C4 A Risky Idea

Aurora's pov

I was awoken by the sound of my phone ringing, I quickly answered the call without looking at the caller's ID.

"Hello Aurora Logan speaking," I said still feeling sleepy

"We're calling from the hospital, your mother fainted again…" I immediately jumped out of bed on hearing that.

"How's she feeling now? I'm coming as soon as possible" I asked quickly, putting on a gown.

"Well you honestly don't have to come, she's asleep now, she's stable. We just wanted to inform you about the latest developments. The doctor said she needs to undergo the surgery before two weeks…"

"Two weeks? Is there a donor already?" I asked

"Yes, there's already a donor" the call ended. I slowly sat on my bed, how do I raise a million dollars in just two weeks? What should I do?

"Hey babes" Doreen screamed as she entered my room

"You're up so early, I thought it was your day off today?" She asked, sitting beside me.

"What's wrong? you look like you lost your soul. Is it your mom again?" She asked

"The doctor said she needs to undergo the surgery in two weeks and there's already a donor" I explained

"How do we raise a million dollars in just two weeks?"

"I'm just so confused Doreen, I don't want to lose my mom" she pulled me into a hug.

"Come on, we'll find a way out. I already have a hundred thousand dollars and you have two hundred thousand dollars, that's three hundred thousand dollars, we just need seven hundred thousand dollars to complete it" she calculated.

"You want to help me out?" I asked, feeling a sense of gratitude

"Come on, your mom is like my mom…that's just the only way I can show how important you two are to me. Your mom would get that surgery, I promise you" She pulled me into another hug. She's the friend every girl would wish to have.

"So what are you doing today?"

"I'm going for the interview at the restaurant I dropped my application with two days ago then after that, I'll be going to the spa, I have a night shift there," I said

"So no off for you today?"

"Come on, I need to raise money, I can't afford to be having off days"

I went to my bathroom, took my bath, and dressed up. After putting on proper clothing for my interview, I looked in the mirror and smiled and smiled at myself…

"I can do it!" I picked up my bag and rushed to the living room where Doreen already had my breakfast on the coffee table. It was a bowl of noodles and veggies. I took a few spoons as I didn't want to overeat.

"That's all?" Doreen asked as she looked at the plate

"Yes please…take care" I blew her a kiss as I rushed out.

On getting to the restaurant, I said a little prayer before entering. I was extremely nervous and my heart was threatening to pop out of my chest. I knew I needed to hold my head high when I entered the waiting room only to see several young ladies who also applied for the job.

"I need to show confidence no matter how nervous I am" I whispered to myself. That's one of the skills I learned while going for numerous job haunts in the past. You have to be confident no matter what as most executives look for confident people, people who can keep a maintained expression despite the situation they are in.

"Who's Aurora Logan?" A lady asked, coming out of the interview office.

"I am ma'am…" I quickly stood up and went to her

"Ohh…you're pretty" she complimented and I returned it with my most beautiful smile.

"Come in…" she asked me in. The interview soon started and I was asked a series of questions, soon the interview ended and the manager who's been seated quickly said;

"Mrs Aurora… I must say, you're quite an impressive young lady and I love that"

"Thank you so much sir" he nodded

"We'll get in touch soon, have a nice day" I bowed before leaving the office. As I exited the restaurant, I exhaled tiredly. I've not even started my day and I'm already this tired…maybe I should have a cup of coffee nearby. I branched by a coffee shop and got a cup of coffee. I settled down close to the cafe's window to have my drink and enjoy the view at the same time since I still had hours before work today.

"Do you know Emily has signed another surrogacy deal?" Two ladies came to sit behind me

"Of course, I heard she was paid a hundred million for this deal" My eyes widened at the mention of a hundred million.

"I'm signing a deal today and I already got my down payment, fifty whooping million," the other lady said as they both squeaked happily.

"I just wanna spend it on myself before I start the baby process" she smiled, calling a waitress over. I was going to continue eavesdropping but I suddenly got a call from the hospital where my mom was.

"Ma'am please come to the hospital as soon as possible, your mom had another failure"

"What?!" I quickly packed my bags, rushed down the street and took a cab to the hospital.

I was directed to the doctor when I arrived and he was looking down when I saw him. I enquired about the details and he told me my mom had to undergo that surgery within five days or else we'd lose her.

"But you said in two weeks?"

I can't lose my mom now…" I muttered to myself as I walked out of the doctor's office. I lost my dad last year and I've still not recovered from that yet, now my mom's on the verge of dying too? Why's life so cruel to me?

As I came to the nurse's session, I saw the lady who was talking about the surrogacy deal at the restaurant earlier leaving with a particular nurse. Could it be that…? I rushed to the other nurse at the counter

"I'm sorry to ask but does this hospital deal with surrogates?" I asked and she nodded in affirmation.

"Is there any criteria to apply as a surrogate?" I asked as a funny thought crossed my mind.

"Well I'm not the one in charge but if you want to register, go down that hall and enter the third office on your right," she said before excusing herself.

"I've been given a minimum of five days to save my mom and there's no way I can raise seven hundred thousand dollars in just five days with just my menial jobs. Why don't I give this surrogacy stuff a try since it pays well like those ladies said?

I followed the nurse's directions and got to the office. On getting there, I enquired about the requirements to join and I was asked to undergo a full medical check-up. I was also assured that if everything turned out fine, finding a client in less than two days wouldn't be a problem. I decided to go home and think about it first before doing anything. Stuff like this can end up in a bad way and destroy one's life so I have to be careful. After seeing my mom and confirming that she was ok, I went home and prepared for work.

"Welcome back babes" Doreen hugged me as I came in.

"Thank you, hun"

"You smell like you just came back from the hospital, why?" She asked, frowning her face at the smell.

"Well I was called by the doctor at Everett Hospital, my mom has to undergo surgery in five days as her condition has become worse and any delay could lead to something else" I gave her a concluding look and she seemed to get the rest of the story, she fell on the couch tiredly.

"How do we raise the money in less than four days?" She pondered

"How do you see a surrogacy deal?" Her eyes immediately widened as she heard it

"Don't even think about it, that's too risky " she said

"But people do it…"

"Not you…you don't have the kind of heart they have. Aurora, a lot of girls who do that go through a hell of emotional trauma due to some reasons you know about well" she said. Well I know too well, how some girls end up falling in love with their bosses but end up losing in the end, that's not my goal

"I'll never be like that Doreen"

"Those girls said the same thing too but no one knows what will happen the next minute right?" She asked

"Well…you're right…it's too risky. I'll just find some other way" I replied.

"Yes we will find another way, surrogacy is never an option".
