C1 Good Person
After Yiting stepped out of the car, she lingered outside the hotel for a long time, hesitant to go in. The thought of facing those people made her uneasy. Finally, she took a deep breath and glanced up at the starless night sky. The city was bustling, but its neon lights had long overshadowed the natural beauty of the night.
"Mrs. Huo!"
"Mrs. Huo is here, please come in!"
"Mrs. Huo, your dress is lovely!"
As Yiting slowly entered the banquet hall, several society ladies gathered around her. She carried herself with grace, her smile subtle yet calculated to perfection.
"Mrs. Liu, you're here too! Mrs. Qin, let's go in together. Mrs. Wang, your necklace is truly stunning."
Yiting remembered everyone in this circle, despite her difficulty with faces. For his sake, she made an effort to remember them all, even their preferences.
Mrs. Liu had a fondness for pastries from Full Blessing's. To strike up a conversation with her, Yiting once sampled every pastry from the shop in a day, then spent an entire day and night in the kitchen perfecting each recipe, making them even more delicious. Although she was skilled in cooking, it had been a while since she last indulged in such endeavors. Eventually, she "accidentally" met Mrs. Liu and was invited to her home, where she showcased her culinary skills and won her over completely. This was all because Mrs. Liu's husband was in charge of bank loans, and at that time, they needed financial assistance.
Mrs. Qin, on the other hand, was an art collector, particularly fond of a painting owned by an expatriate in France. To win her favor, Yiting took time off to travel to France, where she found the expatriate. He explained that his grandmother was unwilling to sell the painting, so Yiting sought out the elderly woman. The grandmother was gentle but firm in her refusal. Yiting spent three months by her side, learning that the painting held sentimental value as it reminded her of her late husband.
To persuade the elderly lady, she spent three months accompanying her to all the places she and her late husband had visited, eventually exchanging for the painting. Mrs. Qin grew fond of her because of this. Her actions were driven by the fact that Mrs. Qin's husband was the city council chairman, and every time the person she cared about wanted to buy land, it had to go through him.
As for getting close to Mrs. Wang, it was because her family had connections in the police department, and the woman he cared about was detained there. She did her best to make things a bit easier for that woman, just to see him smile. She even started to let go of the "accident" that happened to her brother.
Yet, in the end, she gained nothing.
"Mrs. Huo, when will you come over to my house again? I miss your pastries," Mrs. Liu said with an expectant look on her well-maintained face.
Yiting glanced around the venue and noticed that only the wives were present, meaning the men, like Huo Jun, would arrive later. Her gaze was a bit distant, and when she came back to her senses, the four of them were already seated on the lounge sofa.
Holding Mrs. Liu's hand, Yiting smiled and said, "My husband has been so busy lately, and I've been helping him out."
Hearing this, Mrs. Liu's eyes dimmed slightly. Yiting continued, "But I'm planning to make some pastries for him tomorrow. How about I send some over to you as well?"
Mrs. Liu immediately brightened up, "That sounds wonderful! You should make extra; my two boys love your pastries so much they won't even eat the ones from Full Blessing's."
Yiting covered her mouth with a light laugh, "Next time I visit, I'll ask them to be my sons. Do you think they'd agree?"
Mrs. Liu's eyes sparkled, "That's a great idea! You can make them pastries every day, and I'll be their nanny. Just make sure to reward me with some of those pastries!"
"Hahaha!"
After hearing Mrs. Liu's words, everyone burst into laughter. Mrs. Wang was the first to stop, then looked at Yiting with a sympathetic gaze. "Yiting, is Young Master Huo treating you well?"
As soon as Mrs. Wang said this, everyone paused, and the room fell into an almost uncomfortable silence. Mrs. Wang was the oldest among them, already forty, while Mrs. Qin and Mrs. Liu were in their thirties. Yiting had just celebrated her twenty-fifth birthday, and on that day...
Hearing the question, Yiting felt a sting in her eyes, almost bringing her to tears. She quickly lowered her head, and when she looked up again, she saw three concerned faces.
Once, she had approached them with an agenda. They were all smart women—didn't they know? No! They all knew, yet at this moment, they chose to comfort her, to care about her well-being.
Indeed, there are more good people in this world than bad.
