The once bustling villa was suddenly deserted. Shi Qian picked herself up from the floor.
A bitter smile tugged at the corner of her mouth.
She knew that whether or not she had pushed Shi Muxue, Shi Yaorong would be convinced that she was to blame.
Shi Muxue was just a few months younger than her, born while her mother was pregnant and Shi Yaorong was having an affair with Soong Yuzhi.
Therefore, from her earliest memories until her mother's death, she had always been distant towards Shi Yaorong.
Shi Yaorong resented his mother's aloofness and, by extension, resented her as well.
Six years after her mother's death, Soong Yuzhi and her son moved in, and Shi Yaorong's disdain for her grew.
Thus, the incident merely provided Shi Yaorong with an excuse, an excuse to get rid of her.
The driver came upstairs, his demeanor as cold as Shi Qian's.
"Miss Shi, please pack your belongings so I can escort you out."
Shi Qian remained impassive, ignoring him.
When she showed no reaction, the driver reached out to grab her.
"Back off!" Shi Qian yelled, then dashed down the stairs and out of the villa.
On the street.
A piercing screech of brakes tore through the tranquil night.
Shi Qian felt herself become weightless as she was hurled through the air. Agonizing pain engulfed her limbs and body before she lost consciousness entirely.
Inside the car.
The young man with strikingly handsome features abruptly opened his eyes, a frown of displeasure creasing his forehead.
"What happened?" his deep, magnetic voice demanded.
The driver, peering ahead, cautiously replied, "Young Master, a young girl suddenly darted into the road and was struck by our car."
"Check on her."
"Yes, sir."
The driver quickly opened the door and rushed to Shi Qian's side.
He saw the girl lying in a pool of blood and checked for her breath.
Thankfully, she was still breathing.
On the European-style bed,
the girl's pale face was framed by her delicate eyelashes, which fluttered slightly.
Shi Qian's eyes opened slowly, taking in the unfamiliar surroundings.
She dimly recalled being hit by a car after fleeing the villa, and miraculously, she had survived.
Where am I?
"You're awake?"
A deep yet soothing male voice reached her ears.
Shi Qian swiftly turned to locate the source of the voice.
A young man was seated on the single sofa in the corner.
He appeared to be in his early twenties, with a cool demeanor, and his strikingly handsome face could be described as breathtakingly beautiful.
Shi Qian was momentarily spellbound, forgetting she was in an unfamiliar place, astonished that such an attractive person could exist in the world.
This couldn’t be heaven, could it?
Shaang Sizhan's dark, profound eyes fixed on her, and he spoke with a slight parting of his lips, "Rest assured, you're not dead."
Regaining her composure, Shi Qian sat up, clutching the blanket. She looked at him and inquired, "Was it you who hit me?"
Just then, the door opened.
A young man, resembling a butler, entered with a document in hand and approached Shaang Sizhan, reporting, "Young Master, the examination results are in. Aside from a minor external injury, there are no issues."
Shaang Sizhan briefly scanned the document before returning his gaze to Shi Qian. "You're fine. I'll arrange for someone to take you home shortly."
Take her home!
Shi Qian's thoughts turned to Shi Yaorong's cold indifference and the theatrical antics of Soong Yuzhi and her daughter. She had lost all hope for that so-called home and couldn't bear the thought of facing them again.
Gazing at Shaang Sizhan's extraordinary visage, she bit her lip and blurted out, "I have no home! You were the one who ran into me, you need to... take responsibility for me."
Upon hearing her words, an enigmatic expression flickered in Shaang Sizhan's deep-set eyes. He watched the girl for a brief moment, and then, with a subtle twitch of his lips, a cryptic smile emerged.
