C3 I Agree to the Divorce

Knowing that it was impossible to keep him, I took a deep breath. "I will agree to the divorce, but I just have one condition."

"One condition?" A mocking smile spread across his lips. With his eyes narrowed, he whispered into my ear, "You know, if you're trying to convince someone, it's useless to just rely on your words."

So, that was what he wanted. I slowly circle my arm around his face and leaned my head back against his chest. His warmth embraced me like a hug.

It was depressing to keep him like this—as if I was begging for his affection.

I instinctively moved my hand downward, but he quickly held it down. As if he had seen my questioning eyes, he scowled. "That's enough!"

I froze. Enough? He quickly pulled his grey pajamas from the bed and put them back on. Did that mean that he will stay?

"I—"

However, before the words could escape my throat, a feminine voice echoed from outside the balcony. The melodious tone overpowered the harsh, splattering rain. "Kieran..."

As if a switch had been turned on, Kieran rushed out of the bedroom, pulling his coat around him as he did so.

Peeking out, I could see Regina standing under the heavy rain. She was wearing a thin dress, which stuck to her skin as the raindrops trickled down her cheeks. She appeared piteous in her sickly state. I avoided the urge to sneer.

The man whipped his coat around her. However, before he could say anything, she quickly buried herself in his arms.

Perhaps this was why I could never compare to her. While he married me out of convenience, he was with her for love.

It didn't take them a second for him to take her into the villa. I stood at the staircase, blocking their way as they ascended up the steps. I gritted my teeth.

"Step aside," Kieran snarled.

Ha!

Who would've ever thought that I'll be trapped in a marriage with a husband who wouldn't even look in my direction? His eyes had always been for her... My heart thumped in my chest as I responded,

"When we got married, you had promised Grandpa that as long as I am here, you won't take her anywhere near our home." I had already allowed him countless nights with that woman. Why would he take her here as well?

"Ha!" He sneered. "You really do think too highly of yourself."

Pulling me away, he ushered Regina into the guest room. He didn't look back at me, as if I was nothing more than a maid.

Perhaps, I really was.

I watched as Kieran huddled around her like a child. Her thin body made her appear weak, and the heavy rain may have weakened her some more. Within the half-hour, she was already running a fever.

Suddenly, he glanced back at me tranced state. "Go back to the Juarez ancestral home. I won't be able to go back tonight."

"The ancestral home?"

Was I really that much of a bother?

I gazed at him for a long time. Did he even know how far it was? It was 11 PM. Did he really think it was appropriate for a woman to walk in this rain to that home?

Or perhaps, he knew, but he didn't care at all. All he ever cared about was the woman lying in front of me.

Suppressing the bitterness in my heart, I bit back, "I'll just be in my bedroom. It wouldn't be appropriate for me to return to that house this late at night."

He may not love me, but I can't just hurt myself.

Kieran didn't say anything to contradict me. Instead, he rushed out of the guestroom to meet Schaffer, who was already hurrying over.
