C8 He Was Flirted with

As Jiang Lili's teasing gaze met his, Lin Chen was momentarily baffled.

Why did it feel like he was being flirted with?

But her point was valid.

After a moment's thought, Lin Chen dutifully called her "Sister Li."

Jiang Lili's laughter shook the room:

"Aw, good boy!"

Now Lin Chen was even more perplexed.

Why was she laughing? What was so funny?

Lin Chen's bewildered and adorable look only amused Jiang Lili more, but she knew when to draw the line.

Then her phone rang.

She answered immediately, responding with a couple of "Mhm" and "Okay," before hanging up.

Looking at Lin Chen with a hint of regret, she said:

"Little bro, I've got an unexpected meeting at work and need to head out. Can I come hang out with you again next time?"

"Sure."

Lin Chen nodded and escorted Jiang Lili to the door.

After she left, Lin Chen freshened up and stretched out on his plush, comfy bed, soon drifting off to sleep.

The next morning, Lin Chen woke to a flurry of messages from Soong Qingwan.

Soong Qingwan: Thanks a ton for walking me home yesterday!

...

The adorable emojis couldn't help but draw a chuckle from Lin Chen.

After a brief exchange, he set his phone aside.

That evening, Lin Chen headed straight for the academic building.

Soong Qingwan had reminded him that there was a class meeting today to select class officers.

Though Lin Chen wasn't keen on the idea of being a class officer, it was his first meeting since enrollment, and attendance was a must.

Following the electronic map Soong Qingwan had sent, Lin Chen quickly located his classroom.

It was no surprise that the Chinese department was brimming with girls; he hardly saw any boys on his way.

Arriving late, Lin Chen found the classroom nearly full and took an available seat.

Settling in, he caught the delicate scent of jasmine, a subtle blend with the natural fragrance of a young woman, and it was quite pleasant.

As Lin Chen took his seat, the girl next to him stiffened for a split second, subtly shifting away without a sound.

Lin Chen caught the slight movement and offered a friendly greeting:

"Hi there, I'm Lin Chen. What's your name?"

She gave Lin Chen a quick look before averting her eyes.

"Su, Su Mo."

She was strikingly pretty, with a doll-like face and delicate features, her long eyelashes fluttering beneath her bangs.

Lin Chen quirked an eyebrow:

"Mo, as in jasmine?"

She nodded, her response silent, her ears blushing a soft pink.

Lin Chen was genuinely surprised; shy girls like her seemed to be a rarity these days.

Most girls he knew would not only get a dirty joke but could fire back with one even raunchier.

Driven by a flicker of curiosity, Su Mo stole another glance at Lin Chen:

"How did you know?"

Lin Chen replied with an easy smile:

"Your scent, it's like jasmine flowers."

Su Mo paused, taken aback.

Just then, Lin Chen chuckled, his eyes landing on the student card on her desk.

"You left your student card out, it's got your name on it."

Quickly, Su Mo tucked her student card away, about to speak, when the acting class teacher walked in.

At East Sea University, it was customary to appoint an acting class teacher to each freshman class for a month, usually an upperclassman from the same department.

Lin Chen's class was assigned a scholarly senior with black-rimmed glasses.

After the acting teacher's introductory speech, the floor opened for class cadre elections, where students freely campaigned and voted.

Currently, it was the turn for the Youth League Committee elections, with a girl pitching her candidacy onstage.

Lin Chen found it somewhat dull.

Scanning the room, he noticed most classmates were engrossed in their phones.

Then, a pen dropped with a "clatter," drawing Lin Chen's gaze downward. As Su Mo bent to retrieve it, their eyes met.
