C2 Little Milky Bun
The air was thick with the metallic scent of blood. The excessive blood loss left Wen Chichi's body increasingly frail, as if she were wrapped in a shroud of cold. Just when she thought she might die... the truck slowly started up...
Ten months later.
In a modest country clinic, the cries of a newborn filled the air as a woman finally gave birth to a child...
Five years later.
South City was as bustling as ever. At the airport, amidst the constant flow of people, a small crowd gathered near the coffee shop. A serious-looking little boy, about three or four years old, bent down to examine a man lying on the ground. After a moment of observation, he spoke in his sweet, childish voice:
"Your sweat smells bad, your throat seems blocked, your heartbeat is slow, and your face is turning blue! Grandpa, did you eat something you shouldn't have? It's liver toxins! But don't worry, I'm here. I'll give you a little rub, and the doctor will be here soon!"
"Get away, kid! What do you know? If anything happens to my dad, you'll be in big trouble!"
The man, clearly anxious, snapped at the adorable little boy, showing no kindness. Wen Zhouzhou puffed out his cheeks, a bit upset, and was about to remind the man not to shake the elderly man so violently.
Just then, Wen Chichi's voice called out from behind, "Zhouzhou!"
Wen Chichi glanced at her nosy son, then at the man on the ground who didn't look too pleased. She frowned and said, "This grandpa's going to be fine. Don't worry, the ambulance will be here soon."
Zhouzhou knew the grandpa might just have to stay in the hospital for a few days, but he was excited to be out and couldn't help but get involved when he saw someone in need. He sidled up to Wen Chichi, his eyes darting mischievously, and said, "But Mommy, if that silly uncle keeps shaking grandpa like that, he might feel worse later, and it could even shorten his life."
"Hey, kid, what nonsense are you spouting? Who are you cursing?" The man glared at Zhouzhou, a mix of embarrassment and anger on his face.
Wen Chichi shielded her son, displeased. "You made the old man uncomfortable with your foolishness, and my son was just trying to help. Instead of picking on a child, maybe you should focus on calling the ambulance."
With that, Wen Chichi took her son's hand and led him out of the crowd. As they walked away, she sighed and gently scolded him, "Didn't I tell you not to diagnose people unless it's a life-or-death situation?"
Her son was still young and easily influenced by the world's harshness, so she had to remind him. "But Mommy, didn't you also say that doctors should have compassion? That's what I was doing!"
Wen Chichi gave her son a sideways glance, unable to suppress a small smile.
She hesitated to contradict her little fox, knowing it wasn't compassion driving him, but curiosity! Who knew where her son got it from, with his IQ of 200, he was practically a prodigy at such a young age.
"Don't worry, once we're back with the family, you'll have plenty of people to treat."
After all, everyone in the family seemed to have something wrong with them!
Wen Chichi squinted, implying more than she said, but Zhouzhou didn’t catch the underlying meaning and was about to ask.
Just then, a woman's excited voice called from nearby, "Chichi, over here!"
It was Lin Xiaoruo!
Wen Chichi smiled and led Wen Zhouzhou towards her.
Meanwhile, not far away, a man flicked the ash from his cigarette, his eyes following the little one's retreating figure until they disappeared from view. Only then did he squint, unable to shake the memory of the child's face.
Too familiar.
The person beside the man noticed his gaze and was a bit surprised. "Sir, that seems to be the eldest daughter of the family."
"Isn't she... Wen Chichi?"
"Yes." The person broke into a cold sweat. "She's the one the old man picked as your... marriage partner. I heard this second Miss from the family is good for nothing, has a terrible reputation, and had a child out of wedlock, but her fortune is said to bring prosperity... the old man seems to think highly of her."
The man narrowed his eyes, a cold glint flashing through them.
It wasn't about prosperity; it was about choosing someone who had a child out of wedlock to spite him.
"Go check it out, and take the kid with you."
The man dropped this command and walked away. His companion was momentarily stunned but quickly nodded in agreement and followed him.
Meanwhile, Wen Chichi smiled and approached Lin Ruoer, noticing her gaze was fixed behind her.
"Lin Xiaoruo!"
Lin Ruoer snapped back to reality and looked at her friend, playfully scolding, "Wen Chichi, you finally decided to come back!"
Five years ago, when Wen Chichi disappeared from the hospital, Lin Ruoer was worried sick. She later learned that the Wen family had sent her to the countryside. Rumors followed that Wen Chichi had a child out of wedlock and faced many hardships there, but Lin Ruoer felt helpless to assist her.
Seeing a hint of guilt in Lin Ruoer's eyes, Wen Chichi quickly changed the subject, "Yes, yes, it's all my fault. What were you just looking at?"
"Oh, I thought I saw a car from the Fu family. It seemed like they were here to pick up Second Master Fu. Too bad I didn't get a glimpse of him. I heard he's incredibly handsome!" Lin Ruoer lamented missing the chance to see the famously charming figure from South City, even if he was rumored to be gravely ill. She couldn't help but appreciate a good-looking person.
