C19 Making a Mistake
Jiaojiao nodded in agreement, "Yeah, sis, now that we've both hit the jackpot, we've got endless opportunities ahead. Why sweat the small stuff?"
They keep saying money doesn't matter, but that's just a front. To them, money is probably more important than life itself.
Chichi just let out a cold laugh, "I feel like we need to reinforce the walls of this house to match your thick skin."
Even if the house collapsed, it probably wouldn't crush this troublesome mother-daughter duo.
Hongyan's face turned pale, but she didn't dare react in front of Zhengze. She could only put on a wounded look, glancing pitifully at Zhengze, who remained silent.
How could they just leave so much wealth to Chichi for nothing? She didn't deserve it.
Yet, at this moment, Zhengze was also on edge. He couldn't scold Chichi like he used to.
Initially, Zhengze had no hope for the marriage with the Fu family. He thought Chichi attending the banquet would only lead to humiliation.
But who would've thought Chichi actually had the ability to impress the Fu family, even setting a date for the engagement?
Even knowing Chichi might not have long to live, they had to show some respect because of her status as Yuxi's fiancée.
The inheritance rightfully belonged to Wen Chichi, but he used his position as a father to strong-arm the situation. If Wen Chichi decided to take legal action, it would likely be a scandal for the entire Wen family.
Suddenly, Wen Jiaojiao, with a smile spreading across her face, spoke up, "Dividing an inheritance is a big deal in our family. We have to hold a family meeting, and it needs unanimous approval to distribute the assets."
The whole Wen family harbored a deep resentment toward Wen Chichi. How could a woman with such a tarnished reputation gain their approval? They initially wanted to give Wen Chichi a chance to back down gracefully. But Wen Chichi was determined to fight for her rights.
"Oh?" Wen Chichi raised her elegant eyebrows, looking genuinely troubled.
Seeing this, Wen Jiaojiao was overjoyed. It seemed Wen Chichi was aware of her own disgraceful reputation. The elders of the family would avoid her at all costs, so how could they agree to give her any inheritance?
Wen Chichi indeed appeared conflicted, showing a hint of embarrassment. "If that's the case, let's hold the family meeting," she said before turning to leave.
The three exchanged glances, unsure of what to make of Wen Chichi's demeanor. "Do you think Wen Chichi is really scared?" Wang Hongyan wondered aloud.
"How could anyone not be afraid? Public opinion can ruin a person, and the elders in the family would never let her join the company."
Wen Chichi might not care about her reputation, but the Wen family certainly does.
Wen Zhengze paused, acknowledging Jiaojiao's point. "The elders in our family are very particular about our reputation. It's unlikely to happen; she's bound to make a fool of herself."
Jiaojiao beamed, no longer worried.
...
Night fell.
Wen Chichi lay in bed, holding little Zhouzhou close. She tossed and turned, unable to sleep, feeling a deep sense of unease. Maybe it was something she remembered, but she quickly pulled out a ring from under her pillow.
Why did Yuxi give her this ring? What did it represent? One question after another filled her mind, leaving her restless. But with these thoughts, she soon drifted into sleep, ready to face the battle tomorrow.
Wen Chichi knew exactly what these people were up to. Calling a family meeting was just a facade. They simply wanted to see her fail and make her back down.
She smirked, her lips curling into a nearly predatory smile. Too bad for them, they miscalculated. She was no longer the same person she was five years ago.
Those who humiliated her and seized her family's property will pay the price. Before closing her eyes, she held the ring tightly in her hand.
