C11 The Ring Is Very Nice

Su Kexin's heart felt like it missed a beat in that fleeting moment.

She guessed?

What on earth was she guessing!

Internally rolling her eyes, she nevertheless forced a smile and ventured, "I guess... with Director Gu being so exceptional, he must be married by now, right?"

After posing the question, she felt a surge of guilt and couldn't bring herself to look at Gu Chi.

But almost immediately, she chided herself —

Why the guilt? It was Gu Chi who had hidden his identity from her, and since entering the office, he had continued to feign ignorance of her. She had nothing to feel guilty about.

Amidst Su Kexin's whirlwind of thoughts, the man in the wheelchair opposite her was taking in every nuance of her expression.

A barely noticeable smile played at the corners of Gu Chi's lips.

He had known all along that she would be the one interviewing him today. In fact, he had agreed to the interview precisely because he knew she worked at the magazine.

His earlier question had been meant in jest, yet he hadn't anticipated her to be so visibly flustered. Her bashfulness was quite at odds with the past he had researched about her.

Gu Chi's mind subtly shifted gears, but outwardly, he responded with composure, "Yes, I've gotten married, just in the past few days."

He lingered on the phrase "the past few days," his gaze fleetingly touching Su Kexin and inadvertently quickening her pulse.

Before Su Kexin could respond, Xiaomei at her side gasped dramatically.

"Director Gu, you're married? That's going to shatter the hearts of countless female readers." Xiaomei spoke with feigned sorrow and couldn't resist probing further, "May I ask what kind of person Director Gu's wife is? Could she be a young miss from a prominent family?"

"Xiaomei!" Su Kexin interjected, tugging at her colleague. This question was off-script and far too personal, bordering on impolite.

Fortunately, Gu Chi wasn't offended. He simply offered a faint smile and chose not to satisfy Xiaomei's curiosity.

"Let's move on from Director Gu's personal life and focus on some questions about his work," Su Kexin suggested, eager to steer the interview away from the topic of marriage.

The subsequent questions were all quite standard, and the interview wrapped up at a comfortably predictable pace.

"It was a pleasure to be interviewed by your magazine," Gu Chi said as he bid farewell, shaking hands with each of them courteously. Yet, when he took Su Kexin's hand, he lingered a second longer, his gaze subtly dropping to the ring on her finger. A slight smile played on his lips. "That's a beautiful ring," he remarked.

Su Kexin felt her cheeks flush with heat and hastily withdrew her hand.

It wasn't until they had left Gu Chi's office that Su Kexin's nerves finally unwound.

Xiaomei was beside her, exclaiming with dramatic flair, "Oh my god, I shook hands with the Chairman of the Chiyao Group! I'm not washing my hand for a week!"

Su Kexin gave her a look that was a mix of amusement and exasperation. She was about to tease Xiaomei for her fangirl moment when Gu Chi's secretary approached them, bearing several elegantly wrapped small boxes.

"Journalists from Fashion Magazine, our CEO has prepared these small gifts for you. We hope you'll enjoy them," he said.

Xiaomei's excitement soared as she accepted the beautifully packaged box. "Oh my god, a gift too? Director Gu is just too thoughtful!"

She eagerly opened the box to reveal a Chanel scarf. "Wow, that's the generosity of a big company's CEO for you!" she exclaimed, unable to contain her excitement. "Each one is a different pattern. Kexin, let's see what yours looks like."

Su Kexin hadn't planned to open hers, but under Xiaomei's persistent urging, she relented and lifted the lid. However, the instant she caught sight of the contents, her face abruptly paled, and she quickly snapped the box shut.
