C2 Domineering Rejection of Marriage

Wen Wan stepped out of the front courtyard and bumped into someone. She looked up and was met with an astonishingly beautiful face—it was none other than Wen Xian!

Wen Xian was the adopted daughter of the Wen family. In a past life, she had hidden her true nature behind an innocent facade, conspiring with Su Xuanjing to bring down the South Control Marquis Mansion. She had even bribed Wen Wan's maid, Yindieh, to incite Su Xuanjing to gouge out Wen Wan's eyes, imprison her in a cellar, and torment her to death.

Hatred flickered in Wen Wan's eyes. In this life, she would not be deceived by Wen Xian's appearance again.

"Big sister, where are you rushing off to?" Wen Xian asked.

To outsiders, Wen Xian always appeared gentle and considerate, but beneath that exterior lay a heart as venomous as a snake's. Wen Wan clenched her fists, knowing she had more pressing matters to attend to. The blood debt between them would be settled eventually.

Wen Wan stepped aside, bypassed Wen Xian, and strode out of the mansion.

...

In the heart of the city, on Vermilion Bird Street.

"Run! Someone's been killed!"

By the time Wen Wan arrived, chaos had already erupted. Panicked pedestrians were fleeing in all directions, nearly colliding with her.

"Who was killed? Who did it?" Wen Wan urgently grabbed someone, her anxiety evident as she asked.

"Miss, don't go any further! Several people have already died up ahead! Run!" The man shook off Wen Wan and fled in panic.

Wen Wan felt a wave of dizziness and nearly fainted. Was she too late after all?

She had rushed here because, on this day in her past life, her youngest uncle had killed a notorious bully. That bully's brother later became a close ally of Su Xuanjing. Together, they caught the South Control Marquis Mansion completely off guard.

Her mission today was to change that outcome.

At that moment, a figure in the crowd brushed past Wen Wan and suddenly stopped, his blood running cold. Beneath the wide-brimmed hat, the man's face was sharply defined, with eyebrows like swords and eyes that held a distant, unapproachable chill.

It was her! He would never mistake her.

In his past life, he had rushed back day and night from Shuocheng for this woman named Wen Wan. He had heard of her tragic fate—her eyes gouged out, limbs severed, a life worse than death. He had traveled thousands of miles to save her, only to walk into a trap set by Su Xuanjing.

It was her most trusted maid, Yindieh, who led him into the ambush, where he was pierced by countless arrows.

"I want to see her, one last time."

"But she doesn't want to see you."

Yesterday is dead, like yesterday. Today is born, like today.

At the end of the long street, Wen Wan suddenly stopped.

She saw Xiao Chen.

Xiao Chen, the seventh prince of the dynasty, came from humble beginnings. Though he was the least favored prince, he shared a unique bond with her Youngest Uncle. Their relationship was anything but ordinary.

The year she married Su Xuanjing, Xiao Chen requested to be stationed at Shuocheng by the Ministry of War, and he stayed there for ten years.

As the commander of Shuocheng for a decade, he earned the title of the Wolf of the North. She often overheard Su Xuanjing mentioning, almost casually, how Xiao Chen held significant influence in the northern territories, which made the Emperor uneasy.

She never imagined she would meet him again in this lifetime.

By the time she snapped back to reality, the bully had already been killed.

Yet Wen Wan felt no sympathy, for that bully had insulted innocent women and was rightfully punished by a righteous person. Justice was served!

But her Youngest Uncle didn’t show up!

In other words, her Youngest Uncle wasn’t drawn into this mess. Still, Wen Wan didn’t let her guard down and only returned home at sunset.

From the shadows, Su Xuanjing, dressed in white, stepped out slowly, his deep eyes fixed on Wen Wan.
