C4 Lee Jiaxiang Was Tricked
Ji Yeying didn't pay attention to Lee Jiaxiang and instead examined the fly spiders, saying, "It's strange. All the fly spiders here have a single head, which suggests there might be double-headed ones ahead. That doesn't make sense. How could such low-level creatures have this kind of organization? Could it be...?"
Ji Jinfei caught on quickly and said, "Master, are you saying these creatures were birthed by a Demon Mother, which is why they're organized this way?"
Ji Yeying nodded. Lee Jiaxiang, looking completely bewildered, asked, "What are you two talking about? I can't follow."
Ji Jinfei rolled her eyes at him and said, "Handsome, there are some things you're better off not knowing. By the way, do you mind having more than one girlfriend?"
"Yes, I do mind," Lee Jiaxiang replied, immediately on guard and backing away from Ji Jinfei.
Ji Yeying glanced at the two of them and said, "Alright, enough fooling around. This level seems mostly cleared. Let's head down, but be careful. Oh, Lee, on the next level, we might encounter double-headed fly spiders. Each head has a small growth that you need to cut off; otherwise, they'll survive."
"Wait, aren't you supposed to protect me?" Lee Jiaxiang asked, looking a bit uneasy. After witnessing these creatures, he realized he was way out of his league.
Ji Yeying laughed, "Of course, of course. By the way, you've already spent a thousand, so I'll protect you one more time. For your own safety, you might want to consider renewing your protection fee."
Lee Jiaxiang felt utterly frustrated. These two women were quite the pair—one obsessed with money, the other a bit of a rogue. If it weren't illegal, he might have considered taking matters into his own hands with these two troublemakers.
However, sometimes you have to go along to get along. Lee Jiaxiang quickly thought on his feet and said, "Look, I've paid my dues, so my job isn't to fight alongside you, right? I'll take a break on this floor. Once I open the door, you can go in, and I'll close it behind you. That should work, right?"
Ji Yeying was taken aback, not expecting this move from him. She gave him a thumbs-up and said, "Alright, you're tough."
Lee Jiaxiang ignored them and sealed all the entrances and exits leading down, ensuring the creatures couldn't reach this level and would only roam below.
The three of them descended another floor. Lee Jiaxiang quickly entered the code for the second-floor door and hurriedly joined Ji Yeying, chuckling, "The door's open, folks. After you."
Ji Yeying glanced back at him, realizing he was serious about staying out of it. But there was no choice; they had already taken advantage of him earlier, so now they had to handle things themselves.
Ji Yeying pushed the door open, revealing a surprisingly quiet research area. It was larger than the floor above. Judging by the layout, the labs got bigger the further down they went, making it easy for a few of those creatures to hide here.
The silence was unnerving, which was the most troublesome part. Ji Yeying surveyed the space and said, "Jinfei, be careful. These creatures seem to have some smarts. They won't make a sound unless we get too close, and then they'll attack fast."
Jinfei nodded, "Got it, Master. But if they won't move, we can make them. I brought some Demon Repelling Powder."
Ji Yeying tapped her on the head, "You silly girl, think it through. This space is huge. How much powder would you need? Even if you have enough, it would take a fortune's worth of powder to cover this area. Aren't you worried about that?"
"Master, how can you still be thinking about money at a time like this?" Jinfei looked exasperated. Yeying's stinginess was well-known in the industry. Everyone knew her favorite thing was to tackle demons barehanded, saving a lot on expenses, though her fees were just as high as anyone else's.
Of course, that was her skill. Most demon suppressors needed to use demon-repelling powders or talismans, which were expensive to produce. So, while demon-suppressing fees were high, the actual earnings weren't much. But Yeying knew how to save every penny, and her skills were above average as a result.
Yeying said, "If we can't use it, we can't use it. Jinfei, check to the left. Are there two fire extinguishers?"
"Alright, Master, I get it. I'll handle it." Jinfei sighed, heading over to the extinguishers while Yeying stood guard. Jinfei expertly operated the equipment, spraying it thoroughly inside. Once both extinguishers were empty, she casually shut the door.
