C5 Chapter Five

Chapter Five

The days following the events of my suffering were peaceful, this was because Xavier received an urgent call and he had to embark on a journey to one of his companies outside the country.

I was happy and at ease, knowing there's no one to question my movements or demand for homemade food in the earliest hours of the morning.

I had been eating on time, even going as far as relaxing on the couch in the living room while binge watching series of some movies.

Not having Xavier around, for like three days and counting, did me so many good. I took my time to finally have a tour of the gigantic mansion, of course with help, Kate showed me around and I must say, the house was a movie on its own.

Presently, I was sitted on the couch in the living room again, preparing to re-watch Lucifer. The guy was good food for my sore eyes, and I was shamelessly crushing on him. I mean, who wouldn't?

Just as I was about to be drowned in the movie, I remembered Blair, and for a split second I felt like she was in danger.

It was not making sense, Blair had been going on and on about how her and our parents status will change after she got married into the Kingston family.

She had even gotten rid of her whole wardrobe and got new sets of clothes, jewelries, shoes, bags, and even underwear, all which were limited edition, all in the name of wanting to be up to his taste.

She was the most excited about the business proposal, because it meant she would, in her words, 'get to live, dine, sleep and wake with the most talked about bachelor of the century.'

So, her eloping was a little too much for me to comprehend and it wasn't making any sense frankly speaking. A little too much because Blair was not to be underestimated.

For all I knew, she probably asked mum for something and it was not given to her. Then, she decided to go against them, even if it meant forsaking her crush on Xavier.

She was that spoilt. Once she did not get what she wanted, her next action was going against whatever they had planned or told her to do.

I couldn't even dream about going against any of their commands, that would be the day I'd be thrown out of the house. Letting out a sigh, I took a sip from the orange juice that Kate had earlier dropped on the table.

Some hours later, it was time for dinner. I proceeded to the dining area and settled to have my dinner, retiring to bed after I was done.

Seconds turned to minutes, minutes to hours, hours to days, days to weeks, and weeks to month. I had been alone in the house with Kate and Mrs. Miller for a month.

Xavier had not returned yet, and I was having mixed feelings and to make matters worse, I hadn't heard from him either.

On one hand, I was happy because no Xavier equalises with no maltreatment. On the other hand, I was the only one in the house. Kate and Mrs. Miller only came in the morning and left whenever their chores were done.

To say I was lonely was an understatement. I didn't think there was a movie I hadn't seen, or a TV show that aired that I had not seen. I was that bored and alone.

Not having anything to do, or going to work was beginning to tell on my body likewise. I had been sleeping a lot, since I had nothing to do.

This morning, I decided to go out of the house for the first time since I got married. I knew I'd probably be punished if Xavier got to know. But, there's no one to report my escapades to him.

I left the house in an attire fit for the weather. I had shorts and a tank top on, with my hair up in a messy bun. I took a stroll round the estate, though I wasn't able to see humans till I walked almost a mile from Xavier's mansion.

I walked aimlessly within the estate, till the sun began to come out. I checked the time on my smartwatch to see it was noon already.

Walking back to the house felt like eternity, since I was tired and hungry. Just as I walked through the gates, I spotted an unfamiliar car parked in front of the house.

Fear crept into me as I was not sure who it was. It could be Xavier, maybe he had returned from his trip, and that would be so bad, because he had a standing rule for me to always be outside waiting for him whenever he came back.

Though, I had no idea of when he'd be back from his trip, since I was not even informed when he left. His absence prior to the call he received, was what made me believe he left on a trip to one of his companies.

I took hesistant steps to the porch of the house, and walked in. Sitting regally on the couch was no other person than Mr. Kingston Snr. I had not seen him since the wedding.

He had a blank look on his face while he scrolled through the channels with the remote in his hands. It was only afte he got to a channel of his choice, did he recognise my presence.

"Oh, there you are. I thought you ran like every other woman in his life did." He snickered. I was at loss for words as I didn't know how to reply him. His words cut deeply through me and I realised what he had just spat out of his mouth.

I stood there, mouth agape whilst starring at him with shock on my face. How could he even say that about his own son? What other woman left Xavier before Blair did? All these ran through my head, while I was deciding how best to respond to his way of greeting.

"Mr. Kingston, good afternoon. It's been a long time, but I'm sorry, Xavier is not present at the moment." I managed to croak out.

"Of course I know that. You don't think my son would leave the country without informing me, like he didn't to you, I believe?" He mocked.

I won't lie, that hurt, but I shook it off my body because I had nothing to be pained about. The marriage was a business contract and would last only the duration of two years.

"No sir, but I thought to remind you since he's the only thing that could bring you here." I all but snapped at the man sitting down in my house acting all high and mighty.

"Wow, hold your horses. In case you forgot, Xavier is my son and this is his house. So, I have the right to be here. Not like, I have to explain myself to you, but there, I did it." He finished and dismissed me with a flick of his hands.

"So young lady, how about you be a good daughter-in-law and get me a cold fruit juice to relieve myself of the anger you're making me feel." All these whole time, he was still sitting down on the couch with his legs spread all over the place like he owned it. Technically, he did though, since it belonged to his wife.

I sighed and went to the kitchen to get him what he requested for. Kate and Mrs. Miller were not around today, being the weekend.

I got him his juice and tried to go wash off the sweat that glistened my body from the sun during the stroll I took earlier. Just as I was about to climb the stairs, Mr. Kingston's voice brought me to a halt.

