C5 The Person Who Gave Him the Bone Marrow

Gu Qinian was always true to his word. Within twenty minutes of stepping out of his car, the hospital called to inform him that his grandfather's medical bills had been paid in full—a sum of exactly three hundred thousand yuan.

Ye Tian breathed a sigh of relief. Her grandfather's medical expenses for the coming months were now covered, and her efforts hadn't been in vain.

The hospital was swarming with reporters, forcing Ye Tian to navigate a maze of corridors before she could reach her grandfather's ward. She gazed at her grandfather, lying still with tubes crisscrossing his body outside the ICU, her heart heavy with worry. As she was about to seek out a doctor for a serious discussion, she turned and spotted a familiar face in the hallway—Ye Ziyan's father, her second uncle, Ye Yongcheng.

She raised an eyebrow, surprised. "Second Uncle, what brings you here? Did you come to visit Grandpa?"

Ye Yongcheng snorted with disdain. "He's got you, his doting granddaughter, doesn't he? Why would he need my visit?"

"Then what's your purpose here, Second Uncle? To seek revenge for your daughter? To beat me up?"

Ye Tian wasn't taken aback by his response; it was her second uncle, after all, who had been behind her grandfather's accident three years prior.

The contempt in Ye Yongcheng's eyes deepened as he regarded Ye Tian. "Ye Tian, I've been patient with you out of respect for your father, my own brother. But you had the audacity to lay a finger on Ziyan. Now, you can't blame me for not being polite."

"And how do you intend to be impolite?" Ye Tian asked, her eyebrows arching higher.

"I've arranged for you to attend a school abroad. Leave A City immediately and don't ever come back," Ye Yongcheng said icily, glancing toward the direction of the ICU ward. "Otherwise, no matter how much you pay for that old man's medical care, I assure you no hospital will dare to take him in!"

"The 'old man' you're referring to is your own father. He gave you life and let you inherit the Ye family legacy. Aren't you afraid of divine retribution for speaking such words?" Ye Tian's question was sincere; her second uncle's actions towards their grandfather had repeatedly redefined her concept of shamelessness.

"He may have given me life, but I fought for my place in the Ye family."

Ye Yongcheng scoffed, "Spare me the lecture on morality. Take advantage of the fact that I'm not interested in dealing with you right now and get out of A City. Keep your distance from the Ye family, Ziyan, and especially from Gu Qinian!"

Ye Tian realized Ye Yongcheng's true intentions only after hearing his last remark. Gu Qinian had long been the son-in-law he had approved of, and he certainly wouldn't allow anyone else to entertain the thought of taking that place.

The marriage between Ye Tian and Gu Qinian was a secret to most in A City, and Ye Yongcheng was no exception. He must have learned about today's medical expenses while keeping tabs on his grandfather, prompting him to rush over and issue his warning.

With a clear understanding, Ye Tian chuckled softly. She stepped forward, stopping just a step away from Ye Yongcheng, and looked up at him with a crooked smile. "I merely swindled some money from Gu Qinian, and here you are, Second Uncle, all worked up and ready to send me packing. Imagine how you'd react if I told you that the person who donated bone marrow and saved your life wasn't Ye Ziyan, but me. Would that scare you to death?"

"You wouldn't dare threaten me!"

At this revelation, Ye Yongcheng's face went pale. The bone marrow transplant had been a pivotal moment for the Ye family's alliance with the Gu family. Without it, the relationship between Gu Qinian and Ye Ziyan would not have flourished as it did, and the Ye family might not have been able to sustain its operations after their grandfather became comatose and the reins fell into the hands of Ye Yongcheng, whom he deemed worthless.
