C14 Ring

The assistant was instantly impressed by the stunning woman in front of him. What kind of magic did she use to make the usually cold-hearted Mr. Fu willingly bow his head?

Fu Yuxi could clearly see a hint of resistance in Wen Zhouzhou's eyes. Maybe it was because of Wen Chichi's earlier scolding. But Fu Yuxi was too skilled at understanding people.

With a low chuckle from his chest, Fu Yuxi asked, "Zhouzhou, do you know who I am?"

Wen Zhouzhou blinked, looking puzzled, but answered honestly. "Yes, my mom says you're very rich, but unfortunately, you're not in good health."

The assistant gasped, thinking Fu Yuxi would crush the child's spirit. Even though it was true that Fu Yuxi was frail, no one dared to mention it openly—it was an unspoken taboo.

However, Fu Yuxi showed no reaction. "Zhouzhou," he coaxed, "since you know I'm going to marry your mom and become your stepdad, do you really want to see this newly formed family break apart and become a single-parent child again?"

Although Zhouzhou had heard from his mom that Fu Yuxi had a heavy heart and found it hard to maintain kindness, there was an inexplicable sense of familiarity he felt towards Fu Yuxi.

Thinking about how Wen Chichi finally had a chance to escape the clutches of her family, he wasn't about to let this opportunity slip away. If something were to happen to him, Wen Chichi would be unfairly labeled with all sorts of nasty names. Besides, the illness wasn't that hard to treat...

No matter how clever a child is, it's tough to resist the deliberate temptations of adults. Wen Zhouzhou had been looking for someone to test his medical skills on, and now that Yuxi was willing to volunteer, there was no reason to refuse.

Wen Chichi wasn't sure what kind of deal these two had struck, but seeing Zhouzhou's shoulders trembling with excitement, she knew he was likely persuaded. From the start, Wen Chichi's goal was simply to reclaim her inheritance. Marrying Yuxi was just an unexpected twist.

With a displeased expression, Wen Chichi grabbed Zhouzhou, ready to leave. "Mr. Fu, it's late. I need to take my child home to bed. Let's discuss this another day."

Anyone who dared to harm her son would regret it for the rest of their life. Even though Yuxi was an old acquaintance, Wen Chichi wouldn't let him off the hook easily. This time, Yuxi didn't stop them, allowing the two to leave.

Yuxi stood there with a faint, enigmatic smile, silently mouthing something to himself.

After moving her lips three times, Wen Chichi finally turned her head. She still had questions that needed answers.

Biting her lower lip, she spoke softly but with uncertainty, "Mr. Fu, I'm not someone who likes to elevate my status. I'm just curious why someone as prominent as you would want to marry me."

In South City, many prestigious women were eager to attach themselves to Fu Yuxi, even though they knew he was frail and might not survive the winter. His immense wealth and striking appearance made him highly sought after.

Wen Chichi was aware of her place and knew she wouldn't stand a chance, even if she waited for a lifetime.

She waited a long time but received no response. The man took long strides and walked toward her. Seeing his handsome face up close made her heart skip a beat, reminding her of the past.

Yet, she couldn't see how she could be of any use to Fu Yuxi.

His assistant seemed to realize something and quickly handed over a box from his pocket. At Fu Yuxi's nod, Wen Chichi accepted the box and opened it to find an enormous diamond ring. Even with little knowledge of such things, she could tell it was valuable and expensive.

"Mr. Fu? What are you..." Wen Chichi was genuinely puzzled about his intentions.

The assistant chimed in from the side, "Miss Wen, just accept it. It's a gift from Young Master Fu."

Who gives a ring on a first meeting? Was he really planning to marry her? Then again, Wen Chichi thought about how wealthy people often gift jewelry and diamond rings. Maybe it was just a welcome gift.

"That's it, I have things to do..." Fu Yuxi didn't give Wen Chichi any chance to refuse before he turned and left. Knowing she wouldn't get any useful information, Wen Chichi accepted the ring and left with Zhouzhou.

In the car, Wen Chichi kept glancing at the diamond ring, unable to decipher Fu Yuxi's intentions. Frustrated, she decided to put it out of her mind and, holding Zhouzhou's hand, stepped into the Wen family home.

The household staff, adept at reading the room, noticed Wen Chichi's displeasure and treated her with indifference. After all, women who married into the Fu family never seemed to have a happy ending.
