C9 Chapter 9

Laura stand in front of her mirror for a long while trying to convince herself that she was doing the right thing. She love Avan and she is getting married to him so she is definitely making a right decision. She reassured herself and put on the dress she prepared for the day. Although Avan said only the both of them will be there she still bought a nice flowery gown and had her hairstylist make something simple yet elegant for her. She put on her make-up and left the house driving the car herself and tried calling Clara who is supposed to be with her but she has not been picking her calls.

After the company announced their collaboration with Chris's company and the news of her marriage with Avan went flying everywhere,the company has become stable which also assured her more that she made the right decision.

She tried calling Avan also to ask where he is but his phone is switched off which she find strange.

After driving for another thirty minutes, the car stopped in front of the marriage registrar office and she relaxed a little then made to call Avan when she saw Chris from a far in a cafe shop near where she is standing.

She has been trying to reach him to treat him to dinner but his secretary keep giving her excuses that he is out of the country but there he is having some coffee time. After helping her, she haven't been able to thank him properly and also keep the promise to do something for him in return instead of marriage.

She would have gone to him now but this is not the time, she has more pressing things to attend to. She tried calling Avan again when Clara showed up in front of her

"am sorry am late" she apologized. Laura immediately hugged her relieved

"do you have Avan's secretary number or his assistant. Have not been able to reach him" she complained to her

"actually, there is something I need to tell you. Why don't we go and talk in the car" Clara said and as they made to enter her car, the reporters suddenly surround them bombarding them with questions

"Miss Laura, is it true that your marriage with vice president Avan has been called off?"

"why are you here after releasing the news? Are you truly in a relationship with another person?"

"who is this new partner?"

"are you perhaps unaware and that's why are you here today?"

"can you please say something to clear the air? What exactly is the truth?" the reporters asked questions after questions making it difficult for them to get away from there. Laura was utterly shocked by what she just heard

"call off the marriage? What are they on about? She thought while Clara continue trying to get them away and enter the car safely.

Chris looked up from where he was sitting and saw a crowd gathering in front of the marriage registration office.

"she is probably married to him by now" he thought as he dropped the remaining coffee in his hand and put a call to the person he was waiting for.

After calling he again and he still has the same excuse of being in a traffic, he stood up angrily to leave and decide to walk towards the scene he saw, just then he his phone rang and it was Josh. He picked the call and Josh screamed in his ear

"i heard her wedding is canceled" he yelled

"check the news" he added before cutting the call. Chris went online not understanding a thing of what he said and saw the news about her marriage being fake news. He continue to read the posts surprised at why they are no more getting married then he looked up and heard the reporter's question guessing it must be Laura, he walk over calming and stood at the back

"you should get away from here, the young lady doesn't appreciate your presence" he said gently. The reporters turned towards him wondering who he is but seeing his daring and cold face they quiet down and move away from them a little. Laura finally manage to enter the car with Clara thanking Chris secretly in her heart though she felt a bit embarrass that he had to see her in that kind of situation after rejecting him years back and now, she quickly went online to check what happened and was shocked with the news she saw.

president Laura's marriage is fake…" just seeing the first topic and Laura could take a guess to what happened but what is still unclear is where Avan is. She is sure that her step brother must have done something so stupid like that and soon the comment online start to turn people against her and then the company was also discussed.

Her fears has finally come true, a part of her told her Avan might leave at the last minute to avoid getting married but she refuse to listen

She desperately dial Avan's number but it was still off when Clara suddenly grab the phone from her.

"we need to find a solution immediately" she said as she showed her the number of people who are trying to reach them

"is there a way we can get out of this place without anyone seeing us?" she asked although knowing the answer already

"reporters are everywhere and the exit must have been blocked. Whoever planned this must have planned it well to ensure we don't escape"

"am not going to believe anything till I see Avan and talk to him myself" she said still not convinced he would embarrass her this way

"the only thing we can do right now is to get him here and show everyone that we are right or you admit it and give your stepbrother a chance but we are not able to get hold of him leaving us with just one option"

"and that is?"

"you have to get married today"

Laura sighed heavily resting her head backwards and then her mind went back to Chris

"he must still be around here" she thought remembering that he helped her just now and looked around to see if she could catch a glimpse of him.

She sighted Chris among the crowd and her face lit-up without thinking about anything she dash out of the car and rush towards him with the reporter following after her then she grab his hand and face everyone

"am getting married to him" she said loud and clear leaving both the reporters and Chris shocked.
