C12 Poisoned

Upon noticing Wen Chichi's worried expression, Fu Yuxi couldn't help but chuckle softly. He shifted slightly to the side, allowing her to lean more comfortably against him, and looked down at her with a teasing glint in his eyes. "My little fiancée? You really embarrassed me today."

Wen Chichi's face turned pale. She knew that marrying Fu Yuxi with a child in tow would likely make him the subject of scorn. From the looks of him, he certainly wasn't lacking in options when it came to women. But it wasn't like she had a choice—it was all for her mother's inheritance. For five years, she had endured humiliation, waiting for this day. Marrying a sickly man was a small price to pay, and she wasn't afraid.

Yet, when the man appeared before her, she felt a moment of hesitation. "Why so quiet, hmm?" he asked, playing with her long, seaweed-like hair, clearly reluctant to let go. Gradually, his grip tightened, causing her scalp to ache. She winced and snapped, "Fu Yuxi, did you kill your last wife like this?"

They weren't even married yet, and she was already experiencing domestic abuse. What would happen after the wedding—would he beat her to death in secret? But Fu Yuxi was simply jealous of the man who had taken Wen Chichi's innocence.

After a brief moment of distraction, Fu Yuxi regained his usual calm demeanor, though his gaze toward Wen Chichi softened slightly. His aloofness and disdain were reserved for those he deemed unworthy. Wen Chichi had saved his life, and by any standard, he shouldn't treat her with such indifference.

Watching Wen Chichi's small, cherry-red lips quiver in fear, Fu Yuxi felt a sudden dryness in his throat. Sensing something amiss, the little one quickly pulled Wen Chichi away, putting some distance between them. With hands on his hips, he tried to appear as grown-up as possible.

"You better not touch my mom, or you'll have to deal with me!"

Hearing this, Wen Chichi's face turned pale. She hurriedly covered Wen Zhouzhou's mouth, worried he might say something even more offensive and provoke this powerful man. Everyone knew that although Fu Yuxi was notoriously frail, his influence was unmatched, and no one dared to cross him.

Otherwise, why would the Wen family be so thrilled when they learned Fu Yuxi wanted to marry her? The Fu family was known for their generosity, offering an astonishing dowry of $300 million. Even though everyone knew Wen Chichi's life there wouldn't be easy, who would care about a tarnished reputation? The Wen family, however, saw this alliance as a way to gain more leverage in the business world, profiting off her misfortune.

Beneficial without a single downside.

Wen Chichi turned her head and gave Fu Yuxi an apologetic smile. "Sorry, kids just say the darndest things, you know how it is!"

Fu Yuxi didn't seem to mind. From start to finish, he wore an inexplicable smile, leaving Wen Chichi unsure of what he was truly thinking.

With a light chuckle, Fu Yuxi said, "I actually quite like this little one."

Adorable and so much like how he looked as a child, it was hard for him to feel anything but fondness. Even his father at the dinner table showed extra patience with the child, hinting that the old man might have other thoughts in mind.

With Wen Chichi no longer blocking his view, Wen Zhouzhou finally got a good look at Fu Yuxi. Just one glance and Zhouzhou sensed something was off. However, he wasn't sure if his suspicions were correct, given how well the man could mask his true self. Even at the dinner table, he appeared frail and sickly.

But Zhouzhou knew things weren't that simple. Softening his voice, he sweetly said, "I'll just call you my future stepdad for now. Can you say my name? I'm Wen Zhouzhou."

Though it felt a bit strange, Fu Yuxi couldn't resist a smaller version of himself. Responding to Zhouzhou's request, he repeated with a slight lift in his tone, "Wen Zhouzhou."

He pronounced each syllable deliberately, as if cherishing the name deeply.

Even though many had called Wen Zhouzhou's name before, Fu Yuxi's gentle voice still moved Wen Chichi.

Her son's name just sounded so nice!

However, Wen Zhouzhou shook his head in disappointment.

Then, as if unable to keep his mouth shut, he launched into a long-winded explanation.

"You're lacking energy, your complexion is pale, and the veins in your neck are slightly swollen. It really seems like you've been poisoned."
