C79 Reversal
Wang Jing harbored a deep-seated resentment towards Qin Buyi. She had recently discovered that Wang Qiang's father was one of the board directors at Huaxia's most esteemed institution. Ambitious for a promotion, Wang Jing had been ingratiating herself with Wang Qiang by any means necessary, hoping he would put in a good word for her.
Upon learning the details from a security guard, Wang Jing thought to herself, "Fortune is on my side. I was just fretting over how to get on Wang Qiang's good side."
With a slight frown and an air of official business, Wang Jing confronted Qin Buyi, "You've withdrawn from school, yet here you are on campus, assaulting a faculty member. Your behavior is utterly reprehensible."
Wang Qiang spat out bitterly, "This isn't over."
Curious about his intentions, Wang Jing probed, "Teacher Wang Qiang, what's your plan?"
"Call the cops. Let him rot in jail for a few years," Wang Qiang declared.
Wang Jing whispered a cautionary note, "Teacher Wang Qiang, a case like this won't result in a long sentence."
A sinister smile crossed Wang Qiang's face. "I'll have my father pull some strings. It'll be easy to lock him up for years."
He then turned to Qi Yun, "Figure out how close this old man is to him. If they're tight, he can join him behind bars."
"Old man, looks like you'll be spending your twilight years in a cell, haha."
Qin Buyi watched the scene unfold with the detached amusement of someone watching a farce.
Qi Yun, who had been an unwilling spectator, looked ready to explode with anger.
"What's the matter, old man? Can't handle it?" taunted Wang Qiang.
Qi Yun replied deliberately, "Young man, don't let your temper get the best of you."
Wang Qiang scoffed, "If you're not hot-headed, you're not young."
Off to the side, Hsu Ning held her phone, poised to dial the police.
Wang Qiang sneered, "Just wait until the cops get here. You'll be ready for a taste of prison food."
The commotion stirred up by Qin Buyi was growing, drawing an ever-increasing crowd of onlookers.
"Isn't that Teacher Wang and Teacher Hsu? And look, even Mentor Wang Jing is in attendance."
"The security guards are here too. What's going on?"
"That guy looks familiar... Oh, I remember now! Isn't he the renowned Qin Buyi, who was a prominent figure alongside Teacher Wang's generation?"
"That's him! I've heard about his impressive exploits. Never thought I'd actually meet him in person."
Amidst the crowd, Wang Qiang's demeanor grew increasingly triumphant.
After hanging up the phone, Hsu Ning dramatically embellished the details of the recent events.
Unaware of the full story, the students and other spectators began to blame Qin Buyi, casting disdainful glances at Qi Yun standing by his side.
Surrounded by the crowd, Qin Buyi's expression remained unchanged, his composure as still as a tranquil lake.
Qi Yun, however, struggled to contain the fury within, laughing bitterly, "I never would've guessed that a teacher from Huaxia's most esteemed institution could stoop so low."
Wang Qiang jabbed a finger at Qi Yun's nose and taunted, "Old fool, what are you blabbering about? You have no place speaking here."
Qi Yun fixed his gaze on Wang Qiang and retorted, "What did you just call me?"
Wang Qiang pointed at Qi Yun, his sneer widening, "Ha! Old fool, that's what I called you. Didn't you hear?"
Before Qi Yun could respond, the crowd parted, making way for a newcomer.
An elderly gentleman, clad in a suit and glasses and leaning on a cane, made his way through.
The old man surveyed the crowd and inquired, "What's all this commotion about? Why has everyone gathered here?"
Upon seeing the old man, Wang Qiang's arrogance vanished. He approached with a forced smile, saying, "Principal Zhang, what brings you here? There's no trouble, just a couple of outsiders who came in and attacked Hsu Ning and me..."
As Wang Qiang spun his exaggerated tale, Principal Zhang adjusted his glasses and turned his attention to Qin Buyi and Qi Yun.
"Isn't this young Qin? What brings you back?"
The moment Principal Zhang's eyes fell on Qi Yun, his face registered sheer astonishment.
He removed his glasses, massaged his tired eyes, and when he looked at Qi Yun once more, his body shook with an uncontrollable excitement.
Wang Jing noticed his distress and quickly approached to steady Principal Zhang, asking, "Principal, what's the matter?"
Brushing Wang Jing aside, Principal Zhang approached Qi Yun with a respectful tone, "Teacher, what brings you to our school? You didn't even notify me of your visit."
Qi Yun's face darkened as he replied, "Hmph, it's a good thing I came. Otherwise, I would have remained oblivious to the sorry state my own creation has fallen into."
Feeling a chill at Qi Yun's insinuation, Principal Zhang stammered, "Teacher, I'm not sure I follow."
Qi Yun gestured towards Wang Qiang and his group, "Perhaps you should inquire with those who've been acting so high and mighty."
Incensed, Principal Zhang turned to Wang Qiang and demanded, "Wang Qiang, recount the events that transpired just now."
Wang Qiang hadn't anticipated the old man he'd mocked to have such significant influence.
Confused, Wang Qiang stepped forward and recounted the incident with due respect.
Upon hearing the account, Principal Zhang was livid, "Wang Qiang, Hsu Ning, you are both suspended and will face a strict review and severe disciplinary action."
Wang Jing, sensing trouble, looked for an escape.
But Principal Zhang wasn't finished, "Instructor Wang Jing, you're subject to the same penalties. Moreover, the school will not allocate any research funds to you for the next three years."
The news hit Wang Jing like a bolt from the blue. For an instructor, losing research funding was tantamount to losing all prospects of career advancement.
Principal Zhang, with a cautious eye on Qi Yun, inquired, "Teacher, is this punishment sufficient?"
Qi Yun shook his head, his face a mix of genuine and feigned indignation.
His display was mostly for Qin Buyi's benefit, who had silently observed the whole scene.
Qi Yun believed that a flawless resolution to this incident would greatly reduce the likelihood of Qin Buyi turning him down later.
With a look of concern, Principal Zhang asked, "Teacher, what would you have us do?"
Qi Yun spoke with a calm detachment, "Remove these three individuals from the faculty roster of Huaxia's premier academic institution and ensure they are never employed again."
Upon hearing this verdict, Wang Qiang, Hsu Ning, and Wang Jing lost all traces of their earlier arrogance.
To be expelled from Huaxia's most prestigious school meant being blacklisted from academia entirely—no other institution would consider hiring them.
In one fell swoop, Qi Yun had effectively obliterated their career prospects.
Principal Zhang hadn't anticipated such resolute action from Qi Yun and cautiously reminded him, "Wang Qiang's father is a board member of our school. This could be problematic."
Qi Yun regarded Principal Zhang with an inscrutable look and countered, "Has my word lost its weight? If you're incapable of handling this, then resign. I'll find someone who can."
"What difference does it make if his father is on the board? Issue the directive—henceforth, Huaxia's top school will sever all ties with his family."
Confronted with Qi Yun's fiery wrath, Principal Zhang dared not object further and hastily agreed, "Teacher, I'll take care of it immediately."
Wang Qiang's head spun as he collapsed to the ground, overwhelmed by the sudden and drastic power shift.
With a single statement, he had been banished from Huaxia's elite institution, and now faced the severing of all ties between the school and his family.
The Wang family's influence was largely anchored by their connection to this top school. The severance of ties would likely spell financial ruin for them.
Should his father discover this debacle, Wang Qiang was certain he'd be disowned and stripped of his sonship forever.
