C11 The Examination of the Demon Suppressing Association

Sure enough, when Lee Jiaxiang came over with a worried expression, Ji Yeying glanced at him, and her own expression softened somewhat. Ji Jinfei, on the other hand, gave Lee a victory sign from the side.

Seeing the situation, Ji Yeying didn't ask further and turned to Situ Caiyu, saying, "Alright, let's leave it at that. We need to rest. We should reach the Demon Suppressing Association by tomorrow."

Situ Caiyu stood up with a smile and said, "Oh, by the way, I'm not worried about your apprentice getting in, but the other one... do you want me to put in a word for you?"

Ji Yeying shook her head immediately, saying, "No need." Seeing her determination, Situ Caiyu sighed and left the room, with Lee Jiaxiang quickly following him.

Ji Jinfei noticed Ji Yeying's mood and knew it was best not to provoke her. So, she yawned and went to bed. Ji Yeying, however, couldn't sleep. She thought about the time she met Situ Caiyu and many other things. Unfortunately, no matter how much she tried, one figure always appeared in her mind—she couldn't forget.

Ji Jinfei had no idea what her mentor was thinking and soon fell asleep. The next morning, they continued driving. Suddenly, Situ Caiyu patted Lee Jiaxiang and said, "By the way, did they tell you that to enter the Demon Suppressing Association, someone with your background needs to be tested?"

"Huh, no, they never mentioned that," Lee Jiaxiang replied, surprised, as Ji Yeying and Ji Jinfei hadn't brought it up.

Ji Yeying coldly interjected, "Lee won't be going in. It's just Jinfei and me. Lee can find a place to stay outside."

"That's a bit harsh," Situ Caiyu said with a smile. "You taught him the demon-suppressing techniques but won't let him see the Demon Suppressing Association? That's not fair. Besides, Lee has some talent. You don't want him to become a Demon Suppressing Master?"

Ji Yeying snorted and said, "All you think about is being a Demon Suppressing Master. Did you know Lee is a graduate student at the National Institute of Biological Research? He might become an excellent scholar. Why should he become a Demon Suppressing Master?"

Situ Caiyu was momentarily at a loss for words as he glanced at Lee Jiaxiang. He never expected Lee to be such a genius, and with a smile, he remarked, "That's really rare. I mean, you don't see many folks with such high academic achievements among Demon Suppressing Masters, except for that one guy."

"Who? Who?" Jinfei, though driving, was all ears and had been following the conversation closely. She immediately asked.

Situ Caiyu sighed and said, "The genius Demon Suppressing Master, Chung Jue. It's a pity he veered onto a dark path. I remember when the Demon Suppressing Association decided to expel him; he was researching how to use demon eggs to create creatures. That guy sure had guts."

"No way, he was that skilled?" Lee Jiaxiang asked. "Crossbreeding eggs like that is really tough. If he succeeded, it could be incredibly beneficial for humanity, but so far, it's been really challenging."

"Alright, my brilliant grad student," Yeying interrupted. "No need to flaunt your superior knowledge here. Your senior only graduated high school."

Jinfei chuckled and said, "Can't help it. My brain got knocked around by our mentor, so I couldn't study even if I wanted to." She suddenly felt a chill from behind, knowing that if she weren't driving, she might have gotten another headbutt.

Lee Jiaxiang smiled and said, "Actually, I'm quite interested in trying out the Demon Suppressing Association's test. Maybe I could explore a second path or something. Should I give it a shot?"

Jinfei glanced at him and sighed, "Men, always fearless creatures. Brother, that test isn't just any test. It could be deadly. You're so handsome; why risk it? Marrying me would be a better option."

Before Lee could respond, Situ Caiyu chimed in from the back, "If only your mentor were as straightforward as you."

"Are you crazy?" Yeying immediately swung a fist at Caiyu. However, due to the cramped space in the car, even though she hit him, it didn’t hurt much.

From the front seat, Jiaxiang took advantage of the commotion and said, "Hey, something feels off here." Jinfei nodded but stayed silent.

"Alright, alright, let's stop messing around," Caiyu said, catching Yeying's fist. "We should talk about Lee's situation. Lee, if you really plan to take the test, it's as risky as Jinfei said—it could be dangerous."

Jiaxiang paused and replied, "I wanted to give it a shot, but since you all think it's a bad idea, maybe I should reconsider. After all, I've only been studying demon suppression for a short time, unlike Jinfei, who's been at it for years."

