As I stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window of my penthouse apartment, holding a glass of wine in my hand and staring absentmindedly outside, I suddenly heard footsteps coming from behind me but didn't bother turning around since I knew who it was.

I waited until the footsteps had come to a stop a few steps away from me before asking in a faint voice, "What happened?"
