C15 Where Is Your Ring??

"Open the door," Gu Chi called from the other side, his voice cutting through Su Kexin's silence. "You left something behind."

Left something behind?

Her racing thoughts halted. With a moment's hesitation, Su Kexin finally approached the bathroom door and cracked it open slightly.

Gu Chi's distinctively articulated hand reached in, presenting a soft, pristine towel.

Su Kexin was momentarily taken aback.

"Weren't you looking for this just now?" Gu Chi's voice held a teasing edge, causing Su Kexin's cheeks to flare with heat from behind the door.

"Thank you," she said quickly, snatching the towel and shutting the door with haste.

After drying off and slipping into her pajamas, Su Kexin emerged to find Gu Chi already dressed in dark blue silk pajamas, seated on the bed, his laptop perched on his knees as he typed away.

Something about the scene struck Su Kexin as odd.

She had assumed that someone with Gu Chi's mobility issues would be surrounded by caretakers. Yet, the house was only staffed by Mr. Wang and Zhang Ma, with no one attending to him personally.

Was he managing to get into bed by himself?

And didn't he need help showering?

Unable to contain her curiosity, she asked, "Do you need help with your shower?"

"I've already showered," Gu Chi replied succinctly.

Su Kexin had been concerned about the logistics of him showering alone, but he'd already taken care of it. Yet, the thought of him showering elsewhere nagged at her—could there be another woman involved?

Her mind teemed with possibilities, but truth be told, even if Gu Chi had someone on the side, it wouldn't bother her.

Turning her attention to the desk, Su Kexin began organizing her work items for the next day. That's when she spotted her wedding ring, which she had removed before her bath. She paused, the memory of purchasing the simple bands flooding back. At the time, she had no idea her husband was a billionaire, and the modest design reflected her ignorance.

Now, the ring seemed far too humble for a man of Gu Chi's stature.

With a discreet glance at Gu Chi, who was engrossed in his work, she slipped her ring into her purse. She then placed the ring box she had intended for Gu Chi into the drawer of the vanity, her movements swift and silent.

After finishing her evening routine, Su Kexin climbed into bed.

She was comforted by the spaciousness of the bed, complete with two sets of quilts and pillows. Gu Chi was on one side, and Su Kexin lay on the other, with a good half-meter of space between them.

"Finished?" Gu Chi inquired, his tone detached as he lay down, though his attention remained on the screen.

"Yes," Su Kexin responded, her curiosity piqued as she sneaked a peek at Gu Chi's screen.

She was aware that Gu Chi's company specialized in funds and bonds, but the screen's array of red and green charts and graphs was beyond her comprehension, and she didn't bother trying to understand.

"Sleeping yet?" Gu Chi suddenly asked, glancing over at Su Kexin.

"Sure."

With that, Gu Chi promptly switched off the bedside lamp.

As darkness enveloped the room, Su Kexin's nerves kicked in again.

She had yet to discern Gu Chi's true motives for marrying her, leaving her uncertain about the nature of their relationship.

Lying rigidly in bed, time ticked away until Gu Chi's even breathing signaled his slumber, allowing her to finally relax and drift off to sleep.

Come morning, Su Kexin's alarm sounded punctually. She rose to find Gu Chi already gone from her side.

After a quick wash and applying a touch of makeup, she headed downstairs.

Approaching the staircase, the aroma of breakfast greeted her.

Mrs. Wang was bustling about with the dishes, beaming warmly at Su Kexin's arrival. "Young Madam, you're awake. Come, breakfast is ready."

At the dining table, a lavish spread awaited her.

Mrs. Wang had prepared a traditional Chinese breakfast, both delicate and plentiful, featuring soup dumplings, pan-fried dumplings, and freshly made soy milk.

Gu Chi was already seated, newspaper in one hand and a cup in the other, which he brought to his lips with casual ease.

Su Kexin's eyes lingered on the distinct lines of Gu Chi's hands, and she found herself momentarily transfixed.