"I want to believe you're not about to go up to your room, am I supposed to starve here? You're too dumb to be a wife to my son, and that's the main reason why we chose your sister in the first place". He said all these with a threatening smile plastered on his face.

He was daring me to speak up against him, for me to be riled up and misbehave.

But, I was not going to give him the satisfaction. I retraced my steps and entered the kitchen to cook up something for him. I made simple spaghetti and meatballs for him, then I proceeded to freshen up in my room.

I closed the door after me, stripped naked and got under the shower. After I was done, I took a towel from the rack and dried myself while at the same time stepping out of the bathroom.

I took short strides out of the bathroom and stepped fully into my room. Just as I was about releasing my towel off my body, I heard someone take a sharp intake of breath.

In fright, I secured the towel tightly around me and turned to find the unwelcomed human in my personal space. I was shocked to see Mr. Kingston at the entrance of my room, his legs crossed with a sickening smirk on his face and his hands in his pockets.

He didn't even try hiding it or act shameful that he had just been caught invading my privacy. I was irritated and angry, but after much contemplation, I resolved to just amble towards the door and lock it.

I marched there and tried shutting the door. Yep, he did it. He set his foot in between it and stopped me. The smirk not leaving his face, he leaned towards me and looked me up and down, with a sickening smile on his face.

"That's a sweet body you've got there. What do you say, I help my son, your husband in performing his duties, that I know he has been neglecting?" He licked his lips at the end of his statement.

I felt sick, I wanted to puke, my stomach was churning with irritation. This man should be thrown in the asylum because he was definitely insane. Even if, the marriage was a business proposal, I was still his son's wife, this was uttermost disrespect directed to his son.

With all the strength I could muster, I pushed the frame of his body off the door and hastily shut the door.

I didn't go downstairs till I heard the sound of his vehicle drive out of the mansion. Afterwards, I cleared off after him, the I did the dishes and cleaned the already neat furnitures.

Ensuing this, I consumed dinner and retired to bed, silently praying for Xavier to return home soonest. Not for me to be maltreatment again, but because I was so lonely, scared and oddly, his presence tends to fill the void.

Two weeks later, thanks to Kate, I was informed Xavier would be returning later that evening. I cleaned up, made dinner and sat in the living room, waiting for his return.

At exactly 6:30pm, I heard his car honk demanding for the gate to be opened. I rushed outside the door, prior to our, more like his, arrangement. I waited patiently till the car was parked, and he stepped out in all his glory.

I stood by the door with my head bowed till he got to me. Once his shadow fell upon me, I knew to acknowledge him so I wouldn't be punished.

"Master, good evening. How was the trip? Here, let me take the briefcase. Your food is in the kitchen, I can have it reheated if you want, and your bath is ready too." I rambled on and on, just to hide how nervous I was feeling.

He only dropped his briefcase in my hands, removed his ties and strode inside the house. No words said, not like I was expecting him to reply me. He looked stressed and drained, I could only hope whatever he went there for was successful.

Moving behind him, I took his case to his study and went back to reheat his food as he earlier requested. I set the table and without being told, stood beside him till he finished eating.

Still, he didn't utter a word, no scolding, no angry cursing, he only ate his food and got up from the dinning to the living room. Something had to be wrong.

I packed the plates, washed and dried them before leaving the kitchen. I went to where he was sat to find out if he needed any other thing before I went to bed.

Xavier sat on the couch with his legs up on the table, a posture I found amusing since both father and son loved it.

Talking about his father, I pondered on whether or not I should tell him about our little, but not so little situation. I felt Xavier should be informed and concerned since I was his wife, but I remembered it was all a business contract.

I didn't know I had just been standing there looking into space, his words brought me out of my reverie.

"I believe you have something to say, or why else are you standing in front of me shifting from one leg to the other?" He teased.

I hadn't even noticed that I was doing that, it only made my nervousness more obvious, "I'm sorry, Master. I just wanted to ask if that would be all for tonight before I go up to my room?"

He looked amused and for a split second, a ghost of smile graced his lips, but it vanished as soon as it appeared, the cold, distant, and forlorn look was back on his face. He cleared his throat and dropped his legs from the table. He clapsed his hands together and turned to face me.

"There's nothing for you to do for me. But, how about you tell me what you've been up to since I've been gone? Hmmm, how does that sound?" He patted the space next to me, signalling me to sit beside him.

I was too shocked to even take a step from where I stood, until he dragged me down to the couch. I sat there in silence because this was all new to me. My hands were folded and on my laps, I was nervously playing with my fingers, I could not even bring myself to look up from my laps.

I was waiting for his next line of action, which I rationally thought should be sending me away from his presence. I was proved wrong! His next words did the trick.

"Little one, I believed I asked to be told of your activities for the past two and a half months, didn't I?"

It was then I knew he was neither joking nor looking for means to punished me. He only craved something to soothe him from the stress he went through.

And so, I told him all I could remember only excluding the part where his father harassed me. I was certain he wouldn't believe me over his father even if I had told him.

Also, I was tempted to ask him what his father meant when he said, "all other women ran from him," but I managed to keep my mouth shut before the words on the tip of my tongue rolled out.

I was still speaking, till I heard soft snores and realised he had slept off, with his head thrown back on the couch. I ceased talking and got a blanket from his room to cover him up.

After making sure he was covered real well, I stood upright and stretched my body, a yawn making its escape from my mouth. Checking the time, I saw it was still early in the night, the time read 10:25pm.

Feeling soggy from alk the sweat and tired from all the cooking and cleaning I had done, I made my way upstairs and soon enough, I was in La, La, La, Land.
