C14 Decision
Hsu Moyan's refusal was expected by Gu Yifan, yet she still found herself at a loss for what she could offer in exchange for even a slim chance of survival for the radio station.
In the past couple of days, the turmoil at the station had been more severe than when the previous host resigned. Gu Yifan was adamant about not accepting any buyout, regardless of the price. In response, Hsu Moyan used other means to have all her radio programs taken off the air, leaving the station with no income whatsoever. Even the sponsors pulled their ads.
Breach of contract? No problem, Hsu's Group had the money to cover it.
Everything Hsu Moyan did left Gu Yifan facing a desolate station, unsure of what to do. She wondered what she had done in a past life to deserve such torment in this one. Wasn't her mother supposed to be watching over her? Did her mother leave with only resentment for Gu Changsheng and none of the love she had for her?
She felt abandoned. Alone.
At the Hsu's Group board meeting, Hsu Moyan sat at the head of the table, watching the shareholders split into three factions: two opposing sides and one that remained neutral, occasionally throwing in a jab.
"These old-timers don't understand the market, yet they argue pointlessly," he thought.
"Zuo Xiuran must sign with our company! You have no idea what a creative artist like him represents! He brings a completely different style that could create a new genre. This is a huge leap forward for the entertainment division of Hsu's Group. Therefore, Zuo Xiuran must sign with us!"
The third-largest shareholder of the Hsu's Group, Hong He, slammed the table, his face flushed with anger. Meanwhile, the second-largest shareholder, Tianhua Zhai, calmly watched Hong He’s outburst, leisurely smoking a cigarette. He exhaled a smoke ring and slowly said, “Sure, Zuo Xiuran is a creative singer, but his scandals are endless. If he joins the company, not only do we have to give him the freedom he craves as a so-called creative artist, but we also have to constantly clean up after him. Our company is focused on growth, not on babysitting these reckless kids.”
“Don’t you realize that if Zuo Xiuran joins a rival company, it could seriously hinder our development in the music industry?” Hong He retorted, exasperated. He couldn’t believe Tianhua Zhai was rejecting Zuo Xiuran for such an absurd reason.
In the entertainment industry, no one can really be as pure as a fish in clear water! Without exposure and buzz, how can you gain attention?
Zuo Xiuran naturally generates buzz. If he joins Hsu's Group, he could not only boost the music sector but also other hidden industries. Whenever he casually shows off a product he uses, it becomes a hit!
With Zuo Xiuran, just handling some tabloid news could bring us immense benefits. There are plenty of people eager to help him out!
"As long as I'm here, I will never allow Zuo Xiuran into Hsu's Company!" Zhai Tianhua declared firmly.
"You're just being stubborn!" He Hong rolled up his sleeves, almost ready to confront Zhai Tianhua.
Zhai Tianhua sat steadily, not moving an inch.
"Does Chairman Zhai think Hsu's artists can hold up the sky on their own?" Hsu Moyan tapped the table, asking slowly.
Facing Hsu Moyan's emotionless threat, Zhai Tianhua pondered for a moment before replying in a different tone, "Hsu's has a lot going on lately. Adding someone like Zuo Xiuran, with all his scandals, would damage our image. I'm thinking about Hsu's future!"
"Oh?" Hsu Moyan sounded slightly surprised. "It's commendable that Chairman Zhai is so concerned about Hsu's."
"What... what do you mean by that?" Zhai Tianhua, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, jumped up and angrily accused, "We call you Acting Chairman, but don't think you're the real chairman. As long as Chairman Hsu Yihuai is absent, I'm the senior director. How dare you disrespect me like this."
"Respect is earned," Hsu Moyan glanced at Zhai Tianhua's displeased expression and made a decision. "Tomorrow, I'll send someone to bring Zuo Xiuran. You all can discuss who will mentor him, but it must be someone experienced."
As for the experience, it goes without saying.
After the meeting ended, Moyan returned to his office, gazing down at the bustling streets below, lost in thought.
"Knock, knock."
The office door suddenly opened, and the secretary walked in with Jieyu, who was carrying a thermos.
Jieyu had clearly put a lot of effort into her appearance today. Her pink dress made her skin look radiant, and the delicate fringe on her shoulders caught the eye with every step she took. The dress was cinched at the waist, highlighting her slender figure. Not to mention, the pink anklet with tiny diamonds on her exposed ankle was dazzling, and her elegant feet were hard to ignore.
Jieyu was pleased with her outfit, and her slight shyness as she entered was perfectly timed.
Unfortunately, Moyan just frowned and looked at the secretary, reprimanding, "Didn't I say everyone needs to make an appointment to see me?"
The secretary was taken aback. Wasn't this the CEO's wife? He'd never heard of spouses needing appointments to meet.
Jieyu bit her lip, feeling wronged, and said, "Moyan, don't blame Secretary Zhang. I asked him to bring me in."
Secretary Zhang looked gratefully at Jieyu. The CEO's wife was truly kind, but it was a shame the CEO didn't appreciate it.
Moyan gave Secretary Zhang a long, hard look and waved his hand dismissively. "You can go now. Make another mistake like this, and you're out."
Secretary Zhang, feeling as if he'd been granted a reprieve, quickly left the office.
"Moyan, you haven't been home for days. I made some chicken soup to help you recharge," Jieyu said softly as she gracefully approached Moyan's desk. She set the thermos down and noticed a file on the desk, picking it up out of curiosity.
"Zuo Xiuran?" Jieyu tilted her head playfully, asking Moyan with a hint of mischief, "Isn't he the one who was spotted with that pop star at the hotel a few days ago?"
Moyan gave a noncommittal grunt and pulled the document from Jieyu's hands.
Jieyu felt a pang of disappointment. Why couldn't Moyan understand her? Was it still because of Yifan?
Suddenly, an idea struck her, and she beamed at Moyan. "Moyan, I heard Hsu's is trying to win over Zuo Xiuran. He's known to be a ladies' man. What if we have my sister become his manager? Wouldn't that make it easier to bring him on board?"
Moyan stared intently at Jieyu, trying to decipher why she would suggest such a thing.
Feeling a chill from his gaze, Jieyu shivered slightly and stammered, "I-I was just suggesting it."
