C1 Avenge Your Father And I

In the peak of sunset, a frail, little boy stands outside the front yard of a cottage with his brother by his side. He whistles loudly with a witty smile on his face waiting for a response and he eventually gets one. The little blonde girl in the cottage pokes her head from the window and her blue eyes light up at the sight of him. His brother on the other hand has a grimace of irritation on his face whilst he gazes at her.

It doesn't take long before the little girl comes swaying her purple dress side by side as she runs to the both of them. "Fredrick did you bring the bow," she asks gaily.

"I did, but I couldn't get enough arrows," he says, reaching out for the arrow strapped to his back.

"Come on. What's the point of using the arrows for fruits when we can use them to hunt instead" Lucan grumbles at his side.

"Father says we should never hurt the animals. They are a blessing to us from the moon goddess" Fredrick cautions, causing Lucan to scowl in disapproval.

"Let's go" Amaya, holds little Fredrick by the hand, dragging him into the woods. "I have until dusk before my mother wakes up" she shouts while they chase after her.

" Look I found durians" Lucan calls out behind them.

They both swerve to look at him in skepticism. Fredrick is the first to run off while Amaya trails from behind, but before she gets far, Lucan grabs her by the hand, pulling her away.

"Hey! let go" she shouts at him, wiggling her hands from his faint grip.

She is about to bolt off again when Lucan stops her. "There are no durians"

She frowns at him"You tricked him"

"He is a liar. Father never said we shouldn't hunt for animals" he speaks, regarding Fredrick's earlier statement.

"No, he's not lying. My mother says the same thing. We can hunt, but not hurt them" she explains.

He shrugs and says nothing as he takes an arrow from his bag and steadies it on the bow. He aims, for a tree in front of him, but misses.

"Fredrick will always be a better archer than you" she mutters with folded arms.

Lucan turns to her, settling the bow back on his shoulder. "When I become king, I won't need a bow to make a powerful one"

"Who says you would be king?"

"Leadership is meant for the strongest. That's what uncle Loki says"

Amaya parts her lips to speak, but the sound of footsteps behind distracts her. It is Fredrick with a disgruntled look on his face.

"No durians" he speaks, resting his hands on his legs while he pants.

"Come let's go find other fruits " she holds Fredrick by the hand not after giving Lucan a frown.

They are about to go deeper into the woods when Amaya hears her mother's call and they all freeze with widened eyes.

"Oh no," she exclaims.

"I thought she was asleep" Fredrick looks at Amaya.

"I thought so too. I need to go now" she says as she grabs her dress and takes to her heels.

"See you tomorrow " Fredrick shouts behind her, but she doesn't turn to look at him

Amaya runs through the woods until she gets back to the cottage where her mother stands with her hands akimbo. The worried look on her mother's pale face changes into a frown when she sees Amaya.

"Amaya what in the world were you doing in the woods again," she asks in dismay as Amaya walks towards the cottage, playing with her fingers remorsefully.

"I was..."

"You were with those royals again, weren't you?" Her mother frowns at her, displeased.

"but why can't I play with them mama," she asks in wonder, looking up at her mother who stoops to her level and cups her chin.

"Because they are too evil for your pure heart," her mother says with saddened eyes."Now let's go inside" she taps Amaya slightly on the cheeks.

******

Amaya wakes up to her mother's consistent nudge. She flicks her weary eyes open and they settle on her distressed mother's.

"Amaya" she whispers out of fear.

Little Amaya is confused as she gets up fully. She has never seen her mother so scared before. "Mum what is it?"

"We must leave my child" her mother stands and straps a clothe bag on perplexed Amaya.

"Why are we leaving?" Amaya follows her mother who struggles to stack as many resources as possible for the two of them.

"The royals have found out we are still alive. We need to leave this Kingdom" her mother says to her in trepidation

"But I can't leave," Amaya cries in a shaky tone. "I have friends here"

"Those royals can never be your friend" her mother rebukes, strapping her bag by her back.

She holds Amaya's hand as they make it out through the backdoor. The sounds of chant, horse galloping, and growls from shifted wolves can be heard at the front. At this point Amaya is terrified, but her mother appears otherwise. They run as fast as they could through the woods with Amaya having to bear the weight of the load on her back.

When Frey, Amaya's mother realizes they aren't going to go far because the shifted royals were slowly catching up with them , she pulls Amaya to the corner and bends to her level as her blue eyes peer into her daughter's. "Now listen my child. You are a Windsor. You will always be a Windsor. Wear it like armor. Your father was killed for that name. They stripped his throne away from him. I won't let them take you too. Run as fast as you can. Run straight, follow the moon. The moon goddess will guide you. When you get to the next kingdom, Alando. You can ask of my brother Armani. He is the alpha of the wind winder pack. He will take you in" her mother breaks off as tears well up in her eyes. This is too much for an 8-year-old, but Frey has no other choice.

"I pray you get your wolf unlike me," she says in a shaky tone. "When you get your wolf, remember to avenge your father and I. "

Amaya nods in fear and her mother cups her chin. "Be strong my child. The moon goddess will guide you" she pauses, bowing her head while sobbing. "Run," she says not able to look her daughter in the eye.

Amaya is hesitant, but her mother slaps her across the face as hard as possible. "Run now child!" She yells at Amaya.

Amaya is scared but runs as quickly as her legs can carry her. She hasn't gotten far when she hears her mother's scream. A huge lump takes place In Amaya's throat as she suppresses the notion to cry. Her weak legs resume running nevertheless. She runs until she finally sees hope.
