C10 A Counterattack!
Wen Chichi picked up her wine glass and smiled slightly.
Seeing her lift the glass he had handed her, Fu Yandong quickly moved to clink glasses with her, intending to embarrass her. However, Wen Chichi smiled at him and said, "I remember you've been married for years without kids. Here's to you, hoping you catch some of my good luck and make fewer trips to the doctor."
Fu Yandong's smile froze on his face. He had planned to humiliate Wen Chichi to achieve his own ends, but her words turned the tables, subtly mocking him instead. What man could tolerate such an insult?
Standing silently nearby, Fu Yuxi couldn't help but stifle a laugh. He poured himself a drink and flashed a cool, sharp smile at the group. "Big brother, you should graciously accept Chichi's blessing."
Fu Yandong's face turned a shade of iron gray, his well-laid plans shattered by this unexpected woman.
"Hmm?" Fu Yuxi raised an eyebrow, prompting Fu Yandong as he remained silent.
"Well, I'll take your good wishes then!" Fu Yandong replied, gripping his glass tightly and forcing a smile as he leaned closer to Fu Yuxi.
Deep down, Wen Chichi never really took these people seriously. Everyone had their own agenda, and none of them were truly good. She had come to realize that even though Fu Yuxi seemed frail, his standing in the family was not to be underestimated.
Fu Yandong watched the interaction between Wen Chichi and Fu Yuxi with frustration, yet he felt powerless. He simply couldn't find any leverage against Fu Yuxi.
Wen Zhouzhou, sharp as ever, quickly recognized that his future stepdad was a significant figure. Though they looked well-matched, Fu Yuxi appeared sickly. With so many people around, Zhouzhou couldn't observe him closely.
As Wen Chichi served Zhouzhou some food, she whispered, "Today’s special. For your mom’s money, make sure you don’t mess up, okay?" Zhouzhou nodded obediently, understanding that without the money, their future was bleak.
Noticing Zhouzhou, who looked just like him, Fu Yuxi couldn't help but chuckle softly. Zhouzhou, perceptive as always, sensed that this so-called stepdad seemed quite interested in him. Their eyes were strikingly similar, as if they were cast from the same mold.
Zhouzhou knew that only a blood relationship could explain such a resemblance. Otherwise, how could such a coincidence exist in this world?
Wen Zhouzhou made a silent decision to find out what was really going on when he got back. He figured it wouldn't be impossible to get along with his stepfather.
Fu Yandong, feeling humiliated, didn't dare say much more. However, his wife couldn't swallow her pride. Her eyes, filled with a venomous glare, were fixed on Wen Chichi.
Fu Yandong and Fu Yuxi were close in age, and when Lin Meili married Fu Yandong, she was in her prime. Now, at just twenty-six, they still had no children, which certainly wasn't her fault. Despite taking Fu Yandong for multiple check-ups, nothing seemed to help. It was surprising how well-informed Wen Chichi was.
Lin Meili, true to her name, was indeed strikingly beautiful, though not quite on par with Wen Chichi. Her words, however, came across as those of a common woman. With a forced smile and a sharp, high-pitched voice, she seemed to be suppressing her emotions, trying to appear cheerful.
"Chichi, you really have a way with words. My husband and I will gladly accept your blessings. If things don't work out, I won't blame you for having other intentions."
The irony of her blaming Wen Chichi for her own inability to have children was laughable. Was she going to make a little doll and stick pins in it right in front of them?
Wen Chichi smiled calmly, "Of course, you'll get your wish."
To be honest, from the start, Wen Chichi noticed that Lin Meili, standing next to Fu Yandong, was quite peculiar. With such a beautiful face, she willingly married Fu Yandong, who hadn't achieved much, and even faced the risk of not having children. Was it true love or just for money? Clearly, it seemed more like the latter.
After the toast, Fu Yanbei's wife couldn't hold back and wanted to chat with Wen Chichi. As the daughter of the Wang Group, she was poised and spoke with an elegant charm that made people feel at ease. However, the sharp glint in her eyes made Wen Chichi aware that this gentle demeanor often concealed a deadly edge.
Thankfully, Wang Rou was courteous enough, so Wen Chichi didn't make things difficult for her. After exchanging a toast and some conversation, the banquet returned to its usual calm.
