C11 Support Him
"Oh."
Leh Jiu's expression was one of cool detachment.
Yet, it was this very aloofness that made the woman feel as though Leh Jiu was challenging her.
"Let me tell you, I've seen my share of women who would sleep with men for money. The Si family is no place for someone like you to latch onto. Take your pay and get out of here immediately!"
The woman's gaze sharpened, and she looked at Leh Jiu with utter revulsion.
Leh Jiu fiddled with her shirt buttons, her demeanor remaining unflustered.
She internally scoffed at Nanzhi's poor taste in choosing a fiancée who didn't even brush her teeth in the morning.
Leh Jiu's subtle actions caught the woman's attention. When she noticed that Leh Jiu was wearing Si Nanzhi's clothes, her expression soured considerably.
Jealousy surged forth; she had never worn Nanzhi's clothes, yet this audacious woman had the nerve to do so!
"Who gave you permission to wear Si Nanzhi's clothes? Take them off!"
Leh Jiu cocked her head slightly and innocently replied, "Nanzhi."
Hearing Leh Jiu's reference to him, the woman was livid, "Who allowed you to call him that?"
Leh Jiu, unfazed, retorted, "Nanzhi asked me to call him that."
He certainly enjoyed it.
Ms. Chen, emerging from the kitchen, witnessed the tumultuous scene and was so startled that her legs shook.
How on earth did these two women end up confronting each other?
Ms. Chen approached. "Miss Qiao, you've arrived."
Qiao Lan smoothed over her hostility and turned around with an air of arrogance.
"Ms. Chen, how can you manage the household like this? I don't mean to criticize, but if Grandma knew you were letting just anyone in, and they ended up harming Si, she would never forgive you."
Ms. Chen inwardly rolled her eyes.
She thought to herself, 'Really taking the authority too far, aren't you? Just because you call her 'Grandma' doesn't make you family.'
"Don't you know Si doesn't like people touching his things, yet you let this woman wear his clothes. Are you getting forgetful with age?"
"If you can't handle the responsibilities of a housekeeper, perhaps it's time you retired."
Despite Ms. Chen's numerous objections, she couldn't possibly argue. After all, the elderly lady was fond of her.
Leh Jiu wore an innocent expression, yet her words cut deep. "I'm surprised that someone as young as you not only has a poor memory but is also hard of hearing."
Both Ms. Chen and Qiao Lan were taken aback.
Ms. Chen was astonished, finding it hard to believe that such a frail-looking young girl could be so sharp-tongued.
Qiao Lan, on the other hand, was seething with rage. Leh Jiu was the first person to have ever dared to ridicule her in such a manner.
"It was Nanzhi who asked me to wear this. What's the point in going to Ms. Chen?" Leh Jiu said with a feigned concern. "If you're not feeling well, you should see a doctor sooner rather than later. Don't let it turn into something serious."
Qiao Lan was livid, her face flushed with anger.
"Who are you cursing!?"
With a scowl, Qiao Lan pushed her.
However, the attempt was futile; instead of affecting Leh Jiu, Qiao Lan herself stumbled.
This infuriating woman looked frail, yet she was surprisingly strong.
Just as Qiao Lan regained her balance and prepared to lash out, she caught sight of a figure from the corner of her eye. Her sullen demeanor quickly shifted to one of tearful distress.
"How can you be so malicious? It's bad enough you wish illness upon me, but to curse Grandma too?"
"!!!"
"???"
Leh Jiu and Ms. Chen exchanged a glance, their eyes speaking volumes.
Was she ill?
Judging by her behavior, it seemed quite serious.
But they soon realized the reason behind Qiao Lan's outburst.
"Si."
Qiao Lan's voice was tender and affectionate.
Si Nanzhi emerged from around the corner.
His attire was simple: a white shirt and black pants that accentuated his cool elegance. His striking features were impeccable, yet his gaze was fierce, warning others to keep their distance.
Si Nanzhi remained unaffected by her call.
Lu Xing, overhearing this, shuddered.
Here comes the clingy nuisance again.
Leh Jiu mused to herself that they truly were an engaged couple, matching each other in the rapidity of their mood swings.
Si Nanzhi regarded her with an impassive gaze and inquired, "What brings you here?"
"Grandma sent me to bring you some nourishing soup," Qiao Lan replied, her eyes brimming with admiration as she offered the pink insulated container.
Such a display of girlish affection!
Si Nanzhi remained motionless, prompting Lu Xing to step forward and accept it.
Qiao Lan was disappointed but accustomed to the reaction.
"Si, who is this lady?" Qiao Lan adopted a look of aggrievement. "She insulted me as soon as she saw me, even suggesting Grandma was ill. I couldn't contain my anger and confronted her, only to be accused of having a mental issue. She's gone too far."
Indeed, this engaged couple shared a talent for distorting the truth, equally exasperating.
Ms. Chen hadn't been present at the initial incident and was unaware of the details, but she was confident Leh Jiu wouldn't have uttered a curse against the elderly woman. After all, Leh Jiu wasn't even aware of the grandmother's existence.
As Ms. Chen was about to defend Leh Jiu, Si Nanzhi gave her a look that was piercing and dismissive, as if she were simple-minded.
"Forgot to take your medication this morning?" he asked.
With that remark, he essentially confirmed Qiao Lan's mental instability.
Before the echo of his words faded, laughter erupted in the room—Leh Jiu's laughter.
Caught by the attention of the room, Leh Jiu quickly covered her mouth, feigning ignorance.
Leh Jiu withdrew her earlier comment, finding Si Nanzhi more endearing than herself.
Her laughter struck Qiao Lan like a resounding slap—stinging, mortifying, and utterly humiliating.
Qiao Lan shot her a frosty glare.
In response, Leh Jiu haughtily lifted her chin and returned the glare with defiance.
What's with the glare? I'm laughing at you!
When Si Nanzhi's gaze fell upon her, it softened, filled with warmth rather than coldness.
