C6 Chapter 6
The lady backing me stood and, after saying something to Adrian, she turned to me, signaled with her hands to follow her, then walked out.
I turned to follow her, not without turning back to look at Mr grumpy; I found him staring at me, I quickly turned around, but I could still feel his gaze burning in the back of my head.
I followed Max, she walked confidently to a desk I hadn't noticed was on the same floor as the CEO’s office.
“This will be your desk,” she said curtly.
I nodded, surprised I'd be working so close with the boss.
“You'll undergo a two-week training, so you can be well familiar with how things work here.” She continued.
“And, yes, the boss said to discuss your salary with you, it's $110,988 per annum.”
“Oh. My. God, I'm going to be rich, that is $9,248 per month.” Excitement coursed inside of me,thinking about the amount I was going to be earning in a month.
“Do you understand everything I've just said?” She asked sharply, raising a eyebrow.
“Yes,” I replied quickly.
“I wonder what the boss sees in you.” She muttered with a scoff rolling her eyes.
Ok, “what the actual heck is wrong with her!” What crawled up her pants? , I hadn't done anything to deserve her attitude; so why's she been hateful?.
“I guess I'm just lucky,” I said with a smile.
She rolled her eyes again, then continued explaining my duties.
My training at the conglomerate was not as bad as I thought, or maybe because I hadn't started working directly with the boss yet.
Max was really good at her job, she explained everything to me in detail, even if I wasn't a fast learner, I could easily understand her instructions.
I learned she was the secretary to one of the top managers at work, but currently acting as the assistant to the CEO till I get the hang of work. So when I start work fully I'm gonna be higher than her in position, which explains why she acted cold on our first meeting.
By the end of the week, I could create presentation from scratch. Max explained that my main tasks would include creating presentations to secure deals, if the boss approves them, drafting schedule and making appointments, which is the easiest part of the job, I hadn’t tried scheduling on my own yet, but I'd watched Max handled it for the boss several times during the week.
Most of the staff here, were friendly and most were always focused on their work not interacting with anyone.
I managed to be friends with a few friendly coworkers.
I've been in and out of the CEO’s office a few times to deliver documents for his signature, but I hadn't seen him at his desk since my first day.
The office “gossip queens,” as they called themselves, were obsessed with the boss. According to them, majority of the ladies at work has a massive crush on the boss. To be fair, who wouldn't have a crush on the boss, he's handsome, down-to-earth, but I stopped myself from thinking too much about it.
Everyday they fawned at his looks always looking for major things to praise about him, He's handsome and all, but I really didn't see anything in him that made him special.
“You liar, weren't you momentarily stunned when you first met him” my conscience said to me.
“Argh, such a betrayal” I retorted.
Whenever Max returns from the CEO’s office, the gossips queen swarmed her table asking ridiculous questions about what he wore each day, the smell of his colonge for the day.
“Oh my gosh, the boss and I are matching colors today, does that mean we are made for each other?” One of the ladies squealed.
“Oh I'm so jealous, I didn't get to wear the same color as the boss.” Another pouted sadly.
“How can they do this? I get tired of listening to this everyday.” I mumbled face palming myself.
Honestly if I was a mean person, I would tell them to get a life and focus on their work, because who-the-heck fantasizes on someone who doesn't notice them?. It's pathetic.
Don't they get tired of asking the same question every day?.
“Hush, tone it down, He's mine, You guys don't get to see him daily like I do!” Max snapped, shutting them.
“Now off to your table, I've got work to do for the boss.” She said smugly, ending their chatter.
“Finally” I mumbled with a sigh.
I get to be free anytime, Max is running errands or attending meetings with the CEO.

Today is the day I start work fully, I'm feeling enthusiastic about working on my own and also feeling a little nervous that I'm going to be seeing the boss more often now.
I took the elevator to the first floor,
As I arrived at my desk, I settled down, I was arranging my desk to my preference when I heard the phone ring beside me.
“Audrey here” I said to the unknown caller.
“To my office” I heard the command tone of the boss, followed by a beep.
Oh freaking hell, I didn't realize he was early to work, I scrambled to my feet and hurried to his office.
“Come in,” his deep voice called after I knocked.
“Good morning sir” I greeted as I entered.
“Morning,” He replied without looking up to address me. I took the advantage of checking him out. He was wearing a dark primal suit, his hair was neatly gelled to the back, and he still has that clean cut.
“What are my schedules for today? He asked abruptly.
Shit…..I cleared my throat slightly, “Sir… I haven't written out your schedule for today” I stuttered
He paused what he was doing and looked up, staring at me with a raised eyebrow.
“I'm sorry sir, I didn't realize you came to work early, I just got to work now, I'm so sorry sir” I continued bowing my head, afraid to make eye contact with him.
“I believe you grasped the training right and you know what to do on time” He said in a very cold tone.
“Ye..s—”
“I won't like this to repeat itself, understood?” He asked firmly.
“Understood,” I replied, nodding my head vigorously mortified.
I hurriedly scrambled from his sight and went to my desk.
“Oh that was scary” I exclaimed lightly. I wouldn't want to make a bad impression on my first day.
I switched on the computer, searched for the calendar and copied out his schedule to the tab.
“Sir, here is… your schedule.”
