C8 The Wedding Ring

Upon arriving at the bus station, Su Kexin wasted no time in calling her company's HR department.

"I'm about to transfer my residency to S City soon, so I'm wondering when my medical insurance will be sorted out? Right, it's not just for me, but for my family too. Yes, my mother's currently hospitalized."

Su Kexin had a lengthy conversation with HR and finally managed to iron out the details of the insurance.

With the call ended, she let out a deep sigh of relief.

Despite the hasty nature of her marriage today, she had at least resolved her most pressing concern—once her residency was established, the insurance would cover her mother's medical bills.

The bus arrived quickly, and Su Kexin headed straight for her workplace.

Since the wedding had been arranged so swiftly, she reached the office before it was time for her afternoon interview. With time to spare, she used the bank card Gu Chi had given her to shop at the mall next to her office.

Considering it was for her wedding, a ring was necessary. Yet, unsure of Gu Chi's financial situation, she opted for the most affordable, plain design, purchasing a pair. She wore one and carefully placed the other in a box before heading to work.

Settling into her seat at the office, Su Kexin was about to review her interview materials when Xiaomei and Ms. Zheng from the office glided over, their eyes gleaming with curiosity. "Kexin, what's with the ring?"

Caught off guard, Su Kexin's eyes dropped to the new sparkle on her finger, and she chuckled, somewhat embarrassed.

"You two have sharp eyes," she admitted, seeing no point in keeping secrets. The HR department was already aware of her residency change, and it wouldn't be long before word of her marriage spread. "I got married."

"No way, just like that?" Ms. Zheng's eyes nearly popped out of her head, but she quickly added, "Kexin, congratulations!"

Su Kexin just smiled in response, while Xiaomei eagerly examined the ring's design.

"Kexin, did your brother-in-law give you that ring?" Xiaomei leaned in close, but upon getting a good look at Su Kexin's ring, her brow furrowed. "Oh, the diamond doesn't look that big. How much did it cost?"

Su Kexin had chosen the most affordable ring she could find, adorned with just a few small diamonds. She wasn't one to put on airs, and candidly admitted, "It cost just over a thousand yuan."

Xiaomei's frown deepened.

"Kexin, that won't do," she said earnestly. "A ring is a symbol of marriage. How can you rely on a man who won't even spring for a decent ring?"

Su Kexin simply smiled, saying nothing. She understood that girls Xiaomei's age often had a strong sense of vanity. However, for her, the significance of a ring had faded into irrelevance.

"We do what we can," Su Kexin responded lightly, noticing a hint of pity in the glances from Xiaomei and Ms. Zheng. They probably assumed her husband's financial situation was poor.

Truth be told, Su Kexin wasn't even sure about Gu Chi's financial standing.

But it didn't matter to her.

"Let's change the subject," Su Kexin suggested, not wanting to dwell on the matter. "How are the preparations for this afternoon's interview?"

"I'm totally prepared!" Su Kexin's words effectively shifted Xiaomei's focus, her excitement palpable. "Kexin, look at me. Don't I look pretty today?"

It was then that Su Kexin noticed Xiaomei's outfit—a chic pink and white suit with a short skirt, her hair styled with care.

"You look stunning," Su Kexin complimented generously.

Xiaomei's eyes sparkled even more. "So, Kexin, do you think the CEO of Shenyuan Foundation's Sixth Diamond will take a shine to me?"

Su Kexin paused, realizing the reason behind Xiaomei's meticulous grooming was their interview subject for the afternoon.
