C43

Hearing this, Pei Luoyi was stunned.

Before she could fully grasp his meaning, the man had already turned around and leisurely walked back to the bed, looking at her condescendingly.

Her gaze stopped on his emotionless face, looked at his thin lips and said, "Aren't you very capable? "You were looking down on me just a moment ago, but now you seem to remember that you have something you need me for?"

Pei Luoyi looked at him and silently pursed her lips as her eyelids drooped down.

It was not so much that he was angry at her for overturning the porridge as at her resistance to him.

But what was their relationship? It didn't seem to matter at all.

Enemy? She didn't admit it, and since she didn't think it was her who had hit him, the relationship didn't work.

Couple? According to the agreement, they could be considered husband and wife, but they were also an unreal couple. After all, they were very clear in their hearts that there was no such thing as a relationship between husband and wife.

As he put it, it was just an occasional interest in role-playing, and the word role-playing was a lot more appropriate than married couples.

She pursed her lips and did not reply.

The man's handsome face darkened, "You're not asking? Didn't they say that work is important to you? "

The sarcasm and mockery in his eyes caused Pei Luoyi to raise her head and look at him once more.

She stared into his eyes for a moment, a bitter smile playing at the corners of her mouth.

"I beg you, will you give me my freedom?"

"Nope."

He answered quickly, almost seamlessly, her question.

The expected result was not exactly a disappointment.

Pei Luoyi smiled and shrugged, "If that's the case, then I have nothing else to say."

With that, she pulled the blanket over her and lay back down on the bed.

His head was plastered to a soft pillow, but it didn't ease the dizziness that came upon him.

She didn't know if it was physical or mental, but maybe there were all of these reasons that added up together would make her feel so exhausted.

She just wanted to get a good night's sleep.

Gong Yan gazed at the thin figure of his back, then turned around and walked towards the door.

He tilted his head and said, "Don't think about using the hunger strike to threaten me anymore. If you're sure you want to do this, why don't you think about whether your parents can bear the consequences first. I can save your life, but it'll still be useful."

On the bed, Pei Luoyi opened her eyes wide as she listened to his words. Her gaze was dull as she looked in the direction of the window.

In the end, she did not show any reaction.

The man looked at her stiff back and frowned invisibly. Then he took a step away.

When she was sure the man was gone, she turned over on her back on the bed and rested her head on her seaweed like hair.

The crystal chandelier hung lifelessly on the ceiling, and his thoughts spun far away.

He didn't know how long he was lost in thought for, but the servant returned with another bowl of porridge.

Upon seeing her lifeless eyes, he was taken aback.

After carefully asking her if she was feeling unwell, Pei Luoyi only shook her head.

Seeing this, the servant breathed a sigh of relief, and handed the bowl to her, exhorting her with a few kindly words.

Pei Luoyi's gaze was indifferent and she still did not have much appetite. However, she was unable to resist the man's words before he left. She reluctantly took a few bites.

"..."

In the evening.

The sunny days of the past few days had suddenly turned pale. Rain began to fall in the twilight, accompanied by the sound of thunder.

Pei Luoyi slept soundly. When she woke up, she was no longer feeling full and comfortable. She only felt faint and sore all over.

It was raining outside the window, and the rain was patting at the glass. She sat on the bed and stared blankly at the marks of the heavy rain hitting the window. Then she got out of bed, casually took some clothes from the closet, and carried them into the bathroom.

Since she had a high fever, she simply took a shower, dried herself, and changed into clean clothes before returning to her room.

As soon as he stepped out of the bathroom, he saw the servant standing silently by the door. It seemed like he had been waiting for a while.

She pulled off the towel that was used to wipe her hair, walked over, and asked while looking at her, "What's the matter?"

"Miss Pei, Young Master Gong has asked you to come down for dinner."

Pei Luoyi paused. Together?

This came as a surprise to her. For breakfast and lunch, he would ask the servants to bring him to his room.

He even had two bodyguards stand guard at the door after the servant finished serving the porridge due to what happened in the morning.

It seemed like he really wanted to imprison her here.

"Miss Pei?"

Before she could reply for a long time, the servant thought that she was unwilling to eat with Gong Yan. For a moment, he was unable to make up his mind, and he was even more afraid that she would reject him.

As a servant, the first thing she needed to do was to learn how to read words. Thus, she knew how the person downstairs would react if the woman in front of her refused.

Pei Luoyi snapped out of her daze and hesitated for a moment before slowly nodding her head, "I understand, I'll dry my hair later."

The servant heaved a sigh of relief, turned around, and left the room.

Pei Luoyi stood there for a while before feeling a sense of helplessness rise up from the bottom of her feet. A sour smile appeared on her lips. It was unknown if she was laughing at her own helplessness or was laughing at fate for making fun of her.

Downstairs.

The servant who came down from upstairs went straight to the dining table and repeated what he had heard from Pei Luoyi.

"En." The man replied indifferently. He then raised his hand and took a sip of the red wine.

The servants looked at each other. They ordered: "Serve the dishes."

"Understood, Young Master Gong."

He could count the number of times he would visit this house, let alone eat here.

The dishes were served one after another, but the woman did not come downstairs.

Seeing the man's expression darken, one of the servants asked helplessly, "Young Master Gong, do you want me to go up and take a look?"

Before she finished speaking, a figure slowly walked down the stairs.

Since she didn't want to go out anyways, Pei Luoyi took out a white knitted nightgown from the wardrobe.

She walked down the stairs, walked to the seat opposite the man, and pulled out a chair.

Gong Yan raised his eyes and glanced at her, then put the goblet back on the table. His gaze fell on the woman's face, but he didn't move at all.

It looked much better than it had in the morning. There was at least some color on his white face, not as pale as a sheet. His half-dried hair was draped over his shoulders, and he looked much warmer than usual.

Perhaps it was her obedient look that pleased him. Although she didn't give him a single glance ever since she came down, that did not stop his previous gloomy mood from being swept away.

The servant brought up the last dish, and the two of them moved their chopsticks in silence. The atmosphere on the table was eerie amidst the thunder.
