you.”

Elena leaned into him, her forehead resting against his chest. “Then don’t ever let go.”

He wrapped his arms around her, holding her like the world had finally stopped spinning — like, after all the chaos, this was where they were meant to be.

The truth had been spoken.

It hurt, it healed, and it changed everything.

But somewhere between the ache and the relief, Elena realized — love wasn’t about who’d been there longest. It was about who made your heart feel at home.

And for her, that was Jayden Hale.

I feel for Noah 😭

Lot of love 🤍
