C9 Banquet

Before his wedding, Hsu Moyan was constantly busy. He had to handle the affairs of his corporation and deal with some restless individuals at the company. If it weren't for his secretary's reminder, he might have forgotten about his own wedding.

In his rare moments of free time, his thoughts drifted to that "Little Wild Cat." After resolving the radio station issue, she hadn't reached out to him. Although they had agreed not to contact each other unless it was urgent, he still felt uneasy not seeing her for so long.

Several times, he picked up his phone, the numbers now familiar, yet he never dialed. Perhaps he just couldn't find a reason to call.

And so, time slipped away.

It wasn't until his wedding day that Hsu Moyan realized he was really getting married. His long-absent father, Hsu Yihuai, showed up, unusually gentle. Moyan felt nothing, or perhaps what he felt was disdain.

"Son, well done, marrying the mayor's daughter. Expanding Hsu's will be a breeze," Hsu Yihuai laughed heartily, praising Moyan. In truth, he wished it were Hsu Mofan, the family disappointment, marrying the mayor's daughter, rather than Moyan, whom he saw as heartless. Moyan had seized control of the company while Hsu Yihuai was recovering from a car accident, even convincing the board to overthrow him.

Don't even mention that this is an illegitimate child; even if he were a legitimate son, Hsu Yihuai would want him gone. Unfortunately, Hsu Moyan's influence remains untouchable, and Hsu Yihuai has no legitimate means to bring him down. Even with underhanded tactics, he can only control Xu Ya, while Hsu Moyan, like a lone wolf, is relentless and without flaws. There's no way in.

Hsu Moyan is used to Hsu Yihuai's two-faced nature. Their relationship is far from friendly; they're practically enemies. There's no need for him to play nice. By securing his position in the company, he ensures a better life for himself and his mother.

Seeing this, Hsu Yihuai's face briefly showed embarrassment, but his resentment deepened. Yet, he quickly put on the facade of a loving father, praising Hsu Moyan to the media.

Hsu Moyan, indifferent to it all, picked up Gu Jieyu and headed to the city's finest five-star hotel. The hotel was abuzz due to the marriage alliance between Hsu's Group and Mayor Gu. It was the only venue hosting a wedding banquet that day. After all, the guests attending were influential, leaving no room for any disruptions, making it worth clearing the venue.

The grand wedding scene was every bride's dream. The hall was filled with champagne roses, Gu Jieyu's favorite, their fragrance wafting with every step. Soft lights illuminated the end of the red carpet, where the person she loved awaited.

Gu Changsheng held Jieyu's hand, waiting for the person at the end of the aisle to come over and take his only daughter from him.

Yes, his only daughter. Gu Changsheng never acknowledged Yifan's existence, and the world was unaware of her.

Moyan walked steadily down the aisle, his six-foot frame and perfect build giving the impression of a runway model.

Jieyu wished she could hike up her dress and run to him.

In the past, she thought the aisle was too short, not giving people enough time to admire her beauty. But now, she hated how long it felt because Moyan hadn't yet reached to take her hand.

Finally, Moyan stood before her. He didn't kneel but simply extended his hand. To everyone's surprise, Jieyu didn't wait for the officiant to speak, and Gu Changsheng didn't hand her over. Instead, Jieyu eagerly placed her hand in Moyan's.

The officiant was about to remind the couple to follow the program, but a glance from Moyan silenced him.

The ceremony continued. Moyan led Jieyu absentmindedly to the center of the stage, looking out at the crowd. Once there, he let go of her hand, standing a bit apart. Jieyu, in her trailing wedding gown, found it difficult to move, so she remained where she was.

Moyan felt nothing, as the person he was waiting for hadn't arrived, so there was no emotional stir.

"As the saying goes, a talented man deserves a beautiful woman. Our groom, Mr. Moyan, is undoubtedly one of the most eligible bachelors in the city, and our bride, Miss Jieyu, is a rare beauty. Their union truly seems like a match made in heaven."

The emcee, beaming with joy, delivered the wedding speech, and the audience responded with applause, which helped him regain his confidence and continue smoothly. However, at that moment, he inadvertently glanced at Moyan and noticed the groom's intimidating gaze, which seemed to accuse him of rambling.

The emcee hesitated, momentarily at a loss for words, but then decided, if you think I'm talking too much, I'll just skip ahead to the ring exchange!

"Mr. Moyan, do you take Miss Jieyu to be your wife? Will you love her, comfort her, honor and protect her, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, in beauty or in decline, in good times and in bad, and remain faithful to her for the rest of your lives?"

Moyan's previously restless mind gradually calmed down with the emcee's solemn words. Loving the woman beside him was impossible—it was all about interests, after all.

However, for someone as proud as he usually was, these words seemed almost sacred, so sacred that he hesitated to agree to them lightly.

The officiant was puzzled. What was up with this groom? Any other groom would have said "I do" the moment the officiant finished speaking.

But now, there was an awkward silence.

The media was frantically capturing the scene at the center of the stage, already crafting their headlines: "Hsu's Heir Forced into Marriage with Mayor's Daughter."

Gu Jieyu's smile froze as she turned to Hsu Moyan, her eyes questioning what was going on.

Hsu Moyan glanced at the audience, seeing the displeased faces of Gu Changsheng and Hsu Yihuai. He knew there was no turning back now. Resolutely, he looked at the officiant.

Just as he was about to speak, a voice rang out, "I object!"

"Wow—"

The room erupted into chaos. The reporters were even more thrilled, their adrenaline pumping. This wedding was anything but simple. Clearly, there was a lot of drama, and their editor would surely commend them for capturing it.

Hsu Moyan felt a familiar stir at the sound of the voice. How could she show up at an event like this?

Gu Yifan emerged from the edge of the hall, looking at Hsu Moyan on stage with satisfaction. Hsu Moyan, Gu Changsheng, your arranged marriage and all your secrets—I’m going to expose them right when everyone thinks they’re celebrating!

When you're upset, it makes me, Gu Yifan, really happy!
