C8 The dinner with my in-laws

Title: The dinner with my in-laws.

Today is another different day for me, a new week has begun and no day passed without a gift packaged infront of my doorstep, a gift from my soon to be in-laws.

I didn't know a wedding preparation could be this tedious as I was forced to go on a date, have fun which I don't enjoy with Rowan's friends, eat and invite friends and relatives for the wedding.

Another was being drag to church for classes which I had to wait everyday for my gracious fiance to show up. And today, i was gonna have dinner with my soon to be inlaws.

I walked slowly behind mom as we walked together into the compound. Looking around, I had to be reminded that this was when it all started, from the restaurant to this mansion.

"C'mon. Be fast"

Mom urged while i just rolled my eyes.

"If you can't smile, force it"

Isla whispered.

"It's not funny. I'm actually gonna get married to that ...dude"

"You should be lucky, girl" I sighed.

"I'm going into hell, babe. This is not how i planned my life"

"How did you plan your life?" She asked and i gulped down nothing. I don't really know how i planned my life, but was i planning not to get married?. A question that needs immediate answers. How long do i have to wait to get answers?.

We settled down after being offered seats by the maids. I nervously picked my fingers thinking of meeting the other members of the family. I bite my lower lip agitatedly but when Isla cold hand grabbed mine, I look up at her and felt a bit relaxed at her reassuring smile.

"This place looks...so huge"

Isla exclaimed.

"You could at least get a hold of yourself till we leave, Isla." Mom mumbled and i laughed.

"Finally , you're laughing"

Isla said amidst laughter.

"I'm so sorry, Mrs Cox. I was speaking to kadee and Finn on a video call"

We heard Mrs Adam says walking towards us with a smile.

"It's okay. We could wait all day"

Mom told her and i frowned. "Aww. How's the bride doing?" Mrs Adam comes closer and touched my cheek playfully, i smiled.

"By the way, let's move to the dinning."

"Zoe. You're not done?" Mrs Adam shouted from the dinning before sitting.

A beautiful lady with a protruding tummy approached us with a big stainless bowl of steamed chicken.

She dropped the bowl on the table and looked at me with a smile.

"She looks so beautiful, mother"

The lady said kissing my cheeks. I blushed and sniggered.

"So do you." I complimented with a smile.

"Aww. "

"So, is she your eldest daughter?" Mom asked Mrs Adam when she went back to the kitchen.

"No.She's zack's wife" She replied.

Zack has a wife, and an unborn child. I never expected that.

"Where is Rowan?" Mom questions while I eyed her.

"He should be here with my...oh here he is"

I lowered my head and heaved a sigh, ready to look at my...to look at Rowan.

"We almost ate without you"

Mrs Adam said taking up her cutleries.

As I looked up, I saw him approaching us with his phone pressed into his ear. A older man and Zack walked behind him.

"So..cute" Isla whispers and I eyed her.

"I'll call you later"

He hung up and kissed his mom's cheeks. He looked at me and i turned away and opened my plate of food.

"Wow. So much for us." His friend said and sit down. He looks at Mrs Adam. "Good evening, Mrs Irene Adam."

"Evening to you, Zack Elrod." He chuckles and our eyes met, he winks at me and i rolled my eyes.

"Good day, ma'am" Rowan greeted my mom. Atleast he was polite enough to greet.

"Same, dear" Mom replied.

Zoe walks in and fixes herself beside her husband. We started eating immediately.

"Well. We've fixed the date for the wedding" I almost choked when she said that. "Are you okay?. Aubrey" I looked up at Mrs Adam and nodded.

"So soon" Rowan chipped in.

"The sooner, the better. " Mom says looking into my eyes. Like she knows about it before now. I rolled my eyes and ate. I was expecting to hear Rowan speak but he kept mute like he isn't bothered.

"And it's in the third week of the next month"

"What?" I and Rowan exclaimed.

I looked at Rowan who had his mouth agape. I was glad we both were astonished at the news.

"Any problem?" She asked while my mom just laughed like she had won a lottery.

"It's too sudden" I confessed.

"Hunny. We can't delay it anymore. You two have got to get married soonest or it won't fall into the season we want it to happen" My mom looks at me.

Wait, getting married now has times for it.

Now she's sounding like a prophetess.

I returned my gaze to my food and chewed slowly.

"Are you not happy ?, Rowan"Mrs Adam asked him. These people should allow me eat in peace.

"Anything for you, mom" He replied.

We walked together at the garden without looking or speaking to each other. We were told to spend some time together and this is what we ended up doing.

"Uhm...mm. " He started and paused to look at me. "I don't want to do this." He blurts out suddenly. I stopped and looked at him.

"You and i knows we're not willing to do this,right?" He asked.

"Absolutely." I slowly replied.

"Well, the plan was to marry you for her, get her a grandchild and you know that."

My life was going into twist now, weeks ago, i was some random normal girl who worked for hours with her poor mother, now i was getting married to a rich man who i hated so much and now we were talking about giving birth. Keeping me as a house wife with his mother, is that the future my mom planned for me?.

"I'm at the loose end and you know that." I told him.

"You won't loose when you have prices attached."

"What do I get in return?" I asked keeping my hands in akimbo.

"Leave that to me."
