C6 Which Qiao An??
Qiao Minghui's gaze held a sense of inevitability as he casually sipped his tea. "Alright, Young Master Huo will be here shortly to escort you to register your marriage. Find a way to conceal that mark on your face. I trust you don't need me to remind you of what to say and do, correct?"
Qiao An simply inquired, "What about my belongings?"
"You'll get them when you come back in three days," Minghui replied before standing up. His eyes briefly rested on Zhou Yun and Qiao Xue with a hint of warning, as if to discourage any further trouble.
After all, marrying into the Huo family demanded a certain level of decorum, even if it was to the least favored Second Young Master.
Zhou Yun's lips tightened in displeasure. She couldn't resort to physical confrontation, but she saw no harm in speaking her mind.
Catching Zhou Yun's cue, Qiao Xue let out a soft chuckle. "I thought you were so unyielding, but you caved so easily... It seems Qiao An will always be left with my hand-me-downs, even when it comes to men that I, Qiao Xue, have rejected!"
Qiao An retorted with a cold laugh, "But aren't you, Qiao Xue, left with the man I've already discarded?"
Qiao Xue felt a surge of anger. "What the hell are you saying? Haoyan has always loved me, from the very start!"
"Then why the rush?" Qiao An's icy gaze pierced through, "Feeling guilty, perhaps? Worried that when he's most passionate, he's calling out my name?"
"You're spouting nonsense! Moo Haoyan himself said that in the four years he was with you, he never laid a finger on you!"
"Indeed," Qiao An's eyebrows arched gracefully. "So what's there to be proud of? Proud that he jumped into bed with you as soon as you two got together? Is that what true love means to you—just sleeping together?"
Qiao Xue lunged towards Qiao An, her anger palpable, but Zhou Yun caught her in time. "Xue'er, don't sully your feet by kicking her. Let's strike her where it hurts. Just wait until you and Haoyan announce your engagement; we'll see who has the last laugh then."
Qiao Xue huffed as she plopped back onto the sofa, smoothing out her clothes. "Yes, I almost forgot. My dear sister is about to take my place in marrying that disabled Second Young Master from the Huo family. Congratulations indeed!"
Qiao An rose gracefully, adjusting her own attire. "I won't interrupt your pleasure. I'll wait outside."
With those words, Qiao An turned and left, her stride confident, her posture proud. Having accepted their terms, she no longer had any reason to indulge them.
Watching her spirited departure, Qiao Xue seethed with rage. She had won the battle, yet Qiao An still carried herself with the pride of a peacock! How dare she!
In a fit of fury, Qiao Xue grabbed a cushion from the sofa and hurled it, hitting Qiao An squarely in the back. Her voice followed, shrill and hysterical, "Get out!"
Meanwhile, at the Bamboo Listening Pavilion, Huo Chengzhou was lounging on the couch when Huo Feng burst in. "Mr. Cheng, the Qiao family has consented to the marriage."
Without opening his eyes, Huo Chengzhou replied, "And why are you so excited?"
"I'm not excited! I'm concerned for you," Huo Feng retorted, taking a seat and pouring himself some tea. After a few gulps, he continued, "The Qiao family has agreed to send their eldest daughter, Qiao An, as the bride..."
Huo Feng paused, casting a cautious glance at Huo Chengzhou. "I've heard her eyesight isn't great."
"Qiao An?" Huo Chengzhou's eyelids flickered open. "Which Qiao An?"
"The eldest daughter of the Qiao family. Apparently, she's an adopted child," Huo Feng remarked with a click of his tongue. "Minghui has some nerve, allowing such a person to marry into the Huo family. If it turns out..."
"Is her eyesight just poor, or is she completely blind?" Huo Chengzhou interjected abruptly.
