C19 Only the Two of Us Are Left at Home

Su Kexin had no recollection of hailing a cab and returning to Gu Chi's villa. All the way, her mind was haunted by Mi Mi's voice—

He's back...

Why has he returned? And for what reason?

After leaving so resolutely without a farewell, why return now?

Lost in her thoughts, Su Kexin wandered into the villa in a daze, only snapping back to reality when she caught sight of Gu Chi in the living room.

"You're back early today?" Su Kexin expressed her surprise.

"Mhm." Gu Chi responded nonchalantly, just as Uncle Wang and Aunt Zhang entered the living room, lugging their suitcases.

"Uncle Wang, Aunt Zhang, what's all this...?"

"Young Madam, our son is getting married tomorrow, and we're off to celebrate," Mr. Zhang explained with a warm smile.

"Oh, that's wonderful news, congratulations!" Su Kexin responded. "How long will the wedding festivities last?"

"Just a banquet in S City; we'll return tomorrow evening," Mrs. Zhang said with a tender smile, though her eyes betrayed concern when they landed on Gu Chi. "It's just that the Young Master here..."

Su Kexin understood Mrs. Zhang's concern was for Gu Chi's well-being in their absence.

"Indeed," Mr. Wang added, "Young Master, perhaps we should call some relatives to look after you? Otherwise..."

"No need." Gu Chi cut him off, his tone cool yet final.

"But without anyone at home, who will prepare breakfast for the Young Master tomorrow?" Mrs. Zhang pressed, growing anxious.

Su Kexin felt awkward.

Typical of the wealthy, to consider hiring help for a mere breakfast.

Yet, she also keenly picked up on something else: Uncle Wang and Aunt Zhang consistently referred to Gu Chi as "Young Master." That implied there must be a patriarch above Gu Chi, right?

And they mentioned the main family...

"Don't worry about it," Gu Chi interjected, halting Su Kexin's speculation. "Su Kexin, you can cook, can't you?"

"Ah?" Caught off guard, Su Kexin looked up into Gu Chi's intense, dark eyes. "I... Yes, I can cook."

Su Kexin had just finished her response when the memory of Mrs. Wang's lavish breakfast from that morning popped into her mind, prompting her to add, "Just a little..."

A fleeting smile danced in Gu Chi's eyes before it vanished.

"A little is plenty," he murmured, then turned back to Mrs. Wang and Mr. Zhang. "With that settled, you two can be at ease."

Mr. Wang and Mrs. Zhang didn't have much else to add, but as Su Kexin escorted them to the door, Mrs. Wang couldn't resist taking Su Kexin's hand, advising, "Young Madam, I've prepared the dumplings and buns; they're in the fridge. Make sure to steam them tomorrow morning, cook some pumpkin porridge, and whip up a few side dishes. Be meticulous—Young Master has discerning tastes when it comes to his meals."

A headache loomed as Su Kexin asked, "Can I just order takeout?"

"That won't do at all; the food outside is far too unclean," Mrs. Wang chided.

With no other option, Su Kexin resignedly nodded and watched them depart.

The following morning arrived.

Su Kexin had set her alarm an hour early and, yawning, she descended the stairs to prepare breakfast. An hour's effort yielded a modest spread on the table—not as opulent as Mrs. Wang's, but passable.

She was about to call Gu Chi to come down when she exited the kitchen and saw him emerging from the elevator. The villa had been equipped with one to accommodate Gu Chi's mobility challenges, despite having just two floors.

As Su Kexin was about to announce breakfast, she caught Gu Chi awkwardly holding something up in his hand. "Do you have a battery?" he asked.
