C7 The Wedding Date Is Set!
Wen couldn't help but clench her fists. Controlling her brother meant controlling her vulnerability.
Suddenly, a warm, reassuring hand rested on her shoulder. Startled, she looked up into a pair of deep, dark eyes. It was Liting, handing her a phone.
On the screen was a video call with her brother. Though his face was still pale, he seemed in good spirits, waving his little hand and smiling sweetly at her.
"Sis, when are you coming to see me? A nice guy picked me up this afternoon. It's great here, so don't worry about me!"
In an instant, Wen's worries eased. Liting had thought of everything, even taking care of her brother!
Meanwhile, Nanchen had lost his last card to play, his face drained of color.
"Zhe, get some rest. I'll be there soon."
After ending the call, Wen regained her confident demeanor.
"Nanchen, since you've repeatedly crossed the line, I won't hold back anymore!" Wen said coldly, pulling out her phone. She played an audio recording she had captured last night at the hotel for everyone to hear—
"Mr. Nanchen, aren't you afraid Wen will find out?"
"Afraid of what? She's on a business trip. Besides, it's not the first time. Why pretend to be so reserved?"
"I've spent two years with you, Nanchen. I got no recognition, no support, and every time we worked together, I was the one leading the charge. And what did I get in return? Betrayal from you and my best friend. I might let you off once, maybe twice, but remember this, Nanchen: I'm in a relationship with you, not here to be your doormat! I've had enough!" Ruanruan spoke with a cold, determined expression.
Each word she uttered seemed to crush the dignity of both Qi Wanwan and Nanchen underfoot.
For the first time, Liting saw this powerful side of Ruanruan. Her clarity and precision in speech only made him more impressed with her.
After listening to the entire recording, the elderly lady's face turned a shade of furious red. She swung her arm and slapped Nanchen hard across the face. "Shameful! Get out of here right now!"
Nanchen clutched his face and pulled Qi Wanwan away, but not before shooting a venomous glare at Ruanruan.
Once she calmed down, the elderly lady, with her frail steps, approached Ruanruan and grasped her hand with her thin, bony fingers.
"Dear, Nanchen was wrong to you, and as his grandmother, I apologize on his behalf. I don't understand all you young folks' affairs, but if you've decided to be with Liting, then cherish each other and aim to marry soon. Can you promise me that?"
The elderly woman had spent most of her life working hard and now watched anxiously as Liting approached his thirties without a close companion by his side. Her heart was troubled.
With a lifetime of experience, she trusted her judgment of people, and the young woman in front of her, Ruanruan, seemed like a good person.
Ruanruan was conflicted. Her relationship with Liting was just a facade, so how could she agree to anything without consulting him?
As she struggled with her thoughts, she suddenly felt her other hand being firmly grasped. Liting's deep, alluring voice resonated beside her—
"Don't worry, we've already discussed the wedding date. It's set for three months from now."
"???"
