C19 The Murder Caused by the Menstruation!
"How would I know? He's not dead, is he?" Dan Hengyao always spoke with a dismissive flippancy. By saving Ruan Ruan, he had done enough to show respect to Dan Hengmo. Was he now expected to take care of her injuries as well?
He was actually quite willing, but he wasn't sure if Dan Hengmo would appreciate it.
Dan Hengmo's fist connected with Dan Hengyao's face with such force that when Dan Hengyao hit the ground, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth, the strength behind the punch was unmistakable.
Dan Hengmo's assault was swift and brutal. Before Hengyao could even react, another kick from Hengmo sent a bone-crunching sound echoing through the air.
Dan Hengmo was merciless, targeting Hengyao's most vulnerable spots with precision, leaving him with no chance to fight back.
By the time Qin Yu and his group arrived, Dan Hengyao had been beaten to a pulp by Dan Hengmo. This wasn't the first time Qin Yu had witnessed such a beating, but it was certainly the most severe he'd ever seen Dan Hengmo dish out to Hengyao.
Peering through the car window, Qin Yu spotted Ruan Ruan and instructed the attractive doctor, Shangguan Jing, to assess her injuries.
Given the ferocity with which Master Hengmo had attacked Dan Hengyao, Qin Yu surmised that Ruan Ruan must have been hurt, possibly even her virtue compromised.
Shangguan Jing opened the car door to examine Ruan Ruan, whose body was marred with numerous bruises, clearly inflicted by someone else, though none appeared life-threatening.
The stark redness between her legs drew Shangguan Jing's attention. Could it be that this woman had been...
Upon arrival, having seen the thugs laid out by Dan Hengyao, Shangguan Jing had a good idea of what had transpired.
"Jing, how is she doing?" Qin Yu found it difficult to watch Dan Hengyao take a beating. Even though he was aware of Master Hengmo's cold-blooded nature, it was the first time he'd witnessed him deal such a harsh blow to his own brother.
Shangguan Jing didn't respond to Qin Yu; instead, she meticulously examined Ruan Ruan.
After the examination, Shangguan Jing dressed Ruan Ruan in Dan Hengmo's clothes and stepped out of the car.
Qin Yu approached and inquired, "How is she? Is Miss Ruan all right?" If something were wrong, Dan Hengmo might very well kill Dan Hengyao.
"There's nothing wrong," Shangguan Jing replied, her voice detached.
Upon hearing Shangguan Jing's assurance, Dan Hengmo ceased his assault. By then, Dan Hengyao was battered and bruised, but Dan Hengmo had stopped short of inflicting lethal harm.
"I said she was fine; you didn't believe me," Dan Hengyao mumbled, his speech slurred. Qin Yu strained to understand him.
As for Dan Hengyao, Qin Yu had only one word to describe him: troublemaker. Whenever Master Hengmo showed the slightest affection or interest in a woman, Dan Hengyao would inevitably stir up trouble. Yet Master Hengmo never truly cared for these women, simply tolerating his brother's antics. This time, however, Dan Hengyao had really stirred up a hornet's nest.
"Master Hengmo," Qin Yu and Shangguan Jing called out as they saw Dan Hengmo approaching.
"You said she's fine," Dan Hengmo stated, his expression icy, a chilling aura emanating from him. His commanding presence was palpable, like the grim reaper emerging from the shadows.
Shangguan Jing nodded and explained, "Miss Ruan's bruises are not severe. The blood between her legs is simply due to her menstrual cycle."
"Are you certain nothing else is amiss?" Dan Hengmo's anger subsided.
"Miss Ruan was merely frightened, and the punch she received caused her to faint," Shangguan Jing clarified.
Dan Hengmo ordered his men to remove the thugs from the scene and directed Qin Yu to take Dan Hengyao to the hospital.
He harbored no regrets about teaching Dan Hengyao a harsh lesson. Had he not disciplined him today, Hengyao would have continued to harass Ruan Ruan. And if he hadn't incapacitated the man sent to protect her, Ruan Ruan wouldn't have endured such hardships.
Dan Hengmo's gaze darkened with a predatory gleam as he looked at Ruan Ruan's bruised face. Shi Xuerong must have truly believed this woman lacked any protection.
Upon returning to Ruan Ruan's home, Dan Hengmo bathed her and tenderly applied the ointment Shangguan Jing had provided to the bruises marring her body.
"From now on, I'll protect you myself. I step out for just a moment, and you find yourself in such a mess. You really are a handful," Dan Hengmo said, his voice dripping with affection he seemed unaware of, his eyes soft with adoration.
In her sleep, Ruan Ruan's brow furrowed as if she were trapped in a nightmare. Dan Hengmo cradled her in his arms, gently patting her back in a soothing rhythm, reminiscent of how his mother comforted him when he was a child.
Ruan Ruan slept through to the next morning. Upon waking, she stared blankly at the ceiling, hoping the events of the previous day were just a dream. Surely, she hadn't been brought back by Shi Xuerong.
A sudden, excruciating pain in her stomach seized her. Could it be that she really had been...
Biting back the pain, Ruan Ruan rose from her bed. The wounds Dan Hengmo had treated were still far from healed, and the pain lingered.
She had never contemplated revenge against Shi Xuerong and Yuh Jinnian for their betrayal. But now, revenge was all she could think about—she even harbored thoughts of killing Shi Xuerong.
Ruan Ruan dashed to the kitchen, seized a chef's knife, and fixated on a single goal: to end Shi Xuerong's life. The potential repercussions no longer mattered to her.
Breathing was a struggle. The mere memory of those vile individuals and her past encounters with them filled her with such revulsion she wished for death. She questioned why she hadn't perished, why she continued to live bearing such disgrace.
Dan Hengmo watched as Ruan Ruan bolted into the kitchen and emerged with a kitchen knife, the intensity of hatred in her eyes unmistakable.
"What's going on?" Dan Hengmo approached Ruan Ruan, his heart wrenching at the sight of her. Her eyes were bloodshot, brimming with tears, and her pale face was nearly translucent.
Without a word, Ruan Ruan headed for the door, knife in hand.
Dan Hengmo wrapped his arms around Ruan Ruan from behind as she began to howl. Her cries were laced with despair, echoing the hopelessness of a child lost in the darkness of night.
"I'm going to kill Shi Xuerong. Let go of me!" Ruan Ruan yelled, struggling against his grip.
Dan Hengmo wrested the knife from Ruan Ruan's grasp and pulled her close to his chest, saying, "Going like this, you won't get to see her."
"I have to kill her, I must do it today," Ruan Ruan insisted, shoving Dan Hengmo away as she continued to scream, tears streaming down her face.
"I need to be the one to end her life." After her outburst, Ruan Ruan crouched down to retrieve the kitchen knife that Dan Hengmo had discarded on the floor.
Dan Hengmo squatted to meet her gaze, his handsome face etched with concern. He gently touched her shoulders, but she pushed him away, yelling for Dan Hengmo not to touch her.
Dan Hengmo was not one to back down. The more Ruan Ruan resisted, the more firmly he held her.
