C49 Begging!
Shi Muxue had been restless for the last couple of days.
She fretted over the possibility of Shi Qian connecting with someone influential and feared her return to the Shi family.
Shi Qian, however, ignored her and turned to leave in search of someone else.
But Shi Muxue couldn't resist taunting her, a hint of pride and mockery in her voice, "This Saturday is my birthday. Mom and Dad are throwing me a party at the hotel, and they've even got gifts and surprises lined up for me.
Sis, will you be there?"
Shi Qian gave her a fleeting, indifferent glance, then walked away.
Such words no longer had the power to sting her; she had long stopped caring.
Watching Shi Qian walk away, Shi Muxue's lips twisted into a smirk.
Getting a rise out of Shi Qian was her kind of entertainment.
Shi Qian had barely taken a few steps when she heard Wen Yiran's voice from behind, "Shi Qian."
Upon hearing it,
Shi Qian turned to face Wen Yiran, ready to confront her about any harm she might have caused Wen Ke'er. But the sight of Wen Yiran stopped her cold.
Wen Yiran looked disheveled and battered, with a bruise on her lip, clearly indicating she had been struck.
Shi Muxue watched in astonishment as the disheveled Wen Yiran appeared out of nowhere, wondering how she had ended up in such a state.
Wen Yiran's next move was even more startling!
She rushed to Shi Qian and knelt before her, her voice hoarse with a tinge of desperation, "Shi Qian, I was wrong. Please, spare me and my family. I'll do anything you ask, even vanish from your sight forever. Just please, don't be so merciless."
The dramatic scene quickly drew a crowd of onlookers, their curiosity piqued.
"What in the world is happening? Am I seeing things?"
"Why is Wen Yiran kneeling before Shi Qian?"
"Did you see Wen Yiran's face? It looks like she's been hit. Could Shi Qian be responsible?"
"Even if Shi Qian was the one who hit her, Wen Yiran's status surely wouldn't allow her to kneel to Shi Qian. Is she really that meek?"
"What on earth is happening here?"
Shi Qian looked down at Wen Yiran, who was kneeling before her, her eyes brimming with confusion. "What are you talking about?"
Wen Yiran met her gaze and spoke again, her voice breaking with emotion, "I realize now that those people were defending you, and I admit my mistake. The support you have is formidable; the Wen family, even a hundred times over, couldn't stand against it.
But it was me who wronged you. I'm only asking that you spare the Wen family company and everyone else involved. Aren't you close with Wen Ke'er? If the Wen family goes down, she'll be even worse off!
She would rather face ruin than come begging to you, putting you in a tough spot. Can you truly stand by and watch her go down with us?"
The Wen family is doomed!
Shi Qian's brow furrowed slightly as she regarded Wen Yiran. "Get up and explain yourself. What exactly happened?"
Wen Yiran gave a mournful smile, clearly not convinced that Shi Qian was oblivious to the situation.
She spoke again, her voice laced with a resolve as if prepared for the worst, "Shi Qian, just tell me what it will take to spare the Wen family. I'll do whatever is necessary."
Shi Qian regarded Wen Yiran and then something clicked. She asked, "You're the one who posted that photo online, aren't you?"
Wen Yiran remained silent, but her expression confirmed the truth.
Now, Shi Qian seemed to grasp the full picture.
It must have been Wen Yiran who uploaded the photo of her driving Jiang Ci's sports car to the internet and smeared her name. Jiang Ci must have seen it and retaliated against the Wen family.
That explained why Jiang Ci had called her out of the blue on Saturday, inquiring if she had seen any gossip news.
It wasn't just idle gossip; it was the content that Wen Yiran had used to mock her.
Jiang Ci was not someone to be taken lightly. With the influence of the Jiang family's second son, what chance did the modest Wen family have?
Despite Wen Yiran's faults, Wen Ke'er and the other members of the Wen family were innocent. Shi Qian decided not to engage with Wen Yiran any further, turned on her heel, and walked away, pulling out her phone as she did so.