Lee Jiaxiang watched from outside, not offering to help. He asked, "What are you doing?"
Jinfei grinned, "Handsome, if you agree to be my boyfriend, I'll tell you."
"Then I won't ask," Lee replied, ignoring Jinfei's blatant flirtation.
Soon, the second-floor lab became lively with the sound of scuttling. Lee pressed his ear to the door, peering inside. Affected by the extinguisher's liquid, four fly spiders emerged, crawling around the floor.
Jinfei chuckled, "Works like a charm."
Yeying snorted, "Of course it works. I've used it countless times before. But be careful; there might be some hidden ones unaffected by this. Lee, come over and enter the password. This darn door locked itself again."
Lee Jiaxiang had no choice but to step forward and enter the password again. He quickly ran back, and as soon as the door opened, the four fly spiders leaped at them as if they'd discovered a new world.
"Attack from above and below," Ji Yeying shouted immediately.
She sprinted forward, stepping on Ji Jinfei's back, and leaped into the air, actually jumping higher than the fly spiders. Ji Jinfei, with the force of the step, rolled backward, startling Lee Jiaxiang, who stepped back, afraid she might fall on him again. That would be awkward.
As Ji Jinfei retreated, the fly spiders' venom landed where she had just been standing. But that was their only attack, because Ji Yeying, now airborne like a butterfly, soared over their heads. With a swift motion of her Pocket Universe Sword, she sliced off the small orbs on the fly spiders' heads. Landing gracefully, she flicked her hair back, exuding confidence.
Lee Jiaxiang watched from the side, immediately clapping and whistling. "Impressive, impressive."
"Hey, this high-level teamwork deserves some credit for me too, you know. Why's all the applause for the master?" Ji Jinfei protested.
Lee Jiaxiang glanced at her and said, "Well, think about it. She's like a butterfly flying through the air, taking off from the back of an armadillo. Who do you think I'm clapping for?"
"That's an interesting analogy... Wait, did you just call me an armadillo?" Ji Jinfei realized, waving her weapon playfully. "Say that again, and I'll make you a government official from ancient times."
"Government official from ancient times? What does that mean?" Lee Jiaxiang was completely puzzled.
Ji Jinfei chuckled, and Lee Jiaxiang, noticing her mischievous grin, felt uneasy. "What are you planning?" he asked nervously.
"I'll make you a eunuch," Jinfei said fiercely.
"Whoa, are you some kind of ancient civil servant?" Lee Jiaxiang exclaimed, quickly covering himself and darting behind Yeying for protection, peeking out at Jinfei.
Yeying sighed and said, "Jinfei, instead of wasting your energy, why don't you check if there are any fly spiders left? We need to finish up and head down."
Jinfei shot Lee a menacing glare before heading into the lab. Lee finally breathed a sigh of relief, patting his chest. "That was close! I mean, how did you end up with such a fierce and wild apprentice?" he asked Yeying.
Ignoring his question, Yeying replied, "I just saved you from Jinfei, and now I'm out two thousand bucks. If we run into anything else, you're on your own."
"What? That counts? She's not even a demon!" Lee said, incredulous.
Yeying gave him a cold look. "Isn't she scarier than any demon?"
"That's highway robbery! You're just making things up," Lee argued.
"Oh, is that so? Jinfei, Lee just said you're—" Yeying turned and called into the lab.
Jinfei, having just taken down a two-headed fly spider, looked back to see Lee covering Yeying's mouth. She glanced at them and asked, "What did he say?" Her face still bore a fierce expression.
Yeying pulled Lee's hand away and said, "He said you're really well-endowed."
"Smart guy," Jinfei said, satisfied, and continued her search.
Lee exhaled in relief. "Alright, alright, two thousand it is."
Yeying laughed, "Who said that? I just saved you again, so now you owe me another thousand."
"You..." Lee Jiaxiang realized he had reached the point of no return.