Jinfei nodded in agreement and said, "That's the right call. I'm going in for a test myself to see where I stand, so it's best if you wait for us outside."

The car sped along, quickly reaching the outskirts of a city. The area was still quite undeveloped, but in the distance, a large complex could be seen. That was a branch of the Demon Suppressing Association. Due to its unique nature and frequent dealings with supernatural entities, most cities preferred not to have them in the downtown area.

Being in the suburbs worked out well since incidents involving supernatural creatures could occur nationwide. A single headquarters wouldn't suffice; by the time they responded, it might be too late. Therefore, the Demon Suppressing Association established a branch in every state, with larger states having two or three.

This particular branch was near the border. Outside the Association's gates, two guards stood watch. They were also demon suppressors, likely interns like Jinfei.

Jiaxiang drove into the city first, while Yeying looked at the Association's entrance and sighed, "It's been years since I've been here. If it weren't for needing something specific from this place, I wouldn't have come."

Situ Caiyu chuckled and said, "Yeah, I've got some business with Mr. Lei too. Let's get going. Jinfei, keep up the good work."

"Don't worry, future master-in-law," Ji Jinfei replied immediately.

"What did you call me? Future master-in-law? What's that supposed to mean?" Situ Caiyu asked, with Ji Yeying also looking at Ji Jinfei curiously.

"Well, if the master's wife is called 'master's wife,' then the master's husband should be 'master-in-law,' right? But since you're not officially there yet..." Ji Jinfei explained.

"Jinfei!" came an angry shout from behind, accompanied by a strong sense of menace. Ji Jinfei had anticipated this and quickly dodged as Ji Yeying's foot swung at her.

Turning back, Ji Jinfei said, "Master, sorry... ouch." A high heel flew through the air, landing squarely on Ji Jinfei's face. Ji Yeying had anticipated her dodge and had a backup plan ready—a flying shoe that hit its mark perfectly.

With a pained expression, Ji Jinfei headed toward the entrance of the Demon Suppressing Association. Situ Caiyu laughed heartily, taking a few steps forward to retrieve the shoe for Ji Yeying. He knelt down, grabbed her foot, and slipped the shoe back on. Ji Yeying blushed and instinctively tried to pull away but couldn't.

Situ Caiyu stood up and said, "Just like old times, always quick to use your feet. I've been on the receiving end quite a bit."

"That's because you always ask for it," Ji Yeying retorted, walking toward the entrance to avoid the awkwardness.

At the gate, the guards checked their IDs. Ji Jinfei was scheduled for a test, as there were procedures for trainee Demon Suppressing Masters. However, they treated Situ Caiyu and Ji Yeying with great respect, as their names often came up in conversations among other Demon Suppressing Masters.

Ji Jinfei was led into a room where an elderly man sat. She breathed a sigh of relief; if a handsome guy had shown up, she couldn't guarantee she wouldn't have embarrassed herself. Thankfully, it was an old man. Though he looked decent, he was too old to pique her interest.

"Show me what you've got," Ji Jinfei said with a cheeky grin, her voice loud and confident.

The old man glanced up at her, his tone icy. "You don't seem worried at all. Do you know who I am?"

Ji Jinfei shook her head. "No idea."

With a wave of his hand, the old man conjured a white dove, which then transformed into a massive eagle with wings spanning about 20 feet. Ji Jinfei observed and remarked, "A beast tamer, huh? You're Old Master Ou."

Old Master Ou nodded. "Not bad. You recognized me. Let's begin."

With that, the giant eagle took flight, swooping toward Ji Jinfei. She reached for her waist, drawing her weapon, which shimmered with cold light, aiming straight for the eagle's eyes.

Old Master Ou nodded again, gesturing for the eagle to return. It transformed back into a dove and vanished. Ji Jinfei was taken aback. "That's it? The test is over?"

Old Master Ou laughed heartily. "So, you're that young girl Yeying's disciple. Impressive. You spotted the eagle's weakness at a glance. You've passed."

Ji Jinfei stuck out her tongue playfully and headed toward a door behind the old man. As she stepped out, she saw Situ Caiyu and Ji Yeying waiting for her.

"Not bad, you were quick," Ji Yeying remarked.

"Of course! Do you know whose disciple I am?" Ji Jinfei said, puffing out her chest and laughing heartily, feeling quite proud of herself.
