C8 It Was Him!
8:00 PM.
Inside a private room at the Mingxia Club.
A number of people were seated around the round table.
This gathering included Old Master Fu, along with Fu Yuxi's two brothers and their wives, Fu Yandong and Fu Yanbei, as well as other cousins.
Unlike Fu Yuxi, Fu Yandong's mother was Old Master Fu's first wife, whom he never loved, resulting in a distant relationship with Fu Yandong.
Fu Yuxi's mother, on the other hand, was the true love Old Master Fu married after his first wife passed away. Despite her short life, she was his cherished love.
Fu Yanbei was an orphan adopted by Old Master Fu and shared a closer bond with Fu Yandong.
Both harbored an inexplicable hostility toward Fu Yuxi.
With Fu Yuxi gravely ill and set to marry a woman with a tarnished reputation for having a child out of wedlock, many in the room seemed to relish the situation.
“Well, isn’t this something? Fu Yuxi is marrying a secondhand woman. I heard Wen Chichi not only had a child out of wedlock, but the kid’s father has a shady background. Who knows if he’s a hustler or a beggar.”
“No wonder Fu Yuxi isn’t showing up. I bet it’s not because he’s sick, but because he’s embarrassed. Wearing shoes someone else has worn, he might not even rest in peace.”
“They’re two of a kind. Fu Yuxi isn’t much better. Besides his looks, who’d want to marry a living corpse? That Wen Chichi, so young and desperate, probably isn’t much to speak of either!”
Inside the private room, the chatter grew louder, but Old Master Fu remained silent, his expression stern. He had discussed this marriage with Yuxi. As long as his son was willing, the opinions of others didn’t matter.
Fu Yandong, standing nearby, had a hint of satisfaction and arrogance in his eyes. For years, Old Master Fu had favored Fu Yuxi, even entrusting him with the management of the Fu family business. Clearly, he was the one who should inherit the Fu legacy! Now, he was eager to see if Fu Yuxi would be humiliated.
Amidst the murmurs, the manager approached respectfully, "Mr. Fu, Miss Wen has arrived."
Old Master Fu's eyes focused, and he nodded at the manager. The door to the room swung open, revealing a woman in a black gown, her long dark hair cascading down, her skin as fair as porcelain, lips a striking red. She was both stunning and elegant, carrying a charming little child by her side.
The room fell silent. The woman before them was breathtakingly beautiful, exuding grace and poise. The previous criticisms seemed trivial and laughable.
Wen Chichi, holding the child's hand, walked in slowly. She curved her lips into a gentle smile and apologized, "Sir, it seems I'm a bit late."
Before she finished speaking, a deep, pleasant voice sounded from behind her, "Not at all. Just in time."
Everyone's eyes darted to the space behind her, pupils narrowing in shock. How could he be here?
Wen Chichi sensed the collective astonishment in their gazes and turned around, curious. As soon as she saw him, her breath caught.
The man before her stood tall and graceful, his features as striking as carved marble, and his long, narrow eyes were filled with amusement. They said Pan An was the most handsome man, and Wen Chichi had always believed it. But now, seeing this man, she realized the ancient records might not even capture a fraction of his allure.
Perhaps she was staring too intently, for his image seemed to merge with a long-buried memory...
Before she could ponder further, a cold male voice broke through her thoughts, "I just arrived too." His tone was calm, revealing nothing of his emotions.
He then walked alongside Wen Chichi into the banquet hall, casting a cool glance over the crowd. His icy demeanor made people like Fu Yandong instinctively lower their heads, avoiding eye contact.
Fu Yuxi smirked in satisfaction, and when no one was looking, he stepped forward and gave her fingers a deliberate squeeze, signaling with a glance. The hint was too obvious. Wen Chichi, feeling awkward, quickly pulled her hand away, forcing a strained smile to maintain composure.
It seems he doesn't want to acknowledge me here.
Wen Chichi never imagined that the man she had a brief encounter with would appear at today's banquet.
The people around them found their interaction a bit strange.
Old Master Fu cleared his throat and spoke in a deep voice, "Yuxi, arriving later than everyone else is hardly appropriate!"
Wen Chichi's eyes widened in shock.
What! He's actually Fu Yuxi!?
