C41 If You Do Not Do Good You will Die

This was the first time he had seen Ye Tian looking so vulnerable.

From the moment they had met, she had always reminded him of a hedgehog, bristling with spikes, ready to launch into attack mode at any moment.

But now, as she lay there with her eyes closed, her sickly appearance was a stark contrast to her usual fierceness.

Gu Qinian watched her intently, her half-exposed face under the blanket mirrored in the depths of his dark, inscrutable eyes.

...

The following day, Ye Tian awoke to the faint sunlight filtering through the gaps in the heavy curtains, her mind still foggy.

Hadn't she been in the dining room before losing consciousness? How had she ended up in her bed?

Could she have been sleepwalking?

After rubbing her eyes and sitting up, she noticed her body felt significantly more relaxed, as if the drained energy had surged back. However, the clammy sweat still clinging to her skin was uncomfortable.

She stretched her neck, marveling at her surprisingly quick recovery, just as Gu Qinian entered the room.

Ye Tian blinked in surprise. "Oh, you're back."

Gu Qinian's gaze was steady and unemotional as he looked at her, ignoring her greeting and instead inquired, "What happened yesterday?"

The smile on Ye Tian's lips faltered, her voice tinged with sarcasm. "What's the matter? Did you come to interrogate me first thing in the morning on behalf of Ye Ziyan?"

When Gu Qinian remained silent, Ye Tian assumed her guess was correct. She raised her eyebrows mockingly and shrugged indifferently. "I can't help it. I just can't stand her. It's difficult to remain professional around someone who has wronged my grandfather."

She knew Gu Qinian wouldn't believe anything she said, so she felt no need to explain herself.

She braced herself for his usual biting sarcasm.

But it didn't come.

Instead, he simply stood by the door, his expression slightly grim as he spoke in his usual cold, detached tone, his voice devoid of any warmth.

"Don't you dare die in my house. Come out and eat."

He turned and walked away, quickly disappearing from Ye Tian's view.

This guy... Why doesn't he follow the script?

Ye Tian gazed at the door, her head cocked to one side in bewilderment, trying to figure out what was amiss.

After a while, she realized that she was the one who felt off. He had finally stopped mocking her, so why was she still uneasy?

Had Gu Qinian conditioned her to be a masochist?

The thought sent a chill down her spine, and she shivered, tossing off the blanket and getting out of bed. After a few steps, she paused and turned back to eye the trash can in the corner suspiciously.

Inside, three empty IV bottles and a piece of medical cotton lay silently.

Her brows quirked as she raised her hand; the needle marks were no longer visible, but pressing on the spot, she could still feel a faint soreness.

Her fingers gently caressed the tender area as a flicker of contemplation crossed her eyes. Her lips twitched into a small, silent smile.

But in an instant, the smile was gone, replaced by a mix of emotions.

After a brisk hot shower and a quick wash-up, she felt refreshed. Humming a tune, she dried her hair and checked her phone.

Sure enough, there was a string of missed calls from Shang Yuvyuv.

She thought back to the Weibo post from last night and smirked before calling Shang Yuvyuv back.

The call connected almost immediately, and Shang Yuvyuv's voice came through in a rush, "Oh my goodness, granny, you finally picked up! I was worried something had happened to you!"

Ye Tian chuckled, wedging the phone between her shoulder and ear as she continued to dry her hair.

"I'm alright. Don't stress over the stuff online. I'm actually glad I don't have to go shoot Ye Ziyan again. This blow-up might be a blessing in disguise. And as for being professional, that's not for her to judge."

Despite her words, she still harbored some concerns.

Before she could dwell on them, Shang Yuvyuv burst out, "What are you talking about? You clearly haven't seen the latest updates. I wanted to tell you, the tables have turned!"

"Ah?" Ye Tian was taken aback, not expecting things to escalate so quickly. "What reversal?"

"It's too much to explain in just a few words. Basically, everything Ye Ziyan did to you at the fan meet has been leaked. It seems like some haters snuck in, just waiting to spill her secrets. And she, of all things, decided to target you, which just played right into their hands. But now, things are getting messy. Some are just spectating, while Ye Ziyan's fans are attacking the whistleblower and targeting you, claiming it's all an elaborate setup."

Shang Yuvyuv couldn't help but scoff as she spoke, "These people should take up acting in palace dramas, with all their talk of setups and framing. It's laughable!"

After ending the call, Ye Tian checked Weibo and saw that things were as Shang Yuvyuv had described.

The whistleblower had exposed how Ye Ziyan had given her a cold boxed lunch, denied her hot water, and refused her breaks, complete with two incriminating photos.

One showed Ye Ziyan's scornful expression in the makeup room, her contempt palpable even through the screen, likely snapped through a crack in the door.

The other captured Ye Tian, dressed and leaving with a ghostly pale complexion.

Seeing her disheveled state in the photo, Ye Tian couldn't help but chuckle.

She didn't bother with the comments, feeling a sense of relief instead.

Ye Ziyan had truly dug her own grave, just as the saying goes, lifting a rock only to drop it on her own feet.

Who would have guessed she'd become a target for the haters?

Pushing the incident aside for the moment, Ye Tian set down her towel and headed for the dining room.

Gu Qinian was already seated at the table, leisurely sipping his porridge.

Casting a glance at the steaming bowl of white porridge, Ye Tian's eyebrows quirked up as she asked nonchalantly, "Did you make this porridge?"

Gu Qinian lifted his gaze, his eyes devoid of emotion as he met hers, "Yes, I made it. Why, don't you want some?"

Ye Tian retorted instinctively, "I'm worried it might be poisoned."

No surprise to her, she watched as Gu Qinian's expression turned stormy.

After a moment, he scoffed coldly, "You think I made this porridge for you? It was sent over by Han Cheng."

Ye Tian realized he was right. She confidently sat down and started slurping the porridge eagerly.

She hadn't eaten anything all day yesterday, and now that her fever had broken, she was ravenous. The bowl of plain porridge soothed her stomach, making her feel completely at ease.

As she set down her bowl and chopsticks, Gu Qinian spoke up again.

"What happened yesterday?"

Ye Tian stopped in her tracks, looking up to meet his unfathomable gaze, feeling a slight sinking in her heart.

His face was devoid of any expression, utterly impassive, as he continued to gaze at her intently.

Then, suddenly, the reflection of Ye Tian's mocking smile appeared in his pupils.

"Today is quite the surprise. You're actually asking me what happened. I was half-expecting you to demand an apology right away."
